your posts have been extremely far off the mark recentlyas long as you have no delusions/intentions about becoming a connoisseur/critic/know-it-all, the point of listening to music is to enjoy it in the moment
listen to what you like, if you don't like something, don't force it upon yourself just because everybody else does
i wouldn't pay much attention to pocky's opinions on matters relating to musicyour posts have been extremely far off the mark recently
humans are evolutionarily primed to reject what is unfamiliar. so if you discard everything you immediately don't like, good luck finding what you really do like.
QFTdon't force it upon yourself =/= discard it forever
that's some boc-azz ****Dandelion Gum and Eating Us by Black Moth Super Rainbow.
Eating Us is probably more accessible, though Dandelion Gum is more badass. Get them both, they're good. Then get Start a People if you really like those.
here's a small taste (I don't want to spoil the truly epic moments of the album for you): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwJamPPTJl4
also the main dude, Tobacco, has solo work that is amazing too. more hip-hop influenced than BMSR. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGrL5qJF5pg
it's not like music X or nothing... the time you spend trying to "enjoy" music X by listening to it repeatedly despite not having a great first impression could also be spent listening to new music Y and Zyour posts have been extremely far off the mark recently

i don't know/care about specific music, but i feel like i understand music "theory" and all that just finei wouldn't pay much attention to pocky's opinions on matters relating to music
how long do you think your impressions are (poorly phrased but idc, think you know what i mean)despite your impressions
haahahahahahi don't know/care about specific music, but i feel like i understand music "theory" and all that just fine
if you're trying to say that your first impression does not always reflect how you will feel after it "grows" on you, then i agree.how long do you think your impressions are (poorly phrased but idc, think you know what i mean)
haahahahahah
Emo and overly marketed things come to mind.there are things that you hear and you instantly hate and things that you hear and are indifferent towards
Don't forget things you like now that you'll eventually dislike.SuperRad said:there are also things that i hear and instantly hate that i will like down the road
youre strawmanningthat's a false dilemma bud
one of these things is not like the otherhere are some examples in no particular order...
biggie smalls
the cardigans
all shall perish
basshunter (whom i think is overrated)
journey

haha yeah.one of these things is not like the other
i dont know of any band that doesnt have at least a couple unpleasant songsi do like savage garden
they don't have enough material for them to be a favorite though, and they do have some unpleasant songs
how frequently does this happen?there are also things that i hear and instantly hate that i will like down the road
I hated my now favorite band the first time I heard them. Actually like the first 20-30 times I heard them.how frequently does this happen?
if it doesn't happen often, I question whether it's worth it to listen to songs you hate 10x in a row just for the 5% chance that you end up liking it when you could be listening to either music you already like or music that you have not yet experienced
if it happens often, then i would just attribute that to you not really having an idea of what you like to begin with, and thus your "instant hate" carries much less weight
edit: concerning savage garden, given that they only have 20-30 songs total that I know of, having 5 terrible songs is much more of a killer than for a band that has 5-6 albums
