from a source i cant reveal...the reason brawl was delayed

simply put, Nintendo of America made this decision, not Sakurai. brawls pre-order numbers weren't looking good, and Nintendo of America (NOA) wanted more time to get together the advertisements, commercials, magazine ads, and promotions to drive stronger first week sales. Another factor in the placement of the American delay is to give this part of the year stronger profit. My source had no details on this matter. The Japanese numbers are fine and the week delay is for a shortage of copies made. The game is finished in Japan in in full. NOA is still working on localization and the way brawl communicates with American routers. So in short, we simply will have to wait another extra month for Brawl , unless u want it half English/ half Japanese.

Need to advertise for? WTF? what the hell is the dojo's weekly blog there for? they had plenty of time to promote! Get it together Nintendo, the only reason Smash isnt raking in cash like say a **** casual game is because its got an underground fanbase. I mean hell, i'm pretty sure everyone here on the boards has it preordered. and Melee had like one commercial, but it was pretty lame.

well NOA realized that it was hard to determine just how many ppl see the website...since so many ppl visit the site daily it receives multiple hits from the same person. NOA wants to be sure everyone is aware of Brawl, and is taking new approaches of advertising to get to the consumer base thats not tech savvy....the parent purchasing for the child.

and yes melee sells...but it was a large number over a large period of time.

NOA wants large numbers in a very short amount of time.

one quote mentioned was " If Halo 3 can do it, so can Smash3"

Yea but look at Halo3. Months before the game came out they even had plasitc Slurpie cups from 7eleven. They hyped that game TONS more than Nintendo has done for Brawl and they are seeing the result in their preorders.

If they just give us like 4 commercials it WONT be enough though. They better make this delay worthwhile and at least hype the game with a convention like Japan's WHobby or at least bilboards(or something). But of course Nintendo cares a slight bit less about sales in places outside of Japan so we'll inevitably just get a commercial or two from this delay and have to be happy with it.

NOA did no press whatsoever for Mario Galaxy. Every gaming site is excited about Brawl
Look at www.gamestats.com
Brawl is the most popular game and have been for months.

Nintendo will release a game when it's ready, press or not.

You don't need someone to tell you this. It's an intelligent conjecture when it comes to the video game market and economics :)

I'd believe that actually. I don't really believe that you have sources but I could see NOA being like oh yeah we should probably hype this game.

I blame the writers strike and that they're having a hard time coming up with lines for the american VAs.

Ok so thats a joke.

Someone should really grill Nintendo about this. I somehow don't believe that SSBB doesn't have "enough" preorders, when we've been hearing things like there are more total preorders than total number of wiis sold.

When the rumors first appeared, that's pretty much what I assumed it would be about - localization. Though I never considered anything about our American routers not working correctly or whatever. What I don't understand is, they could still release the game on time, and still advertise the hell out of it WHILE IT'S ALREADY OUT (wasn't that their rationale with the Wii advertising? Didn't they say that all of the hardcore nerds would know about it without the advertising anyway, and hence get it on release, but the parents and mainstream gamers would see the commercial and go straight to the store to pick it up, hence why commercials began after the release?). That way we still get our game on time, and they can still drive up sales even more through advertising. Of course, I guess if they want all of the sales to occur in March, that's not an option. In short: Blargh.

And the next time its delayed will be because they want to fix the bugs of the stuff they are doing now.. and it will be an ongoing circle.

this is bs to the max.

in a box of fading memories, and everlasting knowl
g4tv mentioned that pikman and captain olimar was confirmed in a commercial.
Gamestop/ebgames and walmart already have stacks of pre-reviews.
ign has a 27 page article about it that is updated daily, like the dojo.
Gamefaqs... well there are the 888888888 "prophets" telling everyone this and that.

the real gamers either already know about brawl, or are deaf and blind. It seems like the VERY "casual" gamers may not know yet, but a few commercials could easily fix that.

Eh... I think it's unlikely something like that. As stated already this sounds like a localization issue more then an marketing ploy, which really won't work well at this point.

I agree that it's about advertising. A strong marketing campaign could do wonders for the game, even though it already has as strong internet fan base. But if Nintendo wants to garner high numbers in a short amount of time, they're going to have to start putting the name out there. SSBB is just as much a household name as Halo, but Nintendo needs to let the masses know (and not just the internet savvy crowd), that the next Smash game is near.

I'm sure there are localization issues as well, but I have to agree that it's just as much marketing reasons.

I disagree. It's not about hype, marketing, or finances. It's about localization.

It's more than having English menus for "Stock" "Time" "Item Switch" and "Donkey Kong"

Think about it:
-Hundreds of trophy names and long trophy descriptions, sticker names, event match descriptions, music track names, etc. of text.
-Dozens, perhaps >100 pokéball pokémon and assist trophies, most of which have different names in Japanese and English, need a voice actor sample in English in addition to Japanese. Probably Subspace voices as well. Characters need different actors so the victory speech and taunts are in the right language.

If it were for reasons other than localization, Japan's Brawl would have been delayed a week and USA's Brawl would have been delayed a week. It's not about the hype, there's Brawl hype everywhere ALREADY. MP3 wasn't very hyped, Galaxy wasn't very hyped, and they still sold incredibly well.

Europe needs all that text put into German, Spanish, Italian, French. How many people can translate trophy descriptions from Japanese to Italian? It will take time, folks.

I agree that that might be true for the PAL release. But American? They only need English. And check it out, all the screens we've seen have english text.

the least they can do is release a freakin demo! my god japan has had jump festa and whobby, and they get to play demos! why can't we have the same? its not fair! and e for all didn't count. who's going to pay 500 dollars on an airplane ticket to go to another state to play a demo of a game?! i'm starting to think that japan hates us. but thats just my opinion. man i'm so steamed!!!!!!!!!!

I think their top priority and reason for the delay was a really polished and satisfying product, but I also think trying to tie in the casuals and the hardcore gamers alike was also a factor.

Then there are boring reasons like logistics and stuff.

I actually remember Nintendo pulling that off the air early, because it talks about "20 unexpected characters" while showing Ridley fighting Samus, and as we all know, Ridley was not playable in Melee. In fact, outside of being in the game's intro for like half a second and having a trophy, he wasnt even aknowledged.
