He stated somewhere the reason they were not in Brawl was because he saw them as gimmicky. Of course now they are continuously used console to console he may have changed his mind.
Are there any sources showing that Sakurai thinks the Miis are gimmicky?

I just tried to look it up (see my previous post) but I can not find it. So either it got buried or gimmick wasn't the right word. It doesn't help they named Miiverse what it is because search up mii smash bros and I mostly get that.

Except that sakurai doesn't like taking away what makes each character unique. He said he doesn't want to give them costume changes like hats/glasses/etc because he doesn't want the characters to feel less like themselves. Miis already have a lot of stuff to use on their own anyways and I am sure some sort of customization gimmick would be implemented (Maybe like a choice of 6 moveset styles or something or it calculates the speed/damage of each attack based on the facial proportions being more normal (To punish inappropriate mii makers))
It wouldn't take away from their uniqueness. They would basically be people cosplaying as their favorite characters. There is already a precedent for Miis to adopt this principle based on Nintendo Land, so it would not be out of the ordinary for Miis to dress as Nintendo characters. Of course they could have their own moveset, but this would be an easy, fun character add. Having Charade or Edgemaster in Soul Calibur does not take away from Ivy, Nightmare, or Voldo's uniqueness.

I don't know...all of Mii's games involve Motion Controls, it'd be weird playing as them with a controller....

Not to say it couldn't work, but it'd be weird.

You do know they have appeared on the 3DS right? Which doesn't involve much motion controls if at all. (Their sometimes optional though in games like Mario Kart 7)

I guess. They could have unique movesets, but Bowling Balls, Boxing, Baseball, Golf, and Tennis are all included in other movesets.

That'd be like saying no other characters should use swords because Link does. There are ways to implement objects/weapons so that their function and playstyle remain differentiated. Not to mention that the Miis do have a lot more to work with than just sports-related objects already seen in Smash.

True I guess, but I've yet to see too many original movesets with them. What I see most people say is to make them a template and be able to choose different moves from every character to use.

There are many different ways a character can make use of certain weapons. For example, while Villager just drops the Bowling Ball, the Mii can use it by just rolling it at his/her opponent. And like N3ON said, just because a character already has a certain item in their disposal doesn't mean others can't use it either. Else we wouldn't have gotten the other Fire Emblem characters.

Besides, Mii's can make use of a whole lot more things than just sports equipment.

That does remind me though, I haven't actually seen anyone propose a moveset for the Mii yet. :/

Oh gosh I'm starting to sound like a Mii supporter when I'm just neutral on them.... :T

Think about peoples feelings towards clones. They would feel very much like a wasted spot that could have had so much potential from their series instead of borrowing from other series. Even then the 'copy' gimmick is given to a character much more known for it-Kirby. They have a lot of games to take stuff from- wii play, wii sports, wii music, wii fit, wii party, wii chess (?), pilotwings, mario kart, wii plaza, mii maker, mii parade, nintendogs+cats, nintendo land, miiverse, super mario sluggers, check mii out, pokemon ranch, brain age, friend collection, and a lot more so they do not have a shortage of games to pull from and have even closer bonds with other franchises as well, but I think they have enough stuff to go off of just their series.

For the smash community, they should know it would take next to no time to just copy a moveset. The models would be the main this to work on. For there greater audience, I think they will be excited to play as Miis regardless. I'm not saying Miis have no potential; it's just an idea. I would love a Mii that uses a pilotwings moveset for example.

It's a trope in fighting games, especially in Namco releases: Ditto Fighter

No I know but that is kinda like saying 'This game is a puzzle game so it has to have falling blocks called tetrimino.' Also people get fairly upset over the smallest stuff. Also HD graphic modeling/texturing/bump mapping/shading takes a long time so it would be like kirby hats, but more extensive. I see this as a larger possibility if the Miis can be customized, but I do not think they will drop all of what miis have that are unique just to try and fit in with other fighter games. (Especially when Sakurai is slightly displeased with people calling it a fighting game in a traditional sense.)

Hmm...that does make it sound more do-able, but what about the Mii character's height and what not? Or would there be a predetermined height for all Mii characters?
There would have to be a predetermined height, otherwise people would abuse smaller hitboxes by making tiny thin mii characters.

I just don't thinks its unprecendented.or anything. I would imagine the get most of the mapping from the original characters. I think will be anger but I think Sakurai realized long ago that you can't please everyone, even in a fan service game.
For Mii customization, that appears likely considering his comments with the 3DS version and customization.
I don't think Miis would lose their uniqueness. In this instance, I look at their appearance in this game as its own entity rather than attempting to use their history. Miis can be applied practically any situation and adapted as we can tell by that list you gave. This would the Miis' appearance in the Battle Royal genre, like Wii Sports was their appearance in the sports genre.

All this Mii talk makes me want to play Pilotwings Resort...

For a recovery, I think the Rocket Belt (like some mentioned) or Hanglider would be a good fit. Smash attacks involves various equipment (baseball bat, tennis racket, sword, etc). I can see Miis being playable considering how prominent they have been especially with 3DS. They'd bring something different to the series, like G&W, ROB and WFT. Plus, I think they're a valuable part of Nintendo's history considering they date back to N64DD :3

Miis would be in the same category as the 3 obscure fighters mentioned, I think.

That's my 25 cents on the matter.

But this game is about taking Nintendo 'all-star' Characters to fight in their own way. Everyone's move sets (minus a few who had their moveset built from scratch since their games were about racing/piloting a spaceship) is based on their game. The Miis have more than enough to take from their own series so why should they borrow from others? I mean that logic could apply to any character- It is a fighting game give them all punches. Sakurai stated he doesn't like doing that (hence giving megaman his mega buster instead of bunches and a charge shot for his smash.) I feel like its an opportunity lost unless you get to pick the moves (and some of the moves are from mii titles.) I feel like they shouldn't be average/a clone but should be unique. They are very different than other nintendo characters and their moves should reflect that.

I don't get all this Mii hate, it's amazing how people don't understand how big the Miis are and how big in Nintendo's history they are!

Exactly, this is why they deserve to be in the game. Mii haters may not like this, but what D-idara said is a fact. Miis are pretty much unrivalled in terms of characters important to Nintendo history that aren't already in Smash.

I think people blindly hate on Miis because it's cool to, or more specifically its cool to hate casual games.

Idont understand why some people are saying to make them templates when they already have so much UNIQUE moveset potential

I get making them copy cat characters would make them unique to Smash in a traditional fighting game sense, but I agree. They are unique already and stripping them of their characterization in other games is kinda... not what Smash is about. It plays off of their unique abilities.

Mii = Miyamoto, Reggie, Iwata, Harada, Suda 51, Kojima, and Shigisato Itoi in Smash.
Mii = Goku in Smash. :troll:

Being important doesn't mean people are obliged to like them. I'm indifferent on their inclusion - I don't particularly want to see them as any matter of urgency, but if they do get in then I'll understand why.

Naaaah I feel miis get boring. People are just going to be miis and not any other character. If they were going to add miis the would've added them brawl now it seems pointless. If you are using random character would it choose a random mii which seems like someone's property or if it chooses mii you have to choose who. If you are on classic or all star and against miis would it choose a random mii or would you choose the mii you're against No Support

Why will they? How fun Miis are to play as and what their moveset is like will decide how much Miis are used. If Miis are used a lot then it's obviously good their in the game since they're obviously well enough designed to make people want to play as them.

If they were going to add miis the would've added them brawl now it seems pointless.
No they wouldn't have. Brawl was released fairly early in the Wii's life, at the time Miis weren't that big a thing so it made sense for them not to be in. Since Brawl their significance has massively boomed so their far more likely now than they were for Brawl. Why is it pointless to add them? Their massive significance to has been gone over and over - that's a good point for them to be added. They can bring something no other character can by having a character completely customisable appearance allowing you to virtually play as yourself or any other person you base a Mii - there's another point to their inclusion.

If you are using random character would it choose a random mii which seems like someone's property or if it chooses mii you have to choose who. If you are on classic or all star and against miis would it choose a random mii or would you choose the mii you're against No Support
Can you really see this being so big a problem that it'd stop them being in the game? You could easily just select the Mii you want to use when the Mii is selected (whether you select it yourself or if the random button selects it for you), there's no reason either why you couldn't select the CPU's Mii if you decide to fight against one in VS mode or practice. When fighting a Mii in adventure, classic or all-star mode it could just be one of the Mii's saved in your Wii U/3DS selected at random - this would actually be very interesting visually in classic mode when fighting multi-man battles against Miis since each of the 10 Mii's could potentially be a different one of your Miis.

I got a list of moveset potential for the Miis right here so the Miis don't seem like a dry choice:

Miis:

Fencing
Bull Charge! FS?
Ping Pong
Billiards/Pool
Instrument (Brass Preferably?)
Toy Tanks
Dice
Ice Cream Tower
Stone Skipping
Reel In Diver
Frisbee
Basketball
Glider
Puzzle Swap
Find Mii (Sword +Magic)
Blaster
Miiverse Post (Funny/Clever customizable text?)

Didn't it have handgliders? I put that in there, if I'm wrong the little airplanes could be useful. All these moves would be a really cool "hardcore casual moveset". I wouldn't mind if Miis got in but I wouldn't care if they didn't make it.

Also the new Streetpass games like Mii Force, Warrior's Way, Flower Town and Monster Manor give the Miis more possible moveset inspiration.

Would make it a bit awkward if you were using a Hitler mii.

I don't have a huge opinion on miis, I feel like there are other older characters that deserve a place first...but I don't really mind if miis get in...apart from having dirty minded miis appear in online battles.

I would think you would only be able to use Miis in friend battles than regular online. That would be the logical choice.
