I leave for a few months to clear things up with myself, and here I come back to a **** WV PLAYER-FINDER!!! WTF!? ..........sweet..............

About **** time that WV smashers got their butts in gear...I've only been waiting like 3 years (lol). Technically, I still live in Martinsburg, WV, contrary to what people say. I'm up in Hagerstown, MD a lot because of work and my girlfriend. So, I guess you could say I'm in both places. So, somebody needs to organize a Smash event for some WV & MD players...

...>_>

We've already had some tournaments and a few of us here are definitely on par with some of the top players (TC Crew in Charleston). I assume you're more experienced with tournaments than we are, so can you give us some advice?

I'm not sure what advice you would be looking for other than straight-up game advice, and all the best thing I can tell you for that is watch videos and read character threads to assimilate things you like into your gameplay. That's how you practice with no one around IMO. But anyway, glad to see there's a WV thread with some people in it. WV players can get together online when Brawl comes out.

I think he may have meant more along the lines of setting up/ organizing tournaments, but if he didn't, then some advice there would be helpful.

Yeah, I was asking about tournament organization. We've got down probably 99% of the tech skill already and have enough metagame to compete at decently high levels.

Hey, anyone in WV remember me? I stopped in earlier this year (August 24 maybe???) and play a group of you guys as Samus?

What's going on? Do you guys have power rankings or anything?

I'll be in at Christmas, hopefully, if you want to get together again and have a smashfest, perhaps a tournament too! Oh well, c ya.

No, we don't have power rankings. I think it would be a good idea, but I'm not sure if we have enough people participating in tournaments. However, there's a chance a few of us are going to go to a Columbus tournament this coming weekend. Hopefully we can make a good showing there. Then maybe we'll look into doing power rankings.

Anyway, yeah we remember you. Let us know when you stop in, we'd definitely like to have a smashfest whenever you come in. Maybe we can organize a tournament in Madison or something, too.

I live too far away from all of you other WV players realistically. I live all the way on the very tip of the eastern panhandle. I don't have the kind of resources needed to make that kind of trip. If any of you all are near WVU whatsoever, that may be a different story.

As for the part about advice, I apologize for interpreting the question the wrong way. My bad.

1) The first thing that pops to mind about tournament organization is that the point for holding one is to gather a large amount of people who want to all play the same game for fun and competition, so you need to have a large turn-out. Well, one of the best ways to attract people is to make yourself known, so you're kind of required to travel to lots of different tournaments. Any and all large tournaments are definitely a good bet, and talk to EVERYBODY. I'm pretty sure that I still have the reputation of being a really nice guy that most people enjoy being around (I hope so).

2) Advertise your tournament properly and I don't mean just saying "Hey, there's a tournament at this place soon." To some people it may not seem like much, but the presentation of your post in these forums for the tourney actually could be a big deal. Not only that, but you want to announce the tournament months before it actually happens. Trying to have a tournament in a month normally doesn't work for people, and the turn-out will probably be like half of the intended.

3) Unfortunately, location is a big deal as I'm sure you all know by now. The location you all are in may never draw a lot of attention. To help your location out, you might want to try and possibly advertise tournaments locally and try to gather a larger local player base and just practice together as much as possible. If you do that and make a really good showing at a larger, more popular tournament, then I'm sure attention will be drawn over your way and people will be more willing to do whatever just to play against you.

4) As for serious tournament organization advice, the thread in the Tournaments Discussion sub-forum is a really good place to check out for advice...the one by Nealdt.

**I hope this information is more along the lines of what you other WV players were looking for. <(^_^)>

Sorry Mods for the double post, please don't smite your humble servant!

Ok, WV players, I was just reading the rules about creating a "Power Rankings" thread and I would like to say that since there are more WV players and I meet the criteria to start one of those threads, I am seriously considering starting one. However, I cannot do this alone so states the rules.

I have always been a very competitive Smasher and take my tournament play seriously. I wish to bring up the competitiveness of our state. States or regions that have a power rankings thread tend to become more competitive for one sole reason: people want to see their names high up on the rankings. If we do this and take our gaming more seriously, I believe we can increase the competitiveness and overall skill of the players in the state even though we probably won't see each other much.

With that said, I want to see some responses from all you other WV players, and it would be great to hopefully see some new faces spring up from this little project. If one person needs to head the thread (which needs to happen), I would be more than happy to start it. Please respond asap with your thoughts.

Also, if we go through with this, I don't know how many of you have read the actual regulations on starting one of these threads, but I suggest that you do. There has to be a minimum of 3 total panelists for a region or state. Considering how many people there are listed in the WV player finder, I think we should only need 3 total. There's a start! So please respond asap. ^_^

Thank you!

One thing I would like to throw in on that wall-o-advice is that if you do in fact garner a large number of attendees to your function, do NOT include yourself in the tournament. During the time that you are playing a set, you end up holding everyone up!

It is a sacrifice that makes everyone else's experience that much better. (Also, don't spend any entrance fees on anything other than prize money unless you previously stated that the fees were going towards something else)

My friends and I talked over the power rankings issue.

We think there should be at least four panelists. There are two main crews in WV that I know of, one here in Charleston and one in Madison. Our crew in Charleston (TC) has a reputation around the state for being by far the best. I believe we should have at least one member on the panel. Madison should also have a panelist, since that crew is pretty active. As for the last panelist or two, I think Kaotical should be one and maybe someone else from another part of the state whom we have seen at tournaments (with some promise).

Well, I had a crew a while back that consisted of me, StoneColdLink, Kal-El, and somewhat Sesshomaru when he was around...and Dante. But, that's neither here nor there. Anyways...

I agree with the 4 panelists idea. I took another look at the amount of players in WV and I underestimated how many there were, so 4 sounds good. For the candidates, I have not seen 3/4 of the people on the list ever, so I don't know about their experience, integrity, knowledge, or game skills, but that does not matter considering I'm the only one who can say that. Since it states in the regulations to start a thread such as what I suggested you have to be a respected individual and tournament organizer (emphasis on TO), I think I should start and maintain the thread. I'll gladly do it. If anyone from WV disagrees with this, please, voice your opinion.

As for the panelists, I would like other WV players to PM me about why they should be a panelist and why they would want to be one to begin with. We'll stick with what Balladechina said with 1 from the TC crew and 1 from Madison. I'd like to be a panelist because of my location in consideration to the rest of you and because of my experience. (I hope I don't sound selfish.) For the 4th member, again, I'd like you other WV players to PM me with ideas for who should be the 4th panelist. There's not really anybody who plays in my area anymore making me the only one here in eastern WV. But please, keep it at no more than 1 from a crew.

I'll be waiting for PM's before this goes any further. Can't do anything without panelists.

**EDIT: P.S. = Put me down as a Ganon/Peach player. ^_^

Would I be on the WV power rankings?

I've debated this with a few people, and they told me it comes down to my choice. My permanent residence is WV, but I have been living AZ for over a year. I think I have a chance of being on the AZ top ten, but if I don't, would that make me applicable for the WV power ranks?

:/

Well coreygames, why are you in AZ to begin with and when do you plan on returning to WV?

Ok, one member per crew sounds good as long as the other members are also fair. I know that a couple of the Madison kids have not played TC Crew for a while and may think they can beat us ;-), so their opinion may be unfounded (right now).

By the way, we can't come down to Madison very easily. If you guys want to come up some time, we'll do that money match and crew battle. Maybe Byped won't take down 18 of your stocks on his own this time, jk.

Yeah, if you guys could head up pretty much any Wednesday and most Fridays (or some day during the weekend), it would be cool. We'll try to come down sometime (I might, and maybe a couple others, attend the tourney down there if it happens), but you guys are free to come up whenever. I'm looking forward to another crew battle (hopefully I'll get to participate this time XD).

I'm thinking Jacob is not going to be a panelist. It will (or should) be someone like Kyle who's played us recently, knows how we've done in tournaments, and also knows who the best among the Madison players.

Speaking of Madison, Killa, you need to tell Kyle and them to get smashboards accounts (if they don't already have one) so we can keep this thread more active.

Also, any ideas when you guys think you could come up (or when this smash/halo tournament will be)? Tsubasacon was fun (and it was cool hanging with you guys), and I'm looking forward to more outside competition.

His Internet was too slow to do stuff like this but he just got high-speed. Kyle and I were deciding on whether he or I would be the dude to do it. (I really wish that Jacob, Aaron, and I could have went to TsubasaCon. I heard everyone but Kyle got embarassed in the crew fight) It probably would be easier if we came to you because none of us have much of a problem with transportation and such. I hope I can actually get pretty good if I can play with people with more technical skill. (Kyle and I are pretty much the only people in our area who actually wave-dash effectively though Aaron SHLs with Falco now and Jacob has some technical skill.)

BTW, do you guys recall a girl named "Stripes" hitting on Kyle up there?

(I think the tourney is on the 4th)

The 4th? As in this weekend? I thought the Halo 3 tourney was the 10th.

Anyway, if we can't do anything this weekend, could you guys come up here Saturday or Sunday?

My apologies. It is the 10th. I confused it with a show I want to go to on the 4th, lol.

We definitely do not plan on winning the crew fight but we won't embarass ourselves as badly as the guys you fought at TsubasaCon. (Kyle will probably be fighting with us and from what I heard, I had no clue what the hell Jalen was doing. He usually does better than what he did)

Have you guys tried "Through The Fire And The Flames" yet on GH3?

So can you guys come this weekend? Possibly?

On another note, KrazyKnux and I just had a revelation about uploading videos. We should have a few videos (SSBM, GHII and GHIII) up on Youtube this weekend.

EDIT: Yes, "Stripes" is real. In case you were wondering. Except I don't think she had any interest for Kyle, maybe the other way around.

I'm in AZ for college, but may or may not come home. But I don't plan on staying in AZ at all. So I guess that if I get out and don't immediately get a job I will go home, but will move somewhere else if I do.

Too bad you all live so far away... -_-;

Well, since there are 2 big crews in WV and not a lot of very active players outside of those crews, it may be easier to stick with 3 panelists for our power rankings, but if we can come up with 4 that would be great. I'd love to start the thread right now and discuss the rankings with the panelists, but I need panelists to discuss with. ^_^

The 2 crews should discuss who should be the panelist from each of their respective crews and if possible discuss a 4th panelist cuz it seems like I'm gonna be the 3rd panelist. PM me guys, and we'll see about having that discussion. I'd like to get that thread up real soon.

Hopefully we can have it this weekend (Sunday would be the best possible day for me). If it fails, we could just use a couple of the TVs at the tournament next weekend.

Also, what would be your lineup for the new battle?

Kyle, we need a cool crew name =|

Our lineup is probably Jacob, Aaron, Kyle, and I. We haven't decided our fifth yet. (It would be awesome if we could get Rob but we are probably just going to stick with Jalen)

Ok, I got a PM from the TC crew and a vote from them, so now I'd like a PM from the Madison crew (ya'll need a crew name lol). Then I'll start our very own state power rankings thread. ^_^

In case you all were wondering, I already have the mission statement and such made out. Any questions, just PM me.

Oh yeah, good call on Sunday because I have the SAT this on Saturday. I'm looking forward to you guys coming up here and having a crew battle (and just smashing in general). What about Hunter, though?

Oh yeah, have you guys figure out who your rep. for the Power Rankings will be? Don't forget to PM Kaotical about that.

I'm not but Chris, Kyle, and Hunter are. I think Chris just beat The Devil on expert. I would love to see someone beat "Through The Fire And The Flames" on expert though.

It makes "Jordan" look easy, imo.
