See, cause this is such a riveting argument, I need to offer my rebuttal.

The topic on the floor is...

"Ridley sucks, and his only chance is as a boss."

First of all, you don't have a case, if you can't support your claim. However, for entertainment purposes, let's say you could make a case out of this.

First of all, no. He doesn't, under the following premises:

1) Ridley has appeared in every Metroid game sans Metroid II and Metroid Prime II: Echoes, for reasons pertaining to the story. For a character that sucks, I'd really like to know why he'd been in a series more than once. Couldn't be because he has a large fan base and is one of the most popular characters in the Metroid series next to Samus.

2) Ridley has strong ties to Samus; The fact that Ridley killed her parents, and nearly killing her, forced the Chozo to infuse Samus with Chozo DNA, so that she can use the Chozo Varia suit, which is primarily used in the Metroid games, sans Metroid Fusion. For a character that sucks, I'd really like to know why he has such a strong backstory pertaining to our protagonist.

3) Ridley (and Pit), were meant to be in melee. However, due to production time, and system limitations, the two characters were cut due to not being able to animate the wings (respectively) and tail properly. You'll notice in the opening movie for Melee, that Ridley does not have a tail for this reason. But, if was supposed to be in Smash Brothers, the greatest Nintendo fighting game to date, he must be pretty **** cool to make that roster. But you said he sucks, right? Heh. Must be true.

4) Ridley is one of the most popular characters within Nintendo. While not as popular as say, Mario, Samus, Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, Ridley is very popular in comparision to several other characters. Let's also take note of the fact, that on Sakurai's poll, Ridley was listed as one of the options, and placed rather highly on the polls. This poll was only open to Japan, and the japanese fan base isn't that big on Metroid/Ridley. Yet, Japan spoke, and said they want Ridley. For a character who sucks, I really wonder why he's so popular.

5) Ridley has one of the most interesting moveset potentials. Ridley flies (which we now know/assume that he'd have the ability to glide), has large, razor sharp claws, rows of sharp teeth amongst his powerful jaws, and a wicked, vicious tail (which, if you've ever played a Metroid, you know how useful and awesome that tail is. Don't lie to yourself). He also spews fireballs and beams of plasma from his mouth, opening up a projectile option for our Space Pirate leader. But he sucks, so these moves wouldn't be that great. Shame, really.


Will Ridley be a boss in Brawl; I don't doubt it. We've had bosses before (Giga Bowser). Mewtwo and Ganondorf were bosses alongside Giga Bowser, and those two are playable. Why couldn't Ridley (tell me he's too big. I effing dare you)?

Actually, looking at all of these points... Ridley doesn't seem like he sucks to me. Nope, not at all. And I'm also pretty **** certain the census of this topic, and most of Smashboards would agree with me.

Comparing Ridley to Sonic characters is like comparing Apples to brussel sprouts. You can't compare him to a character from any other franchise, because they may both possibly be in. But not only are you comparing Ridley to a character from another franchise, you're comparing him to a character from a different party! Tails isn't going to get into Brawl because he's "not deserving", he's simply not going to get in because he simply doesn't belong to Nintendo, at least not 100%, and I'd highly doubt they'd add a second representative for SEGA. That's why Tails won't get into Brawl. Really, if SEGA made a game with something similar to Brawl (which it has), then Tails would be in it (which he has). I used to be a pretty big Sonic fan, have you played Sonic Battle?


YOU may not think Ridley would be good in Brawl, but what you think doesn't matter; his chances of making it is still high, and he was just as requested as Ike and Diddy who, let me remind you, are confirmed.

Ridley just hasn't been in a lot of games, he's just the second most important character in the whole series!!

They very well have overdone the "mario/muchroom kingdom" characters. Too many.

As for my source of Ridley and Pit being in melee, I'm not finding anything.

However, according to Sakurai, Lucas was supposed to be in Melee, but the game was delayed (Mother 3), so Ness stayed. The game that was to represent the original Nintendo era was tossed up amongst several games, including Urban Champion, Excitebike, Clu Clu Land, and Balloon Fight. Ice Climbers was their pick. Hideo Kojima also wanted Snake in melee, but there was a time issue, along with being so late in development.

Edits: I don't think Ganondorf or Bowser needed to be in Brawl. But they were, oh well.

No need, remember how screenshots appeared when you beat story or classic modes with characters? Well, one of them with Samus featured her aiming at Ridley. The odd thing about Ridley was his size, he was much smaller than what he actually is in the Metroid games. I'm pretty sure that's evidence that he was supposed to be in Melee.

Sorry Betrayed, but Ridley is too important to be cast off as solely a boss or an AT. That's for characters like... Shy guy, Petey Piranha or nintendogs that aren't based in an action/adventure game at all. And after how he's one of the most asked for characters? And how he's the most prominent character in the Metroid series after Samus herself? And the fact that with more slots open I highly doubt that Samus will be the only character included from that series, and Ridley is next in line.

As for being portrayed realistically? Sakurai has been able to pull it off with numerous characters like the Ice Climbers. He definitely can do it for Ridley.

I have come to the conclusion that you are in fact, a troll, demanding attention because no one outside of your four walls at home, work, or school, will give you any attention, so you proceed to other topics/forums to get a rise out of people.

I believe you have a right to your opinion, but in the same respect, we have a right to our own opinions.

As I said, I think Sonic has a chance to get into Brawl, even though I don't want him in it. In the same respect, I hope you get your "Magical update" confirming Sonic for Brawl. But as it stands, Ridley has a greater chance, due to the fact that he's a first party Nintendo character. The only reason I say this, is because I'm not including fan base over hard facts; the hard facts being that Ridley is first party, and Sonic is third.

Due to a large fanbase on both sides of the arguement; I think Sonic has a strong chance, and Ridley has a strong chance.

But this is where you and I stop talking (not that I think you're reading any of this anyway, cause you're a troll).

So with that, I'm putting you on my "not reading any of the slander coming from his posts" list. With that, I bid you good luck in your future endeavors, that Sonic makes into Brawl, and a nice, hearty STFU, GTFO.
