alright mothertruckers, it's time for MY response now.
first off, sups, nc.
anyways. im going to address some things about nc and communities in general.
it is the general appeal of smash to beat people, copy pros, and enjoy the company of people around us. it is in all senses of the word, a community. whether this community is fixed physically does not affect its functions.
as a community, it must be treated as such. and therein lies your fallacy, pp. you cannot address a community as an entity to imprint your ideas and hope they stick to everyone. it cannot be the expectation to want everyone to espouse your same perspective on the game. there are those who don't care enough and those who need another perspective to remain in the community.
like i have pointed out many times, this is one of your largest flaws. and ironic as you label me as the one who doesn't consider other views. i will not be hesitant to say that i view my ideas as superior. quite simply, i do not feel that i am second to anyone in my thinking, whether intrinsically or as a result of my academically-focused upbringing. regardless, i will not apologize ever for putting my ideas out there. but as evidenced by more quantifiable means (and it doesn't mean what you probably think it does but i won't divulge), i think i have good reason to believe in my line of thinking. perhaps it is equally my flaw to expect that same reasoning to be understood by everyone as it is yours to expect people to embrace yours.
but even this thread clearly corroborates your need to burger king ("have it your way").
there are a variety of reasons that i often feel frustrated about the state of nc smash. it is not because others are not as dedicated as me or they have their trolls or any of that petty stuff you have brought up. it is because i am not the best. that is it. i entirely agree with your view of no johns. yes, stfu and play. but it is probably an equally valid strategy to ignore johners.
johns are rationalizations. only when people no longer do this will they begin to truly embrace the game for improvement. and you cannot force people into this. so i don't see a need to coddle them into playing for whatever. i would rather have people quit than play if they're going to whine. ive had enough of this babying. this is not to say this is a mature game or whatever, but im tired of people being immature. i suppose its a result of interacting with 15 year olds when im used to college minds, but
if ur going to quit, then gtfo. seriously, imo, just quit. if at such a low level of play you can't wrap ur head around this game and the "pressure" of such things wears you down, gtfo. come back when u grow up. it's one of the aspects of competition and if you can't take it now, how can you picture yourself at a higher level of play where the pressure is greater and you have to worry about more people and you have higher expectations.
and if you're only playing for fun/staying in the community, sure. but don't expect to good. if you are, that's great. but if you are all angry about losing, we're just going to laugh at you.
as for the prs, i'll say this:
if you don't care enough about them, you don't care enough about improving enough. if you win in tournament, that's how you want to continue. and that will be reflected in the prs. you can say totally that they don't reflect skill.
but if dsw never placed well, we would just say he's another uuaa (hi

). and dsw would not be dsw. you can care about what you want. that's fine. but the rest of us will look at tournament results. in a competitive environment, clear markers are needed for points of comparison. you can be smarter but if i have a higher gpa, that's what schools and recruiters see. and that's all that matters to everyone outside of you. if you don't place well, you can use "skill" to help urself along, but in the end, 9th @ pound > not in bracket.
so john all you want. do whatever the **** u want nc. but i'll know im right and u should know ur right. just don't expect everyone to agree.
