I take it back, there are multiple visible spikes in the trailer, Ridley's tail only has one spike.

I'm not only referring to wing-span, if you take the perspective into account then you will notice that the shadow is far bigger than Bowser either way.

EDIT: ^ After reviewing the above footage, I now see that the final destination version of Pyrosphere may be smaller, so does Ridley's shadow appear on a larger or smaller stage? Difficult to tell.
Yes, you are right, Ridley's general size is bigger than Bowser even without the wingspan.

Ridley's largest size:

Ridley's smallest size:

Size comparison with Bigley and Smalley:

What you're forgetting is that THIS is what Ridley's pose would look like on the ground. When he is crouched over, Ridley is about the same size as Bowser. Even "Roidley" is much lankier than Bowser, so when crouched over, he's about the same size. When his legs are hanging down, he looks bigger, but he's still not that much bigger than Bowser overall. And nothing has stated we can't have a slightly larger character than normal, anyway.

Sakurai is breaking a lot of "rules" of Smash in this game with newcomers, such as Robin having Smash Attacks in the air. Ridley is STILL extremely small for a boss. However, for a slightly larger playable character, he's just fine.

As much as I want it to be Ridley, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be mewtwo. I doubt they'll reveal a newcomer at comicon, but it would have to be a special case for a veteran, so either Ganondorf with a new moveset, or mewtwo. I'm betting on mewtwo.
I as Nintendo fanboy will say this right now, Nintendo isn't good in advertising, unless it's Smash, so we may get something really nice, if Ghirahim was confirmed, the 4 trophies can't be regarded as a mere theory

I still don't believe that Robin can use smash-attacks mid-air. It's probably more like a different aerial because he uses that sword, but by no means a smash. Megaman and Mii Gunner are better examples of breaking smash "rules", focusing heavily on projectiles.
EDIT: I really hope Ridley's wings won't be too obtrusive during gameplay. I don't care about having a very large character, but the wings could very easily get in the way.

http://i.imgur.com/sZnRWJE.jpg Have a look at the Megaman/Ridley shadow comparison.

Don't be fooled by the wings like so many non-believers do.

He appears on the regular stage, this is 100% fact that we know.

I think you just confirmed that the 'Ridley for SSB4' fandom is in fact a Religion.
No. I am a roleplayer, this is the way I speak/type.
You really don't need to provoke the fanbase by being snappy to get attention.

Also I just noticed I wrote "followed" instead of "fooled".. I blame it on the fact that I just woke up.

Ridley must be really high up then, if you compare both shadows. Probably around the upper screen threshold, or slightly above that too (not the KO line).

Ridley would be up around the same level as the upper platforms. Which explains the only reason we actually get a hint of his tail. If we want it to make sense to compare his current body size to the length of his tail, any further up makes his tail ridicolously long.

Eh, that's true too. Fair enough.
EDIT: 100 posts! Time to celebrate this pointless milestone of time-wasting!

It just seems strange that Chrom gets a full confirmation from Nintendo that he isn't playable, and yet we're still in the dark for Ridley. Detractors will often use the excuse "Ridley wasn't finished for the SSB Direct/E3 2014", but the solution to that is that even if that was the case (which it shouldn't be because the game has been in development for two years now), Sakurai could and should have posted a PotD of a still screenshot of Ridley. It's not that difficult: post a picture, people get sad, eventually they'll get over it after a few months. Sakurai has already stated numerous times that everything is a work in process, so we know things will still be in development and likely need changes/improvement. He didn't post a PotD of Ridley after that SSB Direct. He didn't post a PotD of Ridley between that Direct and E3 2014. He didn't post a PotD between E3 2014 and the video reveal of Robin, Lucina, and Captain Falcon.

So the question is: Why has Sakurai kept information in regards to Ridley for so long, regardless of role? People are still left wondering what he does in the game. If he's a stage boss hazard, how does he attack? Why didn't he attack in the entire clip in the SSB Direct, when in the Metroid games he is constantly attacking and doesn't have his guard down? Why was he so slow, when he's known to be fast? If Nintendo wanted to defuse the situation for Chrom, why didn't they outright confirm Ridley's role around the SSB Direct or within that month? People would probably say "Ridley's was obvious, so they wouldn't need to", but Chrom's was obvious as well, and they STILL confirmed that Chrom was not playable. Not to mention that Ridley's "dis-confirmation" has been different to actual dis-confirmed characters. Why has Sakurai done a quick and straight to the point dis-confirmation for all of those characters, then changed tactics for a "dis-confirmation" for Ridley, and then gone back to the quick and straight to the point tactic with Chrom?

Sakurai, you've said before that you didn't like to trick people and getting their hopes up with characters, that's probably why you've outright dis-confirmed characters through a quick and straight to the point method. If Ridley is only just a stage boss character, you've basically done what you said you didn't like to do. Getting us to continue holding hope and then destroying it just before release, or even after release, is a horrible and a sadistic thing to do. If Ridley's playable, and you want to keep the announcement until the right moment, or want to keep Ridley's playable status hidden until after release, then you are an evil genius.

That's why its only obvious Ridley is playable, and I've been confident in this for a long time.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's obvious as such, but it's pretty darn suspicious.

I mean why do the other characters have one rule and one method, and Ridley has another?

If Sakurai wanted to be clear about Ridley, he should have just gone straight to the point about his role, not throw subtle/tease things.

Teasing something for a non-playable role is rather counter-productive, especially in a long period of time.

Other non-playable characters, especially Chrom, didn't get the same treatment.

Sure Yellow Devil was teased at E3 2013, but it wasn't as if:

a) People expected it in the game.

b) People wanted it playable.

c) It wasn't unmentioned for months after its reveal.

Plus it wasn't absent from the demos in E3 2014, regardless of whether it was completed or unfinished.

The only character that has even been close to having so much teasing is Palutena, and she's playable. It just seems odd...

There's only three scenarios

A. Ridley is in and they're milking the anticipation as much as possible.
B. Ridley isn't in and they're milking the anticipation before people buy the game and discover he's just a boss (**** move).
C. No one on the team has studied human psychology and have no idea of the effect that the sparse Ridley information has on people (regardless of if he's playable or not).

A good rule of thumb is "never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity" so the options are

A. Sakurai is cool
B. Sakurai is cruel
C. Sakurai is clueless

Which one are you going for?

Sakurai is clearly not Clueless, and he doesnt strike me as the cruel guy. So.. I'd go with A.

Sakurai knows what the fans want. Only a handful of people wanted three very similar characters from the FE franchise. He knew DK fans wanted the Kremlings back. He did his research and went into extreme detail getting down the character's movesets and knows exactly how the fans feel. A, Sakurai is cool. He's not cruel, even if he sometimes is a bit mean with his deconfirmations he's not cruel enough to drag them on and on, especially when its not fully clear.

Well, let's be honest. B is pretty much impossible, because Sakurai himself said he doesn't want to pull those kind of things, and I don't expect him to deviate from that anytime soon. C is...more likely if you put it in a different way, as in Sakurai is hyping Ridley as a boss. Which still is all kinds of unlikely.

The only people Sakurai has hyped is the Ridley fanbase, because as a fanbase of a character we desperately search for clues and signs in the clouds (literalley) in order to find even a smidge of footing to support our favourite character. This is why everyone else took the message at face value, because they didn't care enough to look deeper into it. It's almost as if this was done on purpose, and if it was done on purpose then Sakurai, I bestow upon you the title of Magnificent Man. He hypes up the right people, yet makes sure the rest will be surprised at the character reveal. It's perfect!
EDIT: changed the word to be less filtered
sorry about that

I went and looked at footage of Ridley's boss appearances in SSE, to check if he had any idle animations, and the only time he does is when he's at the side of the stage (which appears to be the game giving the player a opening to attack), but apart from that he always seems to be attacking, even after the player dies. Like you were saying the fact that Ridley doesn't attack or at least show like he's attacking based on the shadow doesn't add up, even if you claimed him being idle was a opening for the player(s) to get a attack in, the why doesn't he attack right after? And the yellow devil seems to be always active.

The only possible theory I can come up with about Ridley being idle now (since I think I debunked my other theories), is that Ridley isn't the main hazard, he actually summons space Pirates to aid him, and killing him causes the space pirates to temporarily ally with you, but even if that did make sense, there's no proof generic space pirates are even in this game. (Unless you count the lack of them in Smash Run).

The only real logical explanation is that Ridley's playable. I'll actually be participating in a video this week to discuss the Ridley dilemma on Youtube, I'll post it once its up.

The only time Sakurai did anything cruel was anything that has to do with Chrom I think. Oh! I forgot that he is delaying Ridley's reveal so the toobigots get to attack us longer! Nothing is more cruel than that!
Chrom's disconfirmation was a bit mean, but it wasn't cruel; he disconfirmed Chrom immediately, he didn't draw it out for months on end. Besides, he showed how badass Chrom is in Robin's Final Smash. Granted, they could've done it a bit better, by having Robin come back to help Chrom back up and then show the Final Smash... the whole "I guess I'll get my chance... some other time..." was admittedly a bit mean to Chrom fans...

Granted, I think he will get his chance some other time. In SMT x Fire Emblem. ^^

Hopefully that many responses leads to Sakurai realizing that so many people want Ridley in.

If he doesn't realize how many people want Ridley by now, its too late. He'd have to have been well aware a long time ago. And I'm sure he was anyway. :p

When I say Chrom say that for the first time, I couldn't help myself do anything but do this:

But back to Ridley, the worst part of him not yet being confirmed is the fact the toobigots think that he won't be confirmed for another few eterneties, so IF Ridley isn't revealed before release, it will be even more painful

The Chrom thing wasn't cruel or anything. In fact, the disappointment was only created because the Gematsu leak brought promises. Not Sakurai's fault.

I can't see Ridley not getting a trailer before release. With all the teasing of him being a boss and with pretty much everyone talking about him, I don't see why they wouldn't take advantage of this. If Ridley isn't revealed before release, I'll be really surprised.

Complete agreement here. CoroCoro discussing how all the stages and characters announced already next month basically solidifies my belief that Ridley will be announced before the 10th of August.

They only said they'd do what was revealed before the issue is printed.

I found this video, which could be applied to Ridley's chances in Smash

I don't know if I'd call it cruel as much as "don't get ahead of yourself". So many people were declaring that Chrom was in, and getting verbally nasty when told otherwise.

Again, its not about Ridley, its about Pyrosphere. Pyrosphere is the issue; they'll have to talk about that, but if they aren't told any information about it, what will they say? "We weren't told what happens in Pyrosphere?!" Honestly, if that happens Ridley is basically guaranteed, but regardless, I think Ridley will be announced before that point.

It was around the time we converted to a lounge theme. I was part of this reddit group called the MLPLounge, or Plounge for short, and we had this running gag of a tampered, toxic water source that would cause a range of effects. I realized that Space Pirate Lounge was just one letter away from Plounge, and decided that what the Ridley thread really needed to lighten the mood was a stupid, silly, inside joke to sorta bring us closer, using something besides our support of Ridley.

Hence, don't drink the water. It can kill you, make you lose all sense of scale, ship totally random things, or worse.

There's something I need to point out guys. Assuming Ridley is not playable (please just stay with me for a moment), than I think it is still possible for him to move as slowly as he did in the direct because considering this game is running at 1080p, 60 FPS, with up to 4 players, Ridley constantly attacking could possibly cause some lag I would think. Plus, it should also be possible to play Pyrosphere online in For Friends so a dummied-down Ridley would probably be the only way to not make to much lag. Finally, if you're offline than you can also add in a 5th character as an amiibo. I honestly don't think the Wii U could handle all this at once.

So basically, what I'm trying to say is that the I believe that if Ridley is a boss than his movements seem reasonable.

While that is true, Chrom has a big fanbase aswell, and Sakurai is aware of that
He only had a big fanbase probably because people expected him since he was the main character in Awakening so therefore people just got hyped from the start. He was aware of that, but he didn't want another sword user like Marth. Like he said Lucina was lucky she got in the game. In Japan I heard that the next popular was Robin followed up by Tharja and Lucina.
