I live too far away from all of you other WV players realistically. I live all the way on the very tip of the eastern panhandle. I don't have the kind of resources needed to make that kind of trip. If any of you all are near WVU whatsoever, that may be a different story.
As for the part about advice, I apologize for interpreting the question the wrong way. My bad.
1) The first thing that pops to mind about tournament organization is that the point for holding one is to gather a large amount of people who want to all play the same game for fun and competition, so you need to have a large turn-out. Well, one of the best ways to attract people is to make yourself known, so you're kind of required to travel to lots of different tournaments. Any and all large tournaments are definitely a good bet, and talk to EVERYBODY. I'm pretty sure that I still have the reputation of being a really nice guy that most people enjoy being around (I hope so).
2) Advertise your tournament properly and I don't mean just saying "Hey, there's a tournament at this place soon." To some people it may not seem like much, but the presentation of your post in these forums for the tourney actually could be a big deal. Not only that, but you want to announce the tournament months before it actually happens. Trying to have a tournament in a month normally doesn't work for people, and the turn-out will probably be like half of the intended.
3) Unfortunately, location is a big deal as I'm sure you all know by now. The location you all are in may never draw a lot of attention. To help your location out, you might want to try and possibly advertise tournaments locally and try to gather a larger local player base and just practice together as much as possible. If you do that and make a really good showing at a larger, more popular tournament, then I'm sure attention will be drawn over your way and people will be more willing to do whatever just to play against you.
4) As for serious tournament organization advice, the thread in the Tournaments Discussion sub-forum is a really good place to check out for advice...the one by Nealdt.
**I hope this information is more along the lines of what you other WV players were looking for. <(^_^)>
