Yeah, I definitely think he's still coming, but we're not likely to get an announcement in a bit. Let's hope this thread lasts until Ridley gets announced/the game is announced and Ridley is confirmed playable.
We now know of two potential stage bosses, Yellow Devil and Metal Face. BOTH of them are on both versions. Metroid and DK don't have a new handheld stage yet, but are most likely going to get one, considering the fact that Mother and F-Zero get new stages. Why hasn't the Metroid stage been shown yet? Probably because it ISN'T Pyrosphere, which would mean Ridley isn't a stage boss in both versions. He's playable.
I think I've figured out how the roster listing will work, too. We've got five new characters; it will just increase by one more wide when more characters are unlocked, which fits perfectly. Metroid gets pushed down one more line, and so does Kirby. The final row won't be filled out.
As for the Metal Face tease... its not the same situation as Ridley at all. In fact, that only hints more at Ridley being playable, especially because they announced Gaur Plains is Shulk's stage on both versions.
So I was thinking, Ridley still has a shot at a newcomer trailer of he's in, right? The one yesterday was ok and all but if it was the last it was rather short. Not really a trailer I'd consider grand sendoff to release date. It also didn't show any new villains. Seems like he very likely could get a trailer still, if he's in and going to be revealed before release that is.
I think a Big 3 trailer is highly likely at this point. For the most hype, show off the most requested characters in one trailer as the final trailer before release.
Alright. This is something I've wondered about myself and have debated with others for quite some time now, yet I haven't been able to attain any satisfactory answers to that end.
How exactly does the fanbase believe Ridley will play? As in, how will his size and structure work in the game, what weapons and abilities will he use, etc. etc.?
I've heard a lot of arguments from both sides in this case. I reject the argument that he's "too big", purely because I think it's trivial and banal - as Sakurai himself said, if he wants Ridley to be in the game, he will be in the game, all difficulties and uncertainties therein addressed as relevant and appropriate. From a somewhat more cogent perspective, there's the argument that he is too awkwardly shaped and physically inappropriate for a game such as Smash that requires a lot of movement and a great deal of reflexes. I'm willing to concede that the argument, while not infallible, holds water - still, I am sure that this has been duly noted and rebutted by the fans.
Now, we've all heard the sardonic commentary: "He'll just be a Charizard clone with a purple palette", "He just flies around and breathes fire", and so on and so forth. I'm not a Ridley supporter nor a Ridley detractor. I'm an impartial observer that's seeking empirical analyses as to why you think Ridley ought to be in the game and how such technical and mechanical issues could potentially be addressed.
tl;dr - How would you guys make and design Ridley?
For Ridley, I think the ideal way he'd work is as a mostly flight-based character. Ridley would be an aerial character and a grappler. He has several attacks that grab opponents and send them flying. He can stay in the air longer than any other character (this is his unique mechanic), and has fast specials that attack quickly, but slow movement speed.
On the ground, Ridley is at his worst. His best mechanics on the ground is his grabs. On the ground, Ridley is hunched over on all fours, in the air he's not, so he looks bigger (but he's still not really all that big).
