I'm curious, what do you guys like about Dixie in general?
I didn't really care much for her up until relatively recently. I'm not the world's biggest Donkey Kong fan (I respect it and enjoy the games, but it's not my favourite series, put it that way) and I always just saw Dixie as being "another monkey with a funny name".

So then I looked a bit more into her out of curiosity after Returns and Tropical Freeze were released. I suppose something about her design in the newer games just looks absolutely adorable and instantly endeared me towards her. It just sort of happened that I look at her and thought, "Well, whaddya know, she's pretty cool!" Further research into her appearances throughout the series and fond nostalgia for Donkey Kong Country 2, along with Smash 4 speculation and seeing how well and truly dedicated you fine folks are, does improve my perspective on her - can happily say I'm now a fan and I hope we see more from her in the series ahead!

I like Dixie because she's hilariously overpowered compared to the other Kongs in the Country games, and yeah, she has a really cute design. That was enough to make me like her really.

Though I guess the main reason is that I have fond memories of Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3 and she's heavily attached to those games. I also feel she's easily recognizable and noteworthy enough of a Nintendo character to have made it into Smash Bros. by now, so I've been supporting her ever since these games were announced.

I really hope Dixie Kong is added to the game as DLC. I would love to play as her, she's definitely my favorite Donkey Kong character.

I find it unfair that Kid Icarus gets 3 playable fighters, and Fire Emblem 4, while the Donkey Kong series only gets 2. Donkey Kong Country Returns has sold 4.96 million units while Kid Icarus Uprising has only sold 1.18 million units and Fire Emblem: Awakening 1.33 million.

Well, to be fair.... Kid Icarus was originally going to have 2 characters and Fire Emblem, 3 characters... I am really hoping that Dixie Kong makes the DLC along with Mewtwo... I mean, she was planned to be in Brawl just like Dr. Mario and Mewtwo were and those two are confirmed!

Plus, the Donkey Kong series is far more consistent when it comes to quality than both Kid Icarus and Fire Emblem series :)

Is had read somewhere that the reason Barbara the Bat (assist trophy in Brawl) was taken out was because Dixie's final smash was going to be pretty much exactly what Barbara did.
Well I can't say I would be upset about that :-) wonder where you read that

Honestly, Dixie is probably the most iconic Nintendo character that isn't currently playable in Smash (Mewtwo would be good competition if he wasn't already coming, though). She comes from a popular series and was playable in two older, well-loved games, one of which she was the lead at a time where female protagonists in games were even rarer than they are today; and she's still around today. I'm pretty sure she's reasonably recognizable to the general public, too, and definitely more so than Smash fan base-infamous characters such as Ridley, K. Rool, and Isaac.

She really deserves to be in.

Wow that is awesome. I completely missed that. Thank you! :-)
Hm... the Donkey Kong Stage from Smash 64? That's pretty freakin' cool!

I hope it's not the only 64 Stage returning... I would LOVE to see Hyrule Castle and Mushroom Kingdom. Especially Mushroom Kingdom...

If NOT, however... the stage builder will be able to create something at least somewhat similar.
EDIT: That was somewhat off topic...
DIXIE FOR SMASH!

I have expressed my Dixie love many times, and am now really hopeful for DLC! Best case scenario would be if they did Game + character packs. I.e. a stage and character from the game, + trophies, maybe an AT, something like that. And of course Tropical Freeze would be a great one for Dixie. I could also see a Captain Toad pack (especially likely as he's getting an amiibo I believe?), Splatoon, Bayonetta perhaps, and whatever other future games.

A Tropical Freeze stage would be awesome! I myself however would love to see a stage built off of Donky Kong Country 2 or 3 though. To me it seems, with the exception of a song or two, those wonderful games are largely forgotten. The stages they could create off of levels from them could be completely different in feel then anything they have currently.

I was thinking, what if Barbara's Assist Trophy was cut in Smash 4 because Dixie was already planned to be a DLC character, with the guitar in her moveset?

I am grasping at straws, aren't I

I wouldn't say that you are grasping at straws.

Dixie Kong might use the Guitar as part of her projectile or a "shield" type attack that neutralizes projectiles.

The guitar could end up being her Final Smash.

Like Rosalina & Luma's down B then? That would be an extremely useful (and cool) addition to Dixie's moveset.
In a sense. It would not draw items closer to Dixie, but would render projectiles useless against her.

Edit: Meant to say 'would not'.

My ideas for Dixie's specials:

Standard B, Barrel Throw:
Pulls a barrel out and throws forward in an arc. If you hold the B button, she will hold on to it. The longer you hold B the further it travels. You are protected from attacks from above (because she holds the barrel on her head) and are able to move while charging.
Up B, Helicopter Spin:
Dixie spins up slightly and then begins to slow spin-glide downward. This move works like Donkey Kong's, as it doesn't have much upward mobility, but works like Peach's Umbrella because Dixie can continue spinning all the way to the ground, slightly damaging those who get in her way.
Side B, Squitter Ride:
Dixie Charges forward on Squitter the Spider's back, damaging any opponents in front of her. Squitter also leaves a temporary trail of webs behind him that hinders enemy movement for about 1 second, making this a good offensive and a good escape move. (This is similar to Bowser Jr.'s forward B, but does less damage because of the slowing effect.)
Down B, Hair Grab:
Dixie grabs her opponent with her hair and throws them upward. As they travel upward, Dixie automatically follows behind (similarly to how if she threw Diddy or Kiddy she could reach greater heights) but when she gets to her opponent she follows up with an attack. (This move is similar to Bowser's side B move except that it travels upward instead of slamming opponents down)

What do you guys think? @ Altern Altern , you should appreciate this.

I love how you pulled from the games. Squitter would be a very nice touch. The animal buddies should have a roll somewhere as they are so important to the original trilogy. I have to say as much as I love Diddy I think he was a bit of a missed opportunity to pull on peoples nostalgia heart strings. If they could incorporate stuff like you are suggesting into Dixie I think it would help fill that void.

I support Dixie Kong's inclusion as DLC for Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo 3DS And Wii U.

Hopefully not as a clone because she has too much potential and shouldn't be relegated to being just Female Diddy in the eyes of the public, but I'd take her either way.

Next to Mewtwo, Dixie is probably the most likely candidate for DLC. In my opinion of course.

It is rather unfortunate Dixie Kong's SmashBoards fan-base is among the quietest, especially compared to far louder fan-bases of other (occasionally obscure, obnoxious, and/or overrated) characters - you would think just by looking at the replies/thread views alone, Dixie is a dark-horse. She is unsung.

Nonetheless, she is among the most deserving, and perhaps even among the most likely, characters for DLC (if it extends beyond Mewtwo). Given extra development time devoted to these select few characters, perhaps there will be a realization for her potential, far beyond the disparagement of "Diddy in drag" Dixie seems to suffer from detractors.

Something to cheer Dixie on, take a read:
I fully understand why Dixie fell out of the limelight, better than most.

DK64 suffered from a mid-development upheaval. If you're familiar with the story of Miyamoto demanding the story of Four Swords Adventures be changed so it was less connected to A Link to the Past, it's essentially that, only with the top producers from Rare giving the call.

Most of this is rumor, but there's strong reason to believe Tiny Kong and Chunky Kong were originally Dixie and Kiddy, until the producers decided they wanted to return to the series roots. In fact, it's believed Chunky Kong was literally an older Kiddy redesign, before he was turned into Kiddy's older brother. It's a decision that, luckily, did not affect the quality of the game, but it's certainly a nice what-if scenario. It did result in Dixie Kong missing out on the DKC's only n64 appearance, however, which I feel had a negative effect on her future appearances in the series.

Dixie and Kiddy were both going to be included in Rare's next Donkey Kong game, Donkey Kong Racing on the Gamecube, but when they were bought out by MicroSoft, that game was scrapped entirely.

Then DK entered Video Game Limbo. For the better part of a decade, we were lucky if any elements from the Country games made it into the new ones. Conspiracy theorists like to blame Nintendo for intentionally sequestering off Rare-created elements, but that isn't true. They did show up from time to time, there just seemed to be a more conscious effort to keep Donkey Kong the most important part of the Donkey Kong franchise, which isn't inherently a bad thing.

What I don't understand is why K.Rool suddenly has such a huge following when Dixie doesn't seem to have half of that, especially in light of her Return.

Dixie Kong is literally the only missing character keeping me from being 100% satisfied with the roster. When this game began development I had three wants: Mega Man, Little Mac, and Dixie Kong. Everything else is icing on the cake.

I feel the same way toward DLC. There are plenty of characters whose inclusion would excite me, but only the one that I genuinely want.

Dixie-thread is back on line huh?

Still supporting and still hoping she follows. Like always, DKC3 was my childhood and after clearing DKC2, it feels wrong that Dixie is missing from the current DK Crew, much along with K.Rool.

There is supposed to be a moving model of Dixie in development, at least someone said it.
If she's only an Assist trophy or a stage hazard in the Wii U version, this may open the door for King K. Rool.

I'm with you there, vaanrose. Sure, there are characters like K. Rool or Wolf that would genuinely get me excited, but Dixie's the only character at this point that I need to be satisfied with this roster, especially now that Mewtwo's confirmed to return.

I know a lot of people who feel that way, including myself and @ Altern Altern ... although I guess Lucas's return would be the person I'd most like to see aside from Dixie Kong.

This just seems like the right time to finally include her. Donkey Kong Country Returns was hugely successful and the franchise more than deserves a new representative.

I also like your idea of including Captain Toad/Toadette. It'd be extremely smart on Nintendo's part to release characters that will not only keep people interested in Smash Bros long after its' release, but who also advertise for newer games. Although... he'd HAVE to jump...

Mewtwo, megaman, and dixie kong were my 3 most wanted characters to be in smash. With 2 of the 3 already revealed it would be so amazing to see Dixie, who I feel is the most deserving Nintendo character at this point.

The same person who had inside information about the koopalings, etc. also claims to have seen moving models of mewtwo, Ridley, chorus kids, and dixie. With mewtwo and Ridley already confirmed (as a boss) and the chorus kids most likely cut due to 3ds limitations, I wonder what this could mean for Dixie Kong? I'd hate to see her get scrapped late in development again.

If, theoretically speaking, Dixie comes with her own home stage, what would you like to see?

Personally I'd love to see a snow-themed stage to celebrate her return in Tropical Freeze, or even a minecart stage to make reference to her platforming heritage. It'd also demonstrate that Donkey Kong has more to it than just jungles, and I can see such stages utilising other features of the series that we have yet to see as stage elements, such as Animal Buddies and swinging ropes. There's a lot of potential there if Sakurai's willing to dig deep and do something cool and exciting!

i would personally love a minecrart level.I could see a lot of fast pace action going on and that's always a good things.I also do agree with a lot of you dixie was in my main 5(megaman,little mac, robin,Ridley,Dixie) and with 4 of those characters getting in rather playable or not having dixie in would just be fantasic

I think Dixie's home stage should come from her game (aka Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble). No idea what level in specific, though.

I see. I would rather have see a stage from DKC3 recreated in HD rather than having a straight port of a Tropical Freeze stage.

I want Bramble Scramble (DKC2 not Tropical Freeze) as a home stage for Dixie mostly because it would look great in HD, fit the environment feel that the series has, as well as bring in some great tracks.

My second choice would be Busted Bayou as a silhouette level or even Grassland Groove to represent Tropical Freeze.

Unless I'm mistaken, we don't have an awful vertical scroller that nobody likes yet.

So take one part Icicle Mountain, one part Rumble Falls, and bam, Tropical Freeze stage.
