Since people like to vent about these games a lot and derail so many other topics, I'm hoping we can consolidate all that hatred in here.

Just remember, you can hate the games, but not the players. And you can't hate the players just for liking the game that you hate either.

If some sort of debate forms from all of this (and it inevitably will), try to give some reasoning behind your feelings. It'll probably lead you to the conclusion that people like different games for different reasons, and in the end it's all opinion.

Also note the "experiment" in the title. Myself or any of the other mods can kill this at anytime if it gets out of hand.

I'll start.

Melee is SO GAY.

I main Fox and Falco and whenever I play a Marth it's SO GAY he just hits me off the stage and then hits me a bunch more times and then I die. Sometimes Sheik will hit me and I'll just put my controller down, go get a beverage, and come back when the combo is done.

Also, Ice Climbers.

Melee is dead. Accept it.

Both games are fun, can't we let it off a that?

Except for DDD. DDD can suck one cause that character just blows.

And Kos-Mos and I actually met Brawl players that are legitimately good at Melee and did a lot of surprising things. So even though Brawl took a lot from Melee, we can still gain a bit from them.

Parody time!

Brawl is SO DUMB.

I main (whatever character, doesn't matter) and whenever I play a Meta Knight it's SO GAY he just hits me off the stage and then hits me a bunch of more times and then I die. Sometimes Snake will just jab->utilt me and I'll just put my controller down, go get a beverage, and come back when the **** is over.

Also, Dedede.

Brawl is alive. Accept it.

Doesn't "Brawl is alive. Accept it" go against the rest of the post, or am I just missing something really obvious?

Melee:

Fox and Falco's shines can both take a giant leap off of the ****-You-Falls. I hate how **** good that one stupid move is. This also includes Fox's up-smash.

Oh, and Marth's range is also pretty gay, and IC's Wobbling is bleh.

-----

Brawl:

As fun as it is to play Brawl...

I dislike how easy it is for Meta Knight players to hold control of a match just because the character is amazingly good at everything he does that doesn't involve living past 100% (at least against Snake and other various top tiers). Everything about Meta Knight is just wrong.

Dedede's chain grab is ridiculous.
ICs chaingrab is too good.
GaW's lag (or lack there-of) is absurd.
Snake's range and killing power is lame.
Olimar is stupid.
Falco is the most boring character to play against, period. They probably spam b-button more than crappy Meta Knight players.

Oh, and of course, tripping, but anyone could've told you that.

No, it's supposed to be a parody. I'm just poking fun at the original post. None of it was meant to be taken seriously...except the Meta and Snake parts. ;)

Melee- I love the fact that you can punish your opponent so hard for making even just a tiny mistake. I hate making tiny mistakes and losing a stock. I also dislike how the technical aspect of Melee discourages newer players from getting more involved in the scene since not only does it usually take a bit of practice to get a good tech level but some people just will not be able to get to that point even if they practice every day.

Brawl- I love how you can make a lot of mistakes in a match and still come out alright in the long run. I also like how relatively easy the game is to pick up. I hate only being able to punish my opponents mistakes with one hit or punishing all of my opponents mistakes but still losing. I also hate how dominant camping is in Brawl, it's the option that is clearly superior to approaching for the most part.

Drew - I can hate people for liking Brawl. Except Hylian, because he makes really compelling arguments, like "how can you not like Brawl?"

TiD - No, because Brawl is objectively boring?

Infinity - Did you ever like Melee?

DMG - What's a "tiny" mistake? At high level play in any worthwhile game, most mistakes are punished hard. That's the whole idea of high level play. Also, the technical aspect discourages new players because the series caters very hard to casuals. They think "oh, that's not a technique described in the 'how to play' video. That scares me." If a player from a community that plays a worthwhile fighter (not Brawl) decided to pick up Melee (unlikely, since no one, except smash players, likes smash), the fact that you have to learn to shffl and l-cancel would not discourage him from picking up the game. And anyone can become technically savvy in Melee, at least enough to play at a "professional" level. Maybe not with Fox or Falco, but there are characters that don't have flatland infinites or pillars, you know.

Why I like melee: My Peach is good. :D

It's on bear's account I think, and Brawl's not boring. DDD's boring, Falco vs Falco's boring, TX is boring, but Brawl's fun.

It's just cause it's so casual that is becomes fun.

Melee its a great game BUT atm i've been getting quite frustrated at this.

ccing has been around a long time, but here is the thing, players seem to keep getting better and better at it.

its absolutely absurd how space animals samus and peach can cc so well lol, especially spacies. i play marth and my friend literally double sticks everything. i think it was around 110ish that he was double sticking and i faired him with the tip, he took it like a champ, then fsmashed me lol.

that is stupid lol.

this is the most ridiculous part, i played the same guy and he was playing marth as i was playing fox. as we were playing i was going for drill+waveshine+ grab. Well, this time he double sticked so HARD that he teched it ROFL, this happened 2 times. i officially declared it was pal because i've never seen it before but played once again on the same copy and asked him not to press anything and he simply slid just like normal.

DI and SDI combined are absolutely NUTS.

I actually have to agree, CC is becoming a huge part of today's Melee metagame... and it is pretty **** annoying! Getting punished for approaching/attacking... sounds like Brawl to me . Dunno what to say, lol.

Alot of people like brawl more because it is easier than melee. I am one of those people kinda, i LOVE melee alot more i just suck at it. I can also understand where people say brawl is boring. I cant watch brawl matches at all, i can only play in them. Ask anyone here, have you ever seen me watch the grandfinals of a brawl tourny i was at? nope, i played friendlies instead

Caveman saw me one day constantly walking over to the melee side to watch some matches even tho i was in the brawl tourny.

I dont hate brawl, i "kinda" like it enough to play it competitively

I watch and keep up with the SC proscene quite a bit.

Chang also likes starcraft.... I think Sethlon plays some, I'm not too sure who else in TX does though. I'm trying to get more SA peeps into it though.

It seems most smash players that I see on the boards that play starcraft are all Zerg players for some reason.

Think of it like this:

High level chess. In melee, one mistake would translate into, say a rook being captured or possibly the game being already lost from your position. In Brawl, the same mistake (mispacing a Fair with Marth for example) would translate into a pawn or maybe just a knight being captured, with good chances in the overall long haul.

Melee has been out for long enough that you are either more than competent with tech skill or you are just getting into the game. When the game first came out, there were a lot of people in between, and since more people were interested in the game when it came out there were usually more people for someone who was new to play without getting completely crushed, or basically more people around the beginning skill level. At this point though, a newer player would more than likely have to play people that have played the game for 3+ years at the least. Brawl will get to this point to, and probably sooner than Melee, but right now it's not at that point since it's relatively young.

And I was just making a double standard for both games: I want to kill people without being killed lol. I want to kill fast in Melee while not dying fast, and I want to live long in Brawl and make sure my enemies don't live long.

DMG, I think you're overstating the amount of punishment one receives for a "tiny" mistake in Melee.

Also, I think I breezed over the inkling of satire in your post. >_> Still, you're wrong about people being incapable of picking up Melee. Anyone can play Melee at a high level (from a technical standpoint), as long as they don't pick Fox or Falco (and possibly Falcon). Those characters are considerably harder to perform basic techs with, but characters like Marth, Sheik, Peach, Jigglypuff, etc. don't require a lot of tech skill. Like I said, smash caters to non-competitive scrubs, so the majority of people interested in competing in smash are "incapable" of learning the advanced techs. They're physically capable of doing it, of course, but their casual mind-set prevents them from doing it.

Yeah, Oklahoma is mostly Zerg.

It's cause Jaedong's the ****ing best.

And Falcon's one of the hardest characters in the game to seriously pick up and do well, no joke. And I think all melee characters are "hard" to pick up in high level, but it's like what you said. Just cause it's a Nintendo game, people kinda have this mindset of "I don't need that" or "I don't want to put time to do that." It's that mentality that sort of kills part of our scene.

Yeah JD's probably the best and when I started watching vids I normally watched his but I like July more now cause he's a beast. Starting to like Savior now too. (I watch all vids now _;; )

Once you get L-canceling down with Falcon I don't think he's too bad.
In order of easiest to pick up and do well, for melee, I'd say it's Puff, Peach, Sheik. Or if you just want to practice techskill in your basement nonstop for awhile and not really learn to outsmart your opponent then I'd say Falco.

Sakuri or whatever said brawl wasn't supposed to be competive

brawl: makes me sleepy and it's boring.

melee: keeps me awake and i enjoy playing losing or not.

take the blue pill and realize brawl is not the future this is a lie

take the red pill and you will go futher down into the rabbit hole. and you will experice melee.

Kal, I'm not saying people are incapable of getting that tech skill down (only a few cannot reach that level due to actual physical restraints), I mean like what Sars said, that people don't wanna put in the time to get to that level. It's more of the person's fault than the game's fault, but it also would be a smaller issue with less tech skill to master.

Well the tech skill does matter some in melee but not really as much as people think...
As long as you're good you'll do good against lesser players even without the tech skill.
See Broly, he wrecked all over quite a few of Texas' best.

I guess melee even without tech skill is still to hard to pick up for people though...

It moves to fast for people to register in their head....which is why Brawl was made slower and easier to follow

And you really have to suck a lot to fall for CCing enough to start complaining about it lol there are other ways to approach
