There are plenty of reasons to think the leak is fake, but you never know really. What is quite well known is that this isn't the place to discuss the leak, and this kind of speculation spilling across all discussions about the game is exactly what the leaker wanted. The fact that the leak is not consistent from the story right down to what is shown though should be enough to tell people it's fake, but hey.

If the leak is fake all Sakurai has to do is reveal one of the returning players with a render different from the one shown, and boom, the leak is dead. He can also show a pic of the day with any of the characters noted not there, or a newcomer not there. He's the one holding the ammunition here, and he doesn't even need to approach it directly.

He threw our speculation back in our faces with the Robin/Lucina/Captain Falcon trailer, and this may be the time to do it again.

That leak might be legit... But it's missing some obvious newcomers, G&W's hand is clipping over Wario, Wario is missing a pupil, Duck Hunt looks a little fake, some of the stages look like they were just clipped from past Smashes and Smash U, has some other flaws, and Dr. Mario returning instead of Mewtwo? Really ? If they tried a bit harder then I might have believed it.

I thought it was fake because of Krystals voice actor being in the game, yet she was nowhere to be found and I thought R.O.B. was Rob64 and that didnt make any sense. My only plight against this being real is my disappointment.

Well, I point out this, and it gets ignored. Why? Probably because it's right.

Ness' render is wrong, as is Mr Game & Watch's. The character select screen is wrong and one is just pasted over one of the E3 screens. The leak is pretty blatantly fake, a damn good fake that would have taken some serious time and effort, but still fake, not something we should really worry about unless they come up with a video or something demonstrating it a bit better.

You never know, it might be real, but there are so many things that the details just seem wrong with that I can't see it being real.

Hopefully this forces Sakurai's hand in showing us something new today to kill the leak's credibility.

I thought Krystal was playable due to her voice being in but in fact it was just a cameo like you said. Thats one of the reasons I thought the real roster for brawl was fake.

That does make me have to ask something. When PotDs were new, did Sakurai ever say if he picks the picture he is going to reveal, during the same day, or does he plan them out throughout the week, or maybe even further?

Either way, 4 weeks guys, then all will be revealed.

Like it's not just the disappointment of not seeing Ridley and King K. Rool, it's that...I think I've seen some of the renders before.

This is scary good....but I hope to god it's fake...Mewtwo fans, Ridley fans and King K Rool fans would basically all be getting the big "F-BOMB" if this was real....
No...I can't believe Sakurai would play it out like this....especially since Dr. Mario is in there and NOT MEWTWO. Out of all the characters in Melee, Mewtwo deserves to return the most.

dr mario returned over mewtwo becasue dr mario was very fast to do , mewto wasnt replaced by dr mario, was probably replaced by greninja, bowser jr, dog, or whatever other character would take more develpment time.

I'm sure they were fanmade. People nowadays can be capable of doing models of that caliber.

With such a blatant contradiction alongside several other inconstancies, I see no reason to devote any further time and energy into this "leak."

You know, it's really sad that someone can make a decent looking fake like this with several flaws in it, and as soon as people see it, they instantly assume it's the real deal. It's clear that we have learned nothing from dealing with similar leaks in the past.

You people are going to look like fools in a few weeks. I have posts flaming me. But keep in mind, I have seen legitimate leaks in the past with Melee and Brawl, and this right here is a legitimate leak.

In the end, people let their pride and fanboyism go before logic.

Leaks happened with Melee and Brawl. People denied them as well. I know, I was there.

I'm not willing to throw this leak out yet, but the amount of inconsistencies (and stuff going for it too) is just staggering. Hopefully it will all be sorted out tomorrow and that we can finally get back to Ridleyology.

This is the thing I don't understand about these leaks. You can tell they're fake, there are too many wrong details, rough edges and oddities. But what I don't get is why they don't do a fake that includes Ridley, K Rool and Mewtwo, because in doing so you're get 3 huge sub groups of the community trying to defend it, despite the usual obvious issues. Tactically you'd get the hype train going from them, and the shear number of "I knew it", "yes", "IT MUST BE REAL CAUSE RIDLEY!", etc. kind of comments would drown out the obvious issues. By leaving them out you've instead got these 3 communities looking for the problems.

To be completely honest if I were to make one of these leaks I'd have those controversial "no way" characters like Duck Hunt Dog in, chuck in one of the koopalings, have Dr Mario and Dark Pit, include Ridley, K Rool and Mewtwo, leave out Ness instead having Lucas and, most importantly, leave out Shulk.

You'd get the heavy hitters on your side, but leave out one that have assumed that they're chosen character is in for so long that it doesn't quite have those same kind of speculation heavy hitters it seems, it would build the controversy factor for people to go "NO WAY MASHUSA!!!" and ultimately with the Ridley-K Rool-Mewtwo alliance in full force, would be drowned out by wrong, but loud speculation.

Of course, we'd realise it's fake quickly enough, but the speculation boom would almost certainly last longer before that time.

The real leaks are generally very minimalist and have been written only (sans the official Nintendo advertisement that leaked Lucario, Jigglypuff, and Ness).

These ones are super complex and have so many oddities that make no sense.

It's easier to decipher if fake, remember the Chorus Men leak of yesteryear, A.K.A April? That looked super convincing but was deemed fake due to faulty movement and that was just a 2D model. Unless this leaker spent so much time to made a model in full 3D move well and look good doing so, it would be easily deemed fake.

people scrounged around to find every possible inconsistency every minor pixel out of place that even the greatest photoshopper in the world wouldn't be able to sustain it shows just how dedicated we can be... for fake characters... in a videogame... yay

Well I as scared, relieved, scared again, and then relieved again. Anyway, how do you guys feel about Ridley's new mechanic? I want a hover mechanic, but I'd love to see something creative. We're any of us really expecting Robin's mechanic (and it was even in plain sight)? I think Sakurai would do something so unexpected, but still true to the character.

I was both impressed by the quality of Luigi's battle, and the lines in the video were EXACTLY perfect, as opposed to this 'leak'. The sounds (Except Fox, I preferred the 'WeyaaAAH!' from the original 64 and the Brawl Fox"Fire!" actors) were great, and the Trainer Remix sounds really neat, much more than what we heard from Greninja's trailer.

Hopefully there's something good coming soon, that can once and for all disprove this 'leak'. It's getting many people worried. So more of a reason to see something new soon.
