This is not just my personal top 10, this is the OFFICIAL CHAIN-ACE top 10.

This is all fact, and the actual order and the order can not be changed, this

In other words, this is the world's official top 10 best fighting game list.

#10 - Killer Instinct

Reason: getting someone in a beast combo requires skill and an intellectual train of thought

#09 - Tekken 1

Reason: It was the start of a very different, but addicting fighting series

#08 - Shaq Fu (Genesis Only, SNES version does suck)

Reason: Most people think it sucks, but the combos are outrageous (and fun) to pull off, and it stars Shaquil O Neal

#07 - Mortal Kombat Trilogy

Reason: The Mortal Kombat Series , already a good series, is bundled into one grand game

#06 - Dragonball Z: Budokai 3

Reason: The best out of any Dragonball Z Game even after its release, this game brought an entire new sub genre to fighting games

#05 - Super Smash Bros. 64

Reason: Although Labled as a kiddy game, there are almost half as many advance techniques in this game as there are in Melee

#04 - Power Stone 1

Reason: This was the most addicting and unique fighting game of it's time

#03 - Marvel vs Capcom 2

Reason: This game has so many balanced characters and it's also just sexii

#02 - Street Fighter Alpha 3

Reason: This is the hottest fighting game on the planet, every music track is sweet, it's a very intellectual fighting game, it's the best out of any street fighter (including the upcoming street fighter 4), and it was released for about 7 consoles, it's sexii.

#01 - Super Smash Bros. Melee

Reason: This is the most technical, most advanced, most complicated, most deep fighting game on the planet. It spawned on it's own. Sakurai only takes credit for finding this game, he didn't really make it. It's the hottest game on the planet.

And that about raps it up for now, I will be back to edit the case art in and what not.

And you all will agree on the placement of games in the list and the order, because its all true. Its fact. You can't possibly disagree, this is the official list. (lol jk, u can discuss, but i still think my list is the most accurate)

If you're referring to Street Fighter 2 Turbo, that was the best Street fighter game

until Street Fighter Alpha 3 came out :)
>.>
what did Alpha 3 do?

not to mention they say melee is the most technical fighting game, when GG is many levels of ridiculousness higher.

Also, I've never heard of #4, why is it better than 64?

You've NEVER heard of Powerstone? I am not even a fighting game fan (I only like 10 and 7), but I know how great of a game Power Stone is.

hmm... out of those, I actually own #1, #2, #7, and technically #9. Powerstone is supposedly like Smash, but what do I know since i've never actually had the interest to played it.

#10 - Killer Instinct
Sure.

#09 - Tekken 1

No. The first Tekken is god-awful, especially compared to 3 and 5.

#08 - Shaq Fu (Genesis Only, SNES version does suck)

Fail.

#07 - Mortal Kombat Trilogy

It includes only one good game with Mortal Kombat II, and even then it's only eye candy, the fighting system is horrible. Scorpion and Sub-Zero are hella cool, though.

#06 - Dragonball Z: Budokai 3

The only Budokai I can stand.

#05 - Super Smash Bros. 64

Yes.

#04 - Power Stone 1

YES!

#03 - Marvel vs Capcom 2

Balanced characters? lmao. It's fun, but X-Men vs. Street Fighter and SNK vs. Capcom 2 are better.

#02 - Street Fighter Alpha 3

Let's see, no version of Street Fighter III makes it on the list, but Alpha 3 does? Bull ****.

#01 - Super Smash Bros. Melee

It's a classic. Top five for me.
If this is the world's "official best fighting games list," the world is in a worse state than we all thought.

Did someone seriously call MvC2 "balanced"? The same MvC2 where Magneto, Storm, Cable, and Sentinel trash 98% of all other characters?

Where is Soul Calibur?

Where is Tekken 3?

Where is Street Fighter II?

Where is KOF?

Where is Guilty Gear?

Why is Shaq Fu even uttered?

Why is SSB64 on the list when no other series has two entries?

Budoukai 3 may have been the best DBZ game, but that is mainly because the majority of them suck. (Final Bout, anyone?)

List needs moar SNK.

1. You provided an idiotic statistic. If, as you claim, 98% of the cast were leagues below the big four, then that would mean that they themselves are the other 2%. Mathematically speaking, that would mean that MvC2 has 200 playable characters. It doesn't. The roster clocks in at fifty-six. That aside, the characters are not balanced, the teams are balanced. Better than 3rd Strike, where you see two out of nineteen characters winning anything.
2. Soulcalibur is a joke. Don't compare it to any good fighting games.
3. DR > Tekken 3. But not by much.
4. Super Turbo, yes. Hyper Fighting, yes. Champion Edition, maybe. World Warrior and SSFII blow.
5. Outside of 2002 and 98, KoF is garbage.
6. I agree with this despite my hatred for Guilty Gear.
7. Because he's trying to kiss the Smash community's butts.
8. The best DBZ fighter is Super Dragonball Z. Budokai 3 is nowhere close.
9. SNK is responsible for one of the best fighters ever, that being The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match.

Were I to rank the best fighting games ever, I would do so as follows.

10. The King of Fighters 2002
9. Vampire Savior
8. Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millenium 2001
7. Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection
6. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core
5. The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match
4. Super Smash Bros. Melee
3. Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes
2. Virtua Fighter 5 R
1. Super Street Fighter II Turbo

Hyperbole. I believe when you look at the individual characters, not the teams, as this--

This game has so many balanced characters and it's also just sexii
is what I was responding to, the individual characters Magneto, Storm, Cable, and Sentinel have distinct advantages over most of the other individual characters.

That aside, the characters are not balanced, the teams are balanced.
Agreed. See above.

2. Soulcalibur is a joke. Don't compare it to any good fighting games.
In what respect?

3. DR > Tekken 3. But not by much.
I mentioned Tekken 3 because it was the most progressive in the series.

5. Outside of 2002 and 98, KoF is garbage.
But this isn't a list of franchises, it's individual games.

8. The best DBZ fighter is Super Dragonball Z. Budokai 3 is nowhere close.
I've heard people say this. It may be the best gameplay-wise, but, realistically, who plays DBZ for the gameplay? Budoukai 3 IMO had the greatest balance of character choice and gameplay. Tenkaichi had 100+ "characters", but most were clones and gameplay was a joke compared to the 2D games.

10. The King of Fighters 2002
9. Vampire Savior
8. Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millenium 2001
7. Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection
6. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core
5. The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match
4. Super Smash Bros. Melee
3. Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes
2. Virtua Fighter 5 R
1. Super Street Fighter II Turbo
Can't really disagree here, although I haven't played Vampire Savior, Accent Core, Ultimate Match, or VF5R.

I have to disagree with you there, Soul Calibur is consitered one of the best fighting games of all time. The first one on Dreamcast had a lot of perfect scores and consider in the top 10 games on Dreamcast. I would say IV is the best because Amy is awesome. ;p

I can't say for sure because IV has only been out a few months, but II was IMO the best so far. It improved on the first in nearly every way, and it's the last game to feature the unstoppable mid-high tier menace known as Nightmare. Not only was SCIII a nerf-fest whose metagame degenerated into perpetual guarding, but they split Nightmare's moveset between two characters. Not cool. SCIV I'm liking way more than III, but I can't pass judgment in terms of the actual metagame. It is patchable though, so that's a good sign.

I main Cassandra/Astaroth with secondaries varying from game to game (preferably SC2 Nightmare), so I don't play much of Soul Edge/Soul Calibur I.

I saw these and stopped reading. Although Capcom is the better company overall with games like Darkstalkers, Rival Schools, the vs. Series, KoF > Street Fighter. It's a fact of life.

Street Fighter II, all incarnations, are terrible games. They have aged horribly. I have more fun picking up my old copy of Mortal Kombat 1 (which sucks total ***) than I do picking up Super Street Fighter II Turbo on the SNES.

I think Third Strike, as a single game, is better than the KoF series. Hell, I still think Super Turbo is better than most fighting games nowadays.

:laugh:LMAO!!! Are you serious? Come on man, a basketball player that suddenly learns the ways of kung fu fighting against warriors from other dimensions to rescue a boy named Nezu from a mummy? Tell me how that makes ANY sense at all lol. the game is terrible and the controls are clunky. You cant honestly compare that with street fighter/tekken/Power Stone/SSB. You just cant...

Primal Rage was a pretty good game, at least the SNES that I own was. The characters were all well balanced to the point where I have a hard time decindinon who the best one is. It even had combos and anti-air/anti-projectile moves, so it had a good amount of depth.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned MUGEN. There are compilations out there that are fairly balanced. Very few and far between, but they're there.
I like MUGEN because it lets people create very original fighting characters. However, the fact that you can do anything with them does, in a way, kill any hope of being remotely popular at a bigger scale than it is right now.

And I'm still looking for someone that can understands that SF3 : Third Strike is the best fighting game ever, lulz.

Soulcalibur is a button-masher's dream come true. There's a reason that it's remained a niche community in the world of fighting games. It's the same reason the same applies to DBZ fighters and Dead or Alive: all of those games are unplayable garbage to any knowledgeable and seasoned fighting game player. Soulcalibur got a perfect score from the same people that claim Brawl is perfect. The games suck. Deal with it.
Oh, and Amy was playable for the first time in Soulcalibur III. She's a tourney-legal character in Japan. She's broken.

 The fact that you play ST on a SNES shows how little you know. No offense, but you really need to go ahead and keep your mouth shut about things you don't understand.
The arcade iteration of Super Turbo is a masterpiece. It isn't just the best fighting game of all time, it's one of the best video games of any genre, on any platform, anywhere, ever. KoF has, as I said, produced two good installments, those being '98 and 2002. There were three installments of Street Fighter II that were very well-received by the tournament community(aka people who know what a good fighting game is, i.e. not Soulcalibur). Those were Champion Edition, Hyper Fighting, and especially Super Turbo. All three of those versions of the game get an intense degree of high-level play even to this very day. Aged poorly? No fighting game has aged better. Honestly, I don't think any fighting game ever will, either.

That alone speaks volumes. If she's tourney-legal in Japan then there must be something to it, because vidya games is serious business over there--as in, if they're letting her in then there must be a reason for it. But I digress.

The lack of SNK in the list is very depressing. I'd put CAPCOM VS. SNK over CAPCOM VS. MARVEL any day of the week.

I have played in on the arcades, I had as a kid and picked up a copy on the SNES. I picked it up one day and said "wow, did I really like this ****?" and put it away forever. I use MAME for KoF, Samurai Shodown, Vampire Savior, Street Fighter III, MvC, as well as others, and play Melty Blood using an arcade stick on computer. Sadly, no of the arcades by my house have Guilty Gear or SNK vs. Capcom machines, so I have to use ports with a stick (or SF II machines, for that matter, they got replaced with the infinitely superior Third Strike), I only play the cabinets at Fanime or other conventions. We use to have Virtua Fighter 4, but I got that on PS2 and so far like Virtua Fighter 5. My bad re-introduction to the SF II games have made me lose interest for SF II and I haven't picked it up on MAME. Super SF II Turbo makes it on the top ten most over-rated games ever list, although not in the top five.

Street Fighter IV has potential. I've only played it a handful of times (three machines, and all are basically packed outside the door with lines). It plays like a better SF II.

The lack of SNK in the list is very depressing. I'd put CAPCOM VS. SNK over CAPCOM VS. MARVEL any day of the week.
Yes, although both are very good, the fact a first-timer can pick up a character and literally mash the buttons and win is a mark on MvC 2. Plus, SNK and Capcom, that is a match made in heaven.

Here's hope that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is any good. Heard it plays like a 2.5D MvC.

She was tourney-legal in Japan. Then they wised up and realized how horrible Soulcalibur is. It's not a big deal. They loved SvC Chaos and Neo Geo Battle Coliseum for a while too.
Also, if you want to talk about unbalanced, you can talk about CvS2. It's the same team winning most of the time. A-Groove, some combination of Vega, Bison, Blanka, and Sakura. Granted, there are exceptions to this rule just like all rules, but at least with Marvel there's more than one team to fear.

@hemightbegiant: If you honestly think that Third Strike is superior to ST, I can't help you. You're just that ignorant. Third Strike is a n00b magnet, and it's great if you like to win by guessing, but for those of us who like to think, there's ST.

There is truth there, I absolutely hate fighting against Vega and Sakura, I always see at least one of them in a winning team. It's just a curse that people who use characters they like, regardless of tier and whatnot, have to face.

Guilty Gear > Street Fighter in general.

Go ahead, think. It's not illegal to disagree or anything :/

shaq fu and virtua fighter are ****ing ********. (virtua may be respected but I just don't like it any tekken game > virtua fighter.

No ones going to agree on a 'perfect list' we have such a diverse group of people it's like comparing the best bands. but hey that's what debatings for.
