Prologue Part I:
In a time before Mario & Luigi were born, most of the Mario world was at peace, with the majority of the globe under Toadstool rule in the country called the Mushroom Kingdom, also known as the Eight United Nations, that had some portions acquired through alliances, others through the conquering of violent neighbors. One of these territories, notoriously known by the codename World 8, contained a large community of the nation's Goombas, Koopa Troopas, and other non-Toad races, and due to the amount of war debt amounting in the Mushroom Kingdom from fighting and taking over this region resulted in the taxation of these people. Although they were the reason the war began, when they smashed down a statue of the King Toadstool, the Koopa Minions, as they came to be called, were growing quite resentful of their domination by the humans and toads . . . .
Prologue Part II:
After the original leaders of the Koopa Minions from before the war had been banished, they left their son with their most trusted lieutenant, Kamek, who vowed revenge for the disgrace held by his king and queen. Being a skillful and intelligent admiral, Kamek knew that any resistance directly against the Mushroom Kingdom was futile, so he decided that he must try to reestablish Koopanese domination elsewhere, and a small peaceful island due South of the mainland, claimed to be a land that two of the greatest heroes their world has ever seen will emerge (and become widely known for their mustaches), was what he had his eye on.
After much hidden preperation, Kamek took several of his forces and easily conquered the isle, which was home of the Yoshis. The Yoshis were a peaceful race, and did not wish to fight and so agreed to being taken over, believing that the Mushroom Kingdom would eventually hear about their capture and come to their rescue, but after months and months, no reply came, and the Yoshis became saddened by there seemingly terrible luck. One day though, a stork carrying two babies, one with a red hat and another with a green, was flying towards the Mushroom Kingdom when he was ambushed by Kamek, who had figured the tale was about two humans (considering there were few races that could have mustaches) and managed to snatch one of the babies, although he thought he swiped both in the interception, as he knocked the stork out of the sky for his minions to restrain. On the isle, one of the Yoshis, in fact the leader of the Yoshis, was taking a stroll, when he was hit in the head by a baby and a map! Yoshi was very puzzled by the baby's sudden appearance and the map, which seemed to indicate a route that goes past Yoshi's Island, not to it, so he took the baby and map to his tribesmen to discuss the mystery.
The Yoshis were all distressed by the appearance of this baby with an M on his hat, who they were certain could not be possibly from their land and was certainly lost. However, in mid-discussion one of the Yoshis noticed on the map that there should be two babies, not one, and that the baby they did have with them was steadily facing towards the center of the island, as if he sensed the presence of his brother. Knowing exactly what to do, the lead Yoshi took the baby on his back and told his fellow Yoshis. "Our current rulers must have done something to cause this baby to appear, they're surely looking for it at this very moment and we must not let them find him! However, our colors give away our positions and would make us easy targets if we kept carrying the baby for long periods of time, so we must constantly transfer the baby to one another for his own safety!" he said to them, and so the group of Yoshis began to trek through the lands, managing to find a friend and ally in the form of a dog along the way, destroying fortress after castle after fortress, even after being constantly harrased by Kamek's magical forces, and eventually made it to the main castle, a castle with the name "Bowser" on it.
After a long battle so fierce that the castle was left in ruins, Kamek and the child in his custody, who we all call Bowser today, fled the scene vowing revenge. The lead Yoshi then freed the baby with a green hat and the stork, who thanked Yoshi and promptly flew away with both of the babies. Yoshi returned to his home tribal grounds with a satisfied feeling in himself, and celebrated with the other Yoshis the freedom of their isle from Kamek's rule. Later that evening, the stork approached a small village on the outskirts of the mainland, and left both of the babies at the footstep of the home of their parents, who gratefully took care of them for years to come.
Several months later, lots of rejoicing occured with the announcment that a new heir to the throne had been born, a princess named Peach. The kingdom was overjoyed that another generation of the Toadstool line had appeared, and for weeks on end citizens celebrated. After a few weeks, after the excitement calmed and the Mario world was having a seemingly normal day again, nothing seemed different at all and everything felt peaceful, but one night, hundreds of babies were taken from their homes by members of the Koopa troop, searching for the seven star children, babies that were born with an extraordinary source of power in the form of a star. It was unknown who was the perpetraitor was, since they were not heading to Baby Bowser's castle (which had been rebuilt after Kamek managed to quitely return to his well hidden base in the non-yoshi-inhabited center of the isle), but that did not stop the stork from returning to intercept several of the kidnappers, managing to miraculously rescue both Baby Mario and Baby Peach without injury. After the Yoshis saw many of the babies being carried by flying minions, known as Toadies to them, they began searching the island for victims needing rescuing, when one of them found both Mario and Peach.
After several nights of searching, most of the Yoshis returned to their village suprised that they found so few babies, besides Mario and Peach, they only found one with a big nose and a little ape. They were debating who was possibly behind this when one of the Yoshis claimed to see a magikoopa snatching Baby Bowser away from another Magikoopa, who he suspected was Kamek from the screams of dismay. The Yoshis were shocked, what magikoopa could possibly defy Kamek, their leader, in such a way? They deduced this must be the work of an unknown force and proceeded to scope Yoshi's Island for clues. They checked fortresses and castles they were sure weren't there before, appearing as if by magic, and fought monsters affected by spells generated from the mysterious other magikoopa, who the Yoshis figured must have been an outcasted brother of Kamek due to his similar appearance and voice. As they traveled onward, they found none other than Baby Bowser plummeting out of the sky, who seemed very angry. Baby Bowser began to yell to the Yoshis that an older version of himself and Kamek had dumped him after kidnapping him and had headed towards his castle, while his caretaker was flying away from the isle in sadness from his seemingly permanent loss. Figuring that these mysterious people from the future were the culprits of all the baby-snatchings, they agreed with Baby Bowser to head to his castle together, so that they could rescue the babies and get Baby Bowser's castle back to it's "rightful owner". After getting through most of the castle, Baby Bowser accused one of the yoshis of stealing some of his stolen loot and battled the lead Yoshi, he was no match however and so Yoshi quickly got to the top of the castle, where older Kamek and Bowser were waiting and the stolen babies were hidden.
Using Kamek's power, Bowser grew to enormous proportions, seemingly ready to destroy the Yoshis for good, but using teamwork and good aim they defeated him, sending him back to to his time period along with Kamek, who were thwarted in their attempt to get the star children. The Yoshis left Baby Bowser at the castle knocked out, and with the stork's help returned all of the babies to their parents, except for Wario, who decided to live with some bandits, and Baby DK, who's clan could not be found on any known island discovered. Since he seemed to really like playing with Baby Mario and Luigi, the stork decided that he should go to the Mushroom Kingdom to live in the forests around Mario and Luigi's hometown, and took all three back to the village where the two brother's parents were worried sick. Happily reunited with their children, and unaware of the ape sleeping in the tree in the front yard, the family went back to their home for dinner. The Yoshis pondered whether beating up Baby Bowser and leaving him by himself was a good idea, but eventually forgot about him. Baby Bowser however, was furious. He couldn't find Kamek anywhere who was his primary source of dishing out rage on, and the only things that Kamek left behind were a few toys, a green ghost, and a spellbook . . .
After a couple of months, the Yoshi tribe was prosperous, with eight new eggs soon to hatch into the world, when the ground started to change colors and all Yoshis were swept away in a strong wind, with the island becoming a giant book! Six of the eggs stayed in place during the event, not moving an inch while the Yoshis were sucked into the sky (one of them hit the other two of the eggs down a slope on his way upwards).
It seemed that Baby Bowser had figured out how to use magic! But the spell, besides turning the island into a book and sweeping away all the Yoshis, (but not the Yoshi eggs), also uprooted a tree important to Yoshi health. Shortly after the cataclysmic event occured, six of the eggs hatched, leading to several baby yoshis being sad, hungry, and seemingly alone in the world, but Poochy, the dog the adult Yoshis found before, helped them follow the scent of the adult Yoshis, and accidentally found the two missing baby Yoshis along the trip, to Baby Bowser's castle, where they battled him and his scary pet. Though frightened, they threw bob-ombs at Baby Bowser, who was thrown into the stratosphere from the explosion, and rescued the tree and all of the other Yoshis. Happily reunited with their extended family the Yoshis settled down and went back to their peaceful ways. Kamek later brought himself together and returned to Yoshi's Island, where he was reunited with Baby Bowser and built a new castle with him.
Not too many days after the reuniting of the Yoshi tribe, a loud whirring was heard in the air. Large UFOs appeared and dropped a gigantic egg on the Island. Not knowing what it could possibly be, the Yoshis kept an eye on it, but these UFOs were not as "kind" to the other lands. The Mushroom Kingdom was bombed heavily with lasers and the castle was overtaken by the Shroobs, aliens riding the UFOs, and all seemed lost, who would save the world from these mysterious people?
Well, as it turns out, the people's future were in the hands of people from the future. A man named Elvin Gadd, who was an inventor even before the babies were born, eventually discovered how to create time travel. The time machine he made sent the adult Princess Peach to the unfortunate time when the Shroobs attacked, and ripped the fabric of the space-time continuum so that mysterious "time holes" appeared, which could be used to travel back-and-forth from the time that Peach went to and the time where Mario and Luigi are grown-up. When the time machine broke down after one use, Mario and Luigi used the warp holes to travel to the past, where they found their younger selves in Baby Bowser's [new] Castle, where they found out that Baby Bowser performed a barely unsuccesful raid of the main castle, which had been named Peach's Castle in honor of the youngster of the same name, and decided to save them since he wanted to be the one to destroy the babies without any outside assistance. Mario and Luigi then took the babies and went around their past kingdom. The Mario bros of both present and future went to Yoshi's Island, where they discovered the egg hatched into a giant Yoshi-eating monster, a Yoob, and were eaten themselves. Along with the eaten Yoshis' assistance, the Mario Bros managed to defeat the giant monster by giving it fatal constipation. After killing the Yoob, the Mario Bros discovered that Bowser tripped into the past also, and had teamed up with Baby Bowser in order to battle the Mario Bros, which resulted in the prevalence of the Mario Bros.
Shortly afterward they ended up getting sucked into the Shroob mothership where they beat all of the aliens to a pulp using their agility and cunning, and rescued the kingdom from certain doom. Peach, who was captured directly after the time travel along with two of her friends (who were found before the Mario Bros fought Bowser, but aren't very relevant so they didn't deserve their own sentence) and the adults returned to their own time along with Bowser. All of the timeholes eventually disappeared, except for one inside a hidden alcove of the castle, which Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, and all of the other babies would sneak into to join their olderselves in athletic sports, which is what babies normally do anyway.
After having their house burst into flames from a Shroob attack, the constant disappearance of their children, and the shear amount of banana skins they kept finding on their property, Mario and Luigi's parents decided that the Mushroom Kingdom wasn't safe and decided to go back to the magical city that has no crime, violence, or illegal aliens riding noisy vehicles, Brooklyn, New York.
Using the Warp Zone, a region in the Mushroom Kingdom with pipes to every location in the universe, they traveled through a pipe that ended up in a forest just outside of New York, and subsequently took a taxi to the land where the two parents had been married in. Baby DK loved to follow the Mario Bros everywhere, and had secretly followed the family through a pipe, thinking he'd still be able to play with his friends, but was quickly captured by Animal Control officiers and was thrown into the Bronx Zoo, where for years he was kept by himself and had peanuts thrown at him by obnoxious tourists, which scarred him for life and built up a rage inside him that lasted for over a decade. He contemplated how he would escape, until one day the zookeeper forgot to lock his cage . . . .
Chapter 5: The Not So Good Life
After Mario returned to Brooklyn, he lived a relatively normal life, and was one of the most intelligent students in his school classes. Deciding that he should use his smarts for something, he went to college where he got a PhD in Teaching, Art, and Medicine. Unfortunately, Mario couldn't find a place that would hire him even with the degrees, so he rented a location to run an Italian Cuisine shop. However, while he loved eating Italian food, he and his brother weren't overly spectacular at cooking and thus didn't obtain enough money to pay the bills, so Mario went to work at a Cement Factory for a secondary job. It payed well, but one day he accidentally let the cement overflow and it fell on his boss, who had been in a cement truck which was docked for loading underneath Mario's platform. Mario then jumped in between different jobs, varying from being a referee to a circus juggler to being a semi-professional golfer. After seeing an advertisement for a local "F1" race that provided vehicles and a prize to anyone who wished to enter, Mario decided to join the race and managed to win. Recognizing his talent, a team owner gave him a race contract and the Mario brothers moved to Japan, where he then found his true gift, yep that's right, being a open-wheel racer. In his rookie season he won every race on the schedule and became famous throughout Japan, home of the Famicom Grand Prix, where he became a minor celebrity. Unfortunately, the series was instable and lost it's manufacture support, so a year after Mario's domination they switched to Rally cars. Mario and his brother Luigi teamed up in a red car and managed to win several races, until it was discovered that the owners of the Famicom Grand Prix were arrested for copyright infringement on the use of "F1", which is an exclusive trademark to Formula 1, resulting in the liquidation of the series. After returning back to Brooklyn, Luigi spent most of the money in casinos, his true love, which upset Mario, since he told Luigi not to gamble. To make matters worse, they forgot to pay the restaurant's rent for the entire time, resulting in them paying a heavy fine, leaving them with little money afterward. Mario and Luigi became depressed since they knew they wouldn't be able to pay for the bills at this rate, and sat down at one of the tables in their empty restaurant and began to drink coffee and look at the news. Luigi was shocked by the headlines on the paper, "Gorilla escapes a New York City zoo" and told his brother to come and look. According to the paper, the zookeeper ended up leaving the cage unlocked and the ape became free and also unlocked another gorilla's cage which reportedly contained his girlfriend.
Chapter 6: Apes and Girls don't mix.
Once free, Donkey Kong and the other ape, Wrinkly, split up in an attempt to escape the city and thwart attempts at capture. Not being used to being on the streets, Donkey Kong ended up crashing into a greenhouse. After shaking off the impact he felt a little hungry, so he tried to get honey out of some of the bee hives which had made nests near the ceiling when Stanley the Bugman ran in after hearing the crashing glass. Not having much to shoo the giant ape away with, he was forced to spray Donkey Kong with a bugspray. Annoyed by the noxious fumes, Donkey Kong escaped the greenhouse and never saw Stanley again.
Eventually he and Wrinkly met up again in the woodlands outside of the NYC limits, and decided to try and start a family within an uninhabited area of the forest. They ended up having twins, one with brown fur and another with pink, and remained unseen for a few years. Not much was known about where they were, although reports of a hairy being stealing two child-sized shirts brought up suspicion on the whereabouts of the apes.
Several months passed, and Mario eventually found a job in the plumbing business which managed to get his life back into order. He didn't find the job to be his life-long dream, he loved athletics, but it payed well so he tried to stick to it as long as possible. Eventually, he fell in love with one of his clients, Pauline, and the two began dating. The two became near inseperable, constantly eating together, and Pauline even liked Mario's cooking! (either that or she didn't want to hurt his feelings) One night they strolled down main street and Luigi teased them by saying "so when are you two going to get married?" Mario and Pauline denied they were ready to do anything of the sort, and embarrasedly strolled down New York City. Meanwhile . . . .
Donkey Kong was frustrated, he had a hatred toward humankind after the encagement he had to deal with for most of his life, and was plotting revenge. His two sons, Donkey Kong the Second and Mondo Kong (who were busy playing together with a little math game their father played with them all the time) were preoccupied when Donkey Kong walked up to Wrinkly and told her what he would be doing. She pleaded and cried for him not to go, but he ran off, leaving the two boys and their mother baffled in the woods. Donkey Kong was smarter than your average ape, and knew a lot about the human culture, and jumped into the back of an idle trailer to hide. The truck driver returned to the vehicle unaware of the animal in his cargo and proceeded to drive into New York City.
Pauline and Mario were busy talking about their future, since they could not stop thinking about it ever since Luigi brought it up, not noticing the truck at the red light nearby, and proceed to joke around with each other. Donkey Kong was starting to wonder if revenge was the right answer, but bad memories of humans were constantly going through his mind while he pondered what to do, until he heard a familiar voice. Mario was laughing loudly at one of Pauline's jokes and had caught the hearing of Donkey Kong through the walls of the truck, which finally made him snap. DK ripped open the back of the truck, roared, and before Pauline knew what was happening, picked her up and headed to a nearby construction site intending to kill the woman. Mario fell on his knees, not knowing what to do, when he realized how much he loved Pauline, and got up, filled with rage. He picked up a mallet near the entrance to the site, and with an angered heart proceeded to get in the construction area.
Chapter 7: Passion is Power
Mario climbed up several girders and managed to dodge barrel-after-barrel in order to reach his girlfriend who had been pulled up to the top of the structure. Once up there he managed to grab her hand and save her from Donkey Kong, who lost his balance and caused the whole place to collapse from his weight. Miraculously, the only one hurt was him, as Mario and Pauline managed to safely land on the ground. Seemingly over, Mario and Pauline stared at each other romantically, but Donkey Kong wasn't finished yet, and once again grabbed Pauline. Mario was able to keep pace with Donkey Kong, but kept having trouble due to some of the obstacles DK created, such as broken bridges. Meanwhile, Donkey Kong Jr. had silently sneaked out of his mother's site and managed to accidentally meet up with his father. The two fled from Mario's wrath with Pauline and headed up and down the country side trying to keep Mario at bay. After reaching a tall mountain Mario finally cornered the two, and after locking the younger ape, ensued in an epic battle, where Donkey Kong grew to an enormous size using special mushrooms he found there. Mario managed to dodge his crushing attacks and, after the mushrooms' effects wore off, locked him up too. DK Jr saw his father was getting locked up and pulled out a paper clip from his belly button which he used to pick his lock and escape. Pauline thanked Mario heavily for saving her again, and he towed Donkey Kong's cage down the mountain. When he reached Jr's cage though, he jumped when he realized the ape inside had escaped, and told Pauline to run back home since he feared the worst and that Donkey Kong might be freed. Unfortunately, it proved true and Donkey Kong Jr. managed to get his father out several times. However, the battle had left Donkey Kong battered and bruised and he was no match for Mario's re-capturing efforts. Donkey Kong Jr. eventually sadly gave up his attempts to free his father knowing it was futile, and sobbingly fled back to his brother and mother.
Mario was extremely ticked, he had a giant ape in tow who had attacked his girlfriend, and he had wasted several days getting him back near New York City. Before entering the limits though, he glared at Donkey Kong with a firey look and smirked, and pulled him over to a nearby circus, where he got a job to whip the ape into doing humiliating tricks like playing hockey or juggling on a ball. Mario had told Pauline to come see the show, but when she came she was appalled at how much Mari had changed, feeling he had become cruel and almost evil, and that she felt that he wasn't the man she fell in love with. Mario was shocked with dibelief on how Pauline could not love what he was doing, punishing the animal who had attacked her, and was even more flabbergasted when she said their relationship was through. Mario then looked at Donkey Kong and wondered what had gone wrong with his life, and after ponderring for a few days, decided to quit the circus so he could take care of Donkey Kong and eventually set him free. Donkey Kong was still bitter towards humans, but the change of heart from his captor in the months before his freedom resulted in him having a slight form of respect towards people, if not that much.
Chapter 8: The Lost and the Unknown?
Shocked, Luigi was suprised Mario had done something so unlike his usual self, and told his brother to take a few days off from plumbing to walk in the then snow-covered woodlands, and that he would join him. On one of their travels through the forest, Mario and Luigi noticed four sets of ape tracks in the snow off a pathway and followed them. When they followed them around a rocky mount, the two brothers were shocked to notice a gigantic pipe at the end of the tracks. Mario and Luigi cautiously approached the pipe, when they were sucked in! Mario and Luigi fainted from the experience and woke up in a sewer populated by crabs, flies, and turtles. The critters didn't seem overly hostile, but after almost getting bit by one of them, the brothers picked up some rubber balls they found to use for self-defense just in case. They slowly made their way through the sewer, occasionally slipping on some of the ice-coated platforms, other times picking up change they found on the ground, and eventually climbed their way up to an opening in the side of a canyon. Looking around, and clearly realizing that they were nowhere near New York now, the two stepped out and sniffed the fresh air. Mario had noticed there was a strong smell of smoke when he was turned by Luigi to look at a horrific, explosive, and fiery sight at the edge of their view.
Chapter 9: The Mushroom Kingdom Civil War
Mario and Luigi walked to the side of the cliff they were on and watched as groups of troops that contained mostly little men in white hats scrambled to dodge little walking bombs that were following them. Mario turned to his brother exclaiming "What in the world is going on?", but of course Luigi had no idea either. Inching along the wall, the two watched as the little guys fled the incoming tanks and flying ships. "Aren't those tanks made of wood? They should have burned by now!", Luigi said, and Mario had to agree, replying "this place is just unbelievable! Yet it all seems familiar . . . " "LOOK OUT!!!!" Luigi managed to grab his brother in time to barely pull him out of the way of a giant truck-sized bullet which crashed right where they were standing! The explosion caused the rocky platform they were on to collapse, and both Mario and Luigi fell to the ground unconscious . . . .
Waking up in a tent, Mario sat up and to his surprise was surrounded by people he never had met! Mario was startled, but one of the smaller individuals told him there was no need to worry as he was in an infirmary far away from the battlefield now. "Who are you?", Mario asked. "My name is Toad! And these are some of the members of our medical brigade, this is Toad, Toad, Toad, Toad, Toad, my sister Toadette who is your nurse for the day, and my brother Toad!" Mario looked at the strange short people who were staring at him, then Toad replied, "When I first saw you and that other guy, I knew you probably needed some help, so my friends and I got you here lickity-split! It's a good thing I'm stronger than I look . . ." All of the sudden a loud yelp came out of the tent nearby. "LUIGI! Is he alright?" "That guy with the green hat? Yeah he's fine, he just has a scrape on his elbow, that's all". Relieved, Mario asked what he had saw was. "You really don't know? You really must not be from around these parts, I guess I'll tell you then. It's terrible, the Mushroom Kingdom is breaking apart! Many of the parts of the country are starting to break free violently! It's all that Bowser's fault . . . . " Mario thought to himself, "Bowser, why does that name sound-a familiar?" then exclamied, "So what did he do? and why is this country at war with itself?" "Oh it's a long story filled with tragedy, villany, and sadness, do you still want to hear about it?" "Well . ." "OF COURSE YOU DO! LET ME START!"
A few months ago, everything was at peace, but one day, a Koopa Troopa questioned our Queen's royalty, claiming that at 3'1" she was too short to possibly be a human, as the royal bloodline doctrine, which had existed for centuries, requires of all kings and queens. Most of the citizens passed it off as a rumor, until it was discovered that the queen's mother was a Toad! The king quickly sided with his wife that she was indeed human, but unfortunately the Mushroom Parliament reluctantly decided that it was true and that the queen must be banished due to the breach of the doctrine, but they ruled that their daughter, who was as tall as her father, could stay as she had taken mostly after him. Regardless, King Toadstool was driven into insanity due to the banishment of his queen and made many absurd demands to his people, who ended up revolting due to the assistance of Bowser, who had came to try to rally up the people to start a war. Unfortunately for us, he was succesful, and eight different groups are now breaking free from this country, including Bowser's. To make matters worse, Bowser has convinced a gang of humans to become arsenalists, igniting many of our fortresses by sneak attacks. So we need all the help we can get in trying to stop them, so some of us were wondering, since we need some new troops and all, could you please help us in our fight? I know you're probably a visitor and don't want to be part of this but . . . *snore* . . . ARE YOU LISTENING?!?!?
Mario woke up with a start, "Wha? Oh yes!" "So you'll do it?" "Sure, do what?" "GREAT! Here's your uniform, you'll be sent to one of our battle points in the middle of the unnamed tropical jungles to the south. Now just hop into the back of this truck and go!", Toad said hurridly as he pushed Mario, beginning to get him in the back of the vehicle. "But I . . . " *Slam* "SO LONG!". . . .
"Uh, Toad?" "Yeah Toadette?" "We're not going to be seeing that person ever again are we?" "Nope, not in a million years"
"Oh great! What did I get myself into this-a time . . ." As Mario got out he accidentally bumped into a large muscular man, who looked at him and said, "Good day soldier, because it will probably be your last! Mah name's General Spike, and your first duty is to relay these bombs over to the other side, let your fellow soldier grab and throw them into those trees to blow up the arsenalists, and dodge the torches of your enemies while avoiding the sparks from the cigarettes one of your team keeps dropping onto a precisely placed stream of oil that you will be standing on! (Which leads to our wooden fort by the way)" Mario jumped, "YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING? Why are you letting him smoke there? He could cause an explosion!" "Now sonny, dramatic effect makes everything better! Now move!"
"Okey Dokey, Mario, you can do this . . . . I just have to keep calm and RUN AS FAST AS I CAN!!!!!!" Before he knew it, Mario got five bombs across the trail safely, and the troop of aresnalists were all caught in the explosion and were injured in a non-lethal cartoony way. "Congrats soldier! You've managed to get these enemies caught! Now we can get them behind bars!" "Hey general, what do I do with this bomb?" *one of the other soldiers cigarettes lights the fuse* "HURRY AND TAKE IT AWAY SOLDIER! I DIDN'T MEAN TOWARDS THE FORT!" *explosion*
Chapter 10: For better or for worse?
"Well if it isn't the guy with the red hat again! We thought you never would have come back! Luigi is feeling better now if you want to see him, or maybe he should see you . . . ." Mario's brother came over, gasping and asking what happened to him. "Wish I could have been there! That sounds fun Mario!" "Not really . . . ." "MARIO! LUIGI! Come! There's terrible news!" Mario and Luigi then exited the tent to hear what the commotion was about, and found out that several of the royal guardians and the Princess had been kidnapped and were in another castle! After much dismay by the group about what would happen to her, Mario decided to rescue the princess himself. Toad was sure that the princess-napping was Bowser's doing, but he had been constantly moving back and forth between eight of the castles he had already captured (not to mention countless forts), and they were unsure which one he was using to keep Princess Peach hostage. Mario figured that he had no choice but to simply go to each castle in order to find her and her servants. Luigi wanted to come too so he joined Mario on their quest through many locales.
The brothers soon discovered on their journey that grabbing small glowing flowers gave them the power to hurl fireballs! Using the skill to good use, they reclaimed fortress after fortress until they reached their first castle. Mario told Luigi to stand guard in order to make sure that no enemies cornered them from the outside while he explored the castle, and found dangerous balls of leaping lava and spinning bars of fire that he had to avoid in the corridors, until he came up to a monster! He threw fireball-after-fireball at it, only to discover that it was merely a costume with a small creature in it that fell into the lava. After looking at where the creature fell for a moment, Mario walked across the bridge and found a gigantic axe! He tried to grab it, but it was far too heavy and merely tipped over, breaking the bridge! He deduced he could use this tactic in the future as a way to defeat other monsters he came across, and imagined how epicly manly that would look in a film, but then remembered he had to rescue the princess, so he walked over to a bound bag and opened it. However, it was merely a servant that was in the bag, but Mario was still happy that he mananged to rescue someone at least, the servant told Mario that the princess was in another castle, so he left the castle with Luigi and ended up going through yet another six castles and destroying the decoys within, rescuing other royal servants they discovered, then they eventually made their way to the final castle, which was bigger than the others. Mario entered the courtyard of the castle as quietly as he could, but several Goombas and Hammer Bros discovered him so he dispatched them with a few balls of fire, and proceeded to enter the main portion of the castle. Mario noticed this castle had much more powerful magic coursing through it, with long corridors that sent him right back to the beginning of them and firebars able to stay lit under water, but he stayed strong and finally encountered Bowser. After a fierce and firey fight, Mario eventually managed to use his fire powers to push Bowser off the side of the bridge that he was standing on, and ran towards the cage that was hidden conveniently offscreen.
After managing to jump into the cage, which apparently was not very well designed since the bars were about 5 feet apart from each other, Mario saw a blonde staring out one of the windows and was wearing a crown, he finally found her! The princess turned around to see who had rattled her cage to see atall, sexy, Itallian hunk! Overjoyed that someone had rescued her, she flung her arms around Mario and kissed him several times, much to the plumbers pleasure, and looked at him, asking, "Who are you?" "It's a me! Mario!" "Well it's nice to meet you Itzamee" "No, hahaha my names Mario! I just have a wii bit of an accent" "Ah, I see, you can call me Princess Toadstool" "A pleasure to be of service Princess Toadstool, now lets go back to your Castle!"
As Mario, Princess Toadstool, and a jealous Luigi walked home, they told Peach, I mean Princess Toadstool, about their journey and the perils that they went through in order to rescue her. The princess found the story very interesting, either that or he was looking into Mario'sgorgeous eyes, and slowly went down the long road to the castle together.
Chapter Eleven: All is not Won
After Mario, Luigi, and the princess made it to the castle, many of the townsmen in the area cheered! But unfortunately it wasn't for long, as a Toad came running to the princess to tell her terrible news, "Bowser's troops have started capturing the other groups! Even though they broke free from us, they are being terrorized by the Koopas! Should we do anything? (Oh please say no, I can't run like this anymore!)" After thinking about it for a moment, Peach turned towards the people looking at her and said, "While some of you may think they deserve to this treatment for their betrayal, they were once citizens like you too, so we'll assist them against our now common enemy, BOWSER!" In the mix of much cheering by the crowd, Peach asked Mario oif he'd be willing to help them. Mario agreed, and after talking with Luigi, the two brothers set off to help the other kingdoms.
After quickly getting to the closest land, called Grass Land due to the fact that an official name had not been established yet, Mario and Luigi discovered a special leaf that could give them the powers of the mythical Tanooki, a furry creature who legend had it could fly. Using it's powers to quickly get to a fort they spotted, Mario went in while Luigi once again kept guard of the entrance. Inside many perils, including walking skeletons and strange metal discs that constantly spun around magnets, yet seemed unaffected by gravity, dwelled. Despite the fact Mario felt disturbed by their presence, he pressed on and made it over a large lava pit to a door. Inside he saw a ball of spikes, thinking it was just an odd-looking decoration, Mario searched for a means to destroy the castle, only to turn around and see it move towards him with arms flailing! Mario stomped on the koopa-like spiky creature once, thinking that would defeat it like a normal koopa, only to discover it just shielded itself with spikes to block more attacks! Mario noticed it had a weakness though, it could only shield it's head when it wasn't moving! So he patiently waited three seconds for the creature to get up again and stomped it's head a second time. It apparently wasn't too bright though, since it didn't take long for it to get up again, but this time it was running much faster! Mario still managed to stomp on it's head again, and after moaning, disappeared in an explosion of magic, leaving an orb. Mario was fearful that this creature, which he called Boom-Boom since it left in an explosion and he didn't know what else to call it, had left some kind of bomb, so he fled back to the last room he was in. While taking a breather from running, he looked up and saw a door near the top of a high balcony, and figured he'd use one of his "Racoon Leaves" (as he called them) to fly up there and went into the door up there. He wasn't paying attention though, and fell about two stories until the floor below. A little dazed from the impact Mario shook his head and noticed an unlocked treasure chest, which opened to reveal a beautifully carved whistle. Mario wasn't a good music player, and blew a horrid sounding note on it, which caused the fort to start to collapse! Running as fast as he could, he barely made it out in one piece, much to Luigi's relief. Both of them stared at the obviously powerful whistle and wondered what it could possibly be for, but were too fearful to try playing it again, saving it to be asked about later. After travelling for a while, they saw two beings in the distance. Thinking they were friendly folk, the two brothers walked up to them, only to realize they were one (or two I should say) of the enemy! Even though their hammer throwing ability was powerful, the two hammer bros were no match for the two MARIO bros and fled, leaving behind a chest one of them was carrying, which was found to contain suits and hammers! Mario stored the suits in a safe place with a Toad he knew that happened to live in the area and proceeded to the castle. Since the two brothers (although mostly Mario since he did the rescuing of Princess Toadstool) were known in the kingdom, and were allowed access to the inside of the throne room, but to their great surprise the king had been changed into an animal!
Meanwhile, Bowser was talking over plans with Kamek on Yoshi's Island. "Yes Master, so far everything is going according to plan! The rain will flood the island, submerging the Yoshi Village! If we can drown those filthy lizards, we'll have full reign over this most wanted territory of ours! Which will go nicely with the land acquired by your young ones! And to make it easier, I've cursed all of that green dinosaur's friends into thinking they work for me, erm, I mean us!" "Excellent! I can just imagine what my empire will look like! It's a shame Clawdia could not see what is happening today" "She was a good woman" "It's a shame her love for fried poison mushrooms was the end of her, I'll never forgive that boneheaded cook for not cooking them properly! Good thing I burnt him to a crisp."
Chapter Twelve: Blue Skies
The Yoshi clan were watching from underneath several palm trees the torrent of rain that was falling. "This is not normal rain", said the lead Yoshi, "We've never had a storm go non-stop for ten days, something is not right . . . " "I'm gonna fight tat big ol' Bowser" "I love your spirit little Yoshi!", the lead Yoshi said to a yellow youngster, "but you can't do it by yourself, stay here while I go find my friends to fight Bowser". After thinking about it for a bit, he decided to try to find his buddies. At first he found two good friends of his, Lakitu and Goonie, but something was different today, Their eyes were filled with rage and they were attacking Yoshi! Yoshi tried his best to talk to them, but they didn't hear a word he said, so he had no choice but to fight them. After defeating them, they turned back to normal, much to Yoshi's delight! "Hmmm, that Kamek and Bowser must have cursed my friends too! I'm going to have to find all of them!" And indeed he did, he freed many of his other friends, including Poochy, Prince Froggy, and Raphael the Raven! Overjoyed that he broke the curse on his friends, he proceeded to go to one of the active volcanoes on the island, Mt. Wickedness, because he saw that the clouds of rain were spewing out of it! "That must be where Bowser is hiding.", Yoshi said to his friends, and without waiting any later they hurried to the base of the peak.
Bowser and Kamek were busy being absolutely bored when a messenger Paratroopa entered. "How dare you come in without prior approval! Can't you see we're preoccupied at the moment!" "I'm sorry my King, but there's urgent news, Mario has destroyed the fortress containing the Warp Whistle, it will only be days or maybe even hours before he discovers the powers that course through it!" "Blast!" "No it was Boom-Boom" "You dare correct me! Only I can correct myself! Besides, it was a figure of speech! Be off with you!" "Yes sir! Right away sir! . . . . . but one more thing." "YES?!?!" "I saw Yoshi and his friends walking this way, they should be here in the next ten minutes." "WHAT?!?!" "Perhaps it'd be best if I go now.", and the Paratroopa fled at the speed of a Bullet Bill out of the room. "Well Kamek, it looks like my plans have been arranged for me, get the air squadron and tanks ready, we need to make sure that Mario never gets anywhere near the castle!" "But what if he does?" "I'll be coming to there in a few hours, first I have to defeat Yoshi for good! Did the hammer bros finish reworking the floor? I don't want that crack getting any bigger, especially if I'm going to be in there" "Unfortunately it's behind schedule" "Well fire them then! They aren't getting any of my money if they are too lazy to finish up in time" "You did only hire them this morning" "Well that's too bad for them! It's not my fault they didn't cross my mind earlier!" "Whatever you say your highness!"
The group of friends finally made it to the volcano, but at the entrance they were stopped by Hookbill the Koopa! He was a formidable foe, but with teamwork and the power of friendship they were able to defeat him! The friends then went into the caverns inside the base, where they found the Naval Piranha lurking! Despite his fearsome appearance, like Hookbill he too fell to the group. Hearing the commotion, Kamek came out to discover what all the rumbling was, to find his two entrance guardians defeated! He and his toadies then proceeded to fight the group, but like their allies before them, also fell to the might of Yoshi and his friends, breaking the rain spell that was cast over the island! The friends jumped for joy, but then they heard a loud shaking, that sounded like it was getting closer, and closer! Bowser entered the cavern, but he was huge! Angered at the interruption to his plans, he put up a great fight with the team, the battle went on for hours, but Bowser eventually gave in, knowing that his castle was a higher priority, and left, vowing he'd be back!
All of the inhabitants of the island were happy that their island had returned back to normal, and Yoshi and his friends enjoyed playing games outside under the sun.
Chapter Thirteen: The Legend of Whistles
Mario and Luigi fearfully asked what happened to the king, and one of the servants said one of the Koopalings had transformed him. "Who are the Koopalings?", Mario asked. The servant told him that they were seven of Bowser's children, taking over several of the nearby countries including Grass Land. Mario asked where he could find the one that had turned this King into a creature, and the servant told him he was flying a gigantic wooden ship. "Luigi, I want you to stay here, I'm going to do this by myself, this sounds dangerous" "How will you get on it Mario" Mario was trying to figure out himself when the servant said "I know one thing, the airship has been raiding an oil field every night around dusk, perhaps you could sneak onto it when it comes down to refuel?" Mario thought it was a great idea, and agreed, but when he looked at the time, he realized he had only about an hour to get there! So he hurridly exited the castle to the place the servant told him to look. Mario saw that it had started to become airborne again, so he hurridly grabbed the anchor as it was being towed in and quietly snuck onto the ship. However it only took a short time before he was detected, so he hurried through an onslaught of musket balls and bullets till he got to an entrance to the inside of the crew cabin. It didn't take him long to find the Koopaling, who was waiting at the opening Mario came out and immediately fought him with magic. Mario had to take a moment to find a weakness in his opponents strategy, but after evading enough magic attacks for most of the night, he finally defeated his foe, regaining the staff he had stolen from the king. Jumping off the airship, he landed on the castle and gave the wand back to it's rightful owner, the King of Grass Land. The king thanked him heavily, and was about to let them leave when he noticed Mario had pulled out the Warp Whistle. In a state of shock, the king asked the brothers where they had found it, and so they told him the story of how they were rescuing the kingdoms captured by Bowser. Excitedly, he said to them, "This is one of the legendary Warp Whistles of myth! It is so powerful that it can cause buildings to crumble just from it's sound" "Yeah, no kidding" "Folklore has it that if you play even just a few notes of the legendary song "Agaricus Bisporus" on it, you can restore order to the land! BUT just in case don't play it in here, do you know how long it took to build this?"
And so Mario and Luigi walked outside to try to play the song, which the king gave them a set of sheet music and a guidebook to whistle playing before they left. And after playing a mere 7 notes on it, Mario saw a tornado rushing toward him! The brothers split, but the tornado followed Mario and sucked him up! Spinning him around an around until he landed in a fiery, underground place. Assuming this must have been land ruled by Bowser, he walked forward, right into an army of tanks! Mario used his wit to dodge all of the bombs, wrenches, and cannonballs that were being fired at him, and defeated the commander, a single Boomerang Bro. Mario ran on through, dodging giant hands that were coming out of portals beneath him, and eventually faced Boom-Boom and hims commanded flight squad of airships. He made quick work of him though, and managed to get to a giant castle. The castle seemed errily quiet, so he quietly stepped forward, only to be fired at by laser-shooting statues! He made a run for it, but tripped on a switch, which caused a lift he was on to lift him up several stories to a set of staircases surrounded by Rotodiscs! Mario took his time in order to get safely through the pack, and eventually made it to a lava pit with collapsing blocks hovering above it. He managed to get to the higest platform and entered, dodging some fire blasts and lasers through out the room until he hit a set of doors that seemed different than the others in the castle. He slowly entered and looked up to see Bowser staring down at him from a high balcony. Mario shouted at him to come down, and come down he did, with a loud thud he landed on the floor next to Mario, literally hurling fireballs constantly at the plumber. Mario himself threw fireballs back at the King of koopas, but had to dodge Bowser as he came slamming down into the middle of the floor! Mario looked at the dent Bowser left in the floor, and then an idea came to him. He started to taunt Bowser constantly, which of course made Bowser angry, so he started stomping the floor even more in order to try to squish the man in red, but when he did it one time too many the ground underneath collapsed and he fell into the darkness. The quake from Bowser crashing into the ground broke the hinge on the door, and from the crying on the other side, Mario knew the princess must be there, so he quickly ran in. At the sound of his footsteps, she quickly turned around to greet him! The romantic moment didn't last long, for the floodlights outside were turned on in an effort to locate the two humans. The princess asked Mario what they were going to do, and he told her he'd play a song on this whistle. "But how would that help us? . . . . and how did that tornado get in here?!?!?" And with hands held together, both Mario and Toadstool were sucked up by the whilrwind and sent back to the castle. Luigi ran up to them, glad that Mario was ok after being in a tornado, and told them that the other koopalings had fled soon before Mario and the Princess had returned, with the other Kings being transformed back to normal. After much rejoicing, Princess Toadstool, told the brothers that all of this kidnapping had made her want to take a vacation, and several weeks later, the trio went off in a balloon ride past the coastline.
Chapter Fourteen: Expedition to an Archipelago Nation.
It took Mario, Luigi, and Peach several hours to ride the balloon to their destination, but after a while they finally saw the little isle that they were to go on vacation, Yoshi's Island. Peach told the brothers that she would check to see how much food they had (mostly because the brothers got bored and ate most of the food during the flight) and told them to see if they could find some fire wood so that they could make camp. The brothers, who were given magic capes [that can conceal themselves as feathers] as gifts for putting a halt to the war, decided to test them out while they searched for firewood. The experience was amazing, and while they spent hours flying, they forgot all about the princess and looking for firewood. However, when Mario noticed that it was getting late, he snapped out of his cape-caused daze, and told Luigi that they had to hurry back to make sure Princess Peach was alright. Unfortunately, when they came back, the only thing left was the food basket. After searching for half-an-hour, the bros came up with nothing, literally, the food basket was empty! Without any conveniently placed notes indicating her whereabouts, the brothers were baffled, but Mario plucked up courage and said, "No one steals the Princess and gets away with it" "And no one steals my food! Especially when I don't know who they are!" chimed in Luigi, and thus being the brave men they are they did the first thing that came to mind: they went off looking for help. After a while Mario stumbled on a house made of trees, well, it looked like a house anyway. Mario thought it was peculiar, especially with it's lone chimney and fireplace, but, because he saw that the fire was burning and didn't look like it was started that long ago, Mario decided to try to see if he could find the owner of the house. Off in the distance, he saw a palace with a giant "!" on it, so he guessed that he'd probably find the owner there, so that's exactly where he went. They traveled through some hills, stopping occasionally when it sounded like there were troops of some sort proweling not daring to try to see them for fear they were formidable foes, but eventually made it to the side of the mountain. It was a long climb, even with the conveniently placed 200-story ladder (which helped the brothers burn off a few pounds while they climbed). They found that there was . . . pretty much nothing inside, there was nothing but walls and a ceiling, they couldn't even find the door they came through! Just when they thought they wouldn't be able to get out, Luigi saw a little button and stepped on it. Much to their surprise, the back wall opened up, revealing a cache of coins! The brothers grabbed as many as they could before the wall closed up again, but they couldn't get it to reopen again because the switch was stuck being pressed down. Figuring it wasn't coming up anytime soon, they walked to the end of the long corridor and entered a pipe-like tunnel into the next room, which contained yet an even bigger switch! The brothers combined their weight to press the switch down, and when it finally did, they saw lots of mechanical [!] boxes launching off into the distance! The bros were kind of freaked out by the incident, but thought better of it and exited via a door hidden by one of the walls. Mario and Luigi, now tired from climbing down the ladder, came back to the house they found earlier and decided to call it a night. Unfortunately for them, they did not get much sleep that night because they could hear large roars that almost sounded like dinousars roaming in the distance, but surely that couldn't be what they were hearing, could it?
The next morning, the brothers woke up and, after eating some berries they found, went on their quest to find the princess. They were going on their way when an army of koopa troopas appeared on a hill, the brothers tried to conceal themselves, but it was too late, they were spotted! Knowing they could not combat them individually, Mario stomped one of them and threw it's shell at the rest, taking them all out like bowling pins! As soon as they saw all of them had been hit, Mario and Luigi ran before the Koopas could get up, and while they were running, they accidentally bumped a block that contained an egg, which began to crack open! The bros slowly watched in terror to see what kind of monster would come out, when a green, six foot tall raptor popped out. "Why than-" "Quick Luigi! Get a sledge hammer!" "NO! I'm not your enemy! My name is Yoshi and a giant turtle imprisoned my friends in eggs, I tried to rescue them, but ended up turning into one too . . " "A big turtle? That sounds like Donkey Kong!" "Bowser, Luigi" "Yeah him!" "So Yoshi, did you know where Bowser was heading?" "Not really, but it looked like they were going to Vanilla Dome over on the main land, hey, I've got an idea, I can run fast, and you helped me out, so could we make a deal?" "What kind of deal?" "Well, I can let you ride me, and in return could you help me find my friends?" "Alright, you've got a deal", replied Mario, and so the threesome went on their adventure, though, thanks to Yoshi's help, it didn't take long to get to the first castle. Mario and company tried to get in, but Yoshi had too much trouble climbing the screened fence that crossed over a lava pit, so Mario told Yoshi and his brother to stand outside and wait for him to return. Despite his build, Mario very skillfully travelled the screen, even knocking off some Koopa Troopas who had came to make him fall into the lava. After barely missing a fireball, Mario made it to the opposite side of the pit and proceeded into another room, where giant pillars were slamming into the ground! Mario managed to use several drainage areas to avoid the pillars, and proceed on into the next set of doors, which left him on the middle of a platform teetering in lava! Mario then noticed he wasn't alone, as Iggy Koopa was standing next to him. The two fought, with Mario constantly avoiding the balls being constantly thrown at him, and realized that no matter how many times he stomped on Iggy, he wouldn't get hurt because of his shell! Mario was shocked that this tactic wasn't working, but he finally figured out an idea to beat the Koopaling. He ran to the opposite side of the platform and let Iggy's weight tilt the platform and slid down into Iggy's head, sending the creature sailing into the lava, but unfortunately, the platform started to capsize too! Mario ran as fast as possible and leapt off the edge to a platform he saw in the shadows, and sat for a breather now that it was mostly quiet. The silence was broken though when an egg bounced into Mario's lap, causing the plumber to scream, but then he remembered he was supposed to be looking for Yoshi's friends and realized this must be one of them. So with the egg bouncing in his arms, he quickly walked out of the castle and blew it up using some of the leftover dynamite the Troopas naively left near the exit of the castle. Yoshi was very glad to see one of his friends back to safety. "Thank you Mario! Can we go find the others now? I think they're on the mainland." "But how are we supposed to get there? I don't see any bridge." "Oh yes, there's a bridge, it's over there in that fog" Mario waSn't too sure that there was a bridge there, but he trusted Yoshi and sure enough, when they came close, they could see a long rope bridge stretching to a large land mass on the other side. The bros [Mario still carrying the egg] rode on Yoshi to the other side of the bridge and into what Yoshi called "Donut Plains". "Why is it called Donut Plains?", Luigi asked. "Because who doesn't like donuts?" Luigi was going to question Yoshi's logic, but thought better of it because he didn't feel like walking.
Chapter Fifteen: A Bootiful Sight
The bridge was very long, and by the time Yoshi got across he was completely exhausted and collapsed. Mario and Luigi quickly got off and asked if Yoshi was alright, which Yoshi replied assuring them he was only tired. The bros told him they would find a spot to call the night. "Boy it's humid", said Luigi, "but at least it's not raining" *thunder* "well it can't get much worse now" "LOOK! THERE THEY ARE!" ". . . Ok, you know what, I'm just going to shut up now" "Run guys!" The brothers were still in shape and ran quickly, however Yoshi, in no condition to run, tried to eat them, the shells were too hard for him to swallow though so the Koopas quickly started to overwhelm him. "Mario, Luigi, HELP!", Yoshi yelled after spitting out a shell, much to the disgust of the troops attacking him. The brothers turned and ran back and managed to help their friend out of trouble, though they had a few bumps and bruises afterward. "Thanks guys" Yoshi said, "Oh no problem, right Luigi" *thud* "well I'm sure he'll thank you too once he regains consciousness" "I guess we should rest here for tonight Mario" "What about that mansion over there? *cue dramatic music and lightning* "Th-Th-The There?!! No way!" Even the egg didn't want to know about the house. "What could be so bad about it, you'd really rather stay here? Alright, well I'm getting out of this rain, keep an eye on Luigi" "I'd like to buy a vowel" "Good luck Mario, don't say I didn't warn you." And with that, Mario entered the doors to the mansion. Mario started to regret going inside, the place felt too quiet, but it didn't take long for him to find company, a ghost cackled right in his ear, causing Mario turn around and both of them to scream! "Don't look at me! Your eyes, they're HIDEOUS!" "What? My eyes do-, why yes! I have the most hideous eyes in the world! If you stare at them long enough you'll burst into flames! Stay back!" "Guys! I think he's serious let him by!" Mario proceeded to walk by the boos, occasionally causing some of them to flinch when he'd glance in their direction. Mario proceeded to enter a door that he found, when he noticed something as he closed it, he wasn't standing on anything! Mario fell nearly 6 feet to his . . .fall, he wasn't hurt at all. "Drat those ignorant servants, I told them that it was much more scary of a fall if it was SEVEN feet! Bah, you can't trust anyone but yourself these days" muttered a voice that seemed to come from everywhere, yet nowhere at the same time. "Who is there? Show yourself!" Mario said with a little uneasiness in his tone, and not long after a giant robin's egg colored spirit appeared. "I am the Big Blue Boo" "I have come to do absolutely nothing" "Wait, what? Really?" "No, stupid simpleton, prepare for my wrath! No one may intimidate my henchmen except me!" Mario tried to jab the ghost, but his fist went right through the spirit. "Bwahahaha, you can not hit me with your barehands! You are in a bare room, and I'm only susceptible to slate-formed projectiles!", the boo laughed so hard afterward that the floor underneath Mario's feet started to break up. Looking down, he realized the broken floor was made, of all things slate. "And he called me stupid . . ." Mario managed to nail the Big Blue Ghost with several chunks of the stuff, the Boo started to glow. "No, no! Ghosts shouldn't be able to die!" And with that, he smashed through a wall and flew off into the distance, exploding on a flat plain of land, ripping a hole in the earth that glowed with a bright light. Mario at this point was too tired to really give a Koopa about it, so he left the ghost house and went back to Luigi and Yoshi to sleep under the trees.
Chapter Sixteen: The Super Dragons
The next morning, the three woke up and decided to check out the glowing portal. It was shaped like a star, but it wasn't solid. It constantly wavered in an out of existance and had a strong pull upwards, sending several leaves straight up. After staring at it for several minutes, Yoshi said something, "I wonder, when I was a little Yoshi, the bigger Yoshis told me and the other little Yoshis a story about the "Legend of Zelda, no wait that wasn't it, the 'Legend of Stars', how every once in a while giant glowing starlike things would land on the ground, making a connection to the 'Star World', a land where three magic Yoshis known as the Super Dragons reside, they each master an element, flame, quake, and sky, but have been dormant for many, many years. Maybe the story is true." Mario thought for a moment, then he told Luigi, Yoshi, and the egg his idea: "Maybe if I can wake them up, they'll lead us to the Princess. We don't actually know where she is, so maybe these three Draconic Supremes" "Super Dragons" "Whatever you want to call them, will help out!" "I don't know Mario, according to legend few have returned from the Star World . . . ." "Well, it's a chance we'll have to take, you want to see the rest of your friends too, right?" Yoshi remained silent. "Just be careful, bro" "Alright, wait, you're not coming?" "I'm going to help Yoshi find the rest of his friends, we don't know if the Super Dragons will help or not, so just in case things don't go according to plan . . . ." "Mario, go ahead, we'll be fine. We're rooting for you!" Mario, a little disappointedly, said goodbye to both his brother and friend, and also the egg, and walked toward the portal, little did he know this would be the last time he would see them for quite some time. Mario entered the starlike object and was sucked upwards at the speed-of-light, complete with appropriate elevator music, and flew over a blue landscape he did not recognize, but before he made it to wherever he was being sent, he lost consciousness . . .
The plumber woke in a strange place, nearly everything was black, except for an emblem floating in the sky that looked vaguely familiar, some white, isolated platforms, and a lone constellation of stars spelling "SPECIAL". Mario was very confused due to the surreality of the place, and thought, "now how will I help the princess, I don't even know where I am" *crinkle* Mario looked down and noticed he had stepped on a piece of loose leaf paper, which he began to read: "To escape from this land of legend great, Thee must conquer the trials eight" Mario wondered what this meant, when he was warped to a new area containing difficult terrain to deal with, he had a little trouble, but thanks to his cape he made past it easily, then another one, and another, until he cleared all eight trials. A portal appeared in front of him, much like the one he had taken before, and as soon as he touched it everything he saw became white. He began to see something different, he was back at Yoshi's House, but this time it was Autumn, and he was standing beside Princess Peach looking at the sky. "Oh, Mario", she said, "You've saved me so many times." "Uh huh" "I wish there was a way to repay you." "You could marry me" "Sure why not" "Oh goodie! You know, I wrote a poem for you, eh hem, I love you, I love you, I love you. The end!" "You are the best poet ever Mr. M" "Yeah", Mario said dreamily. "Mr. M? Mr. M? HEY FATSO!" Mario woke up with a start, surrounded by three ordinary looking dinousaurs, one red, one yellow, and one blue. "Finally, it's about time you've woken up!", said the yellow Yoshi. "You've been out for over two weeks", said the red one, then the blue one chimed in. "By the way, you talk in your sleep. So I guess you like peaches huh?" Mario turned as red as his hat. "Preferably I'd rather eat plums, but to each his own". "No it's a person, her name is Peach" "Oh." "I hate it when people are named after food" "Changing the subject, how did you get here Mr. . . . ." "Mario", then Mario, who was not fully awake when the conversation started rememebered something, "Wait, TWO WEEKS!?? How have I been asleep for that long?" It takes awhile for mortals to get used to the ride up here, consider yourself lucky it wasn't a few years, can't tell you how many unconscious toads we had lying around everywhere a century ago when a star road appeared in one of their cities." Mario raised his hand to ask something else, but the blue Yoshi interrupted: "You're probably wondering why we aren't dormant like in the tale, correct? Well whenever someone comes up here it disrupts our sleep, especially when it's a person with a large amount of aura" "Where are our manners? My name is Xiang" and these two are Andreas""Yep" "and Edan" "Yo" The conversation felt like it was changing every other second, but Mario thought it would be rude to tell them to stop, being super powers and all, so he thought about keeping quiet, but changed his mind. "I was wondering if I could request something" All three Super Dragons stared at him, making Mario feel a bit nervous. "Oh this should be good." "Depends on the request." "Well, you see, the person I told you about, Peach, well see she's a princess, and a monster named Bowser kidnapped her, and I have no idea where they went. Also, my brother Luigi and our friend Yoshi are trying to find the rest of his dinosaur friends" "Meh, you don't need our help to save them" "What?" "What he means to say that we've known about the green hatted guy and the green Yoshi since you woke us up." "You, you can see everything?" "Well actually the water in the lake behind the hill lets us see whatever we want, so we checked the land you came from for a reason to why you were here and spotted him" "Looks like they have a pretty nice sized army with them" "What?!?!"
What have Luigi and Yoshi been doing while Mario was out cold? What is this army? Ghosts can die?
Find out what happens next in the near future! (or is it the near past?)

He contemplated how he would escape, until one day the zookeeper forgot to lock his cage . . . .
Chapter 5: The Not So Good Life
Famicom Grand Prix
Donkey Kong 3
Donkey Kong

Mario Bros
Chapter 9: The Mushroom Kingdom Civil War
Mario's Bombs Aaway
Super Mario Bros
The princess turned around to see who had rattled her cage to see a
As Mario, Princess Toadstool, and a jealous Luigi walked home, they told Peach, I mean Princess Toadstool, about their journey and the perils that they went through in order to rescue her. The princess found the story very interesting, either that or he was looking into Mario's
Chapter Eleven: All is not Won
Super Mario Bros 3
Tetris Attack
Super Mario Bros 3 PART 2
Super Mario World
It took Mario, Luigi, and Peach several hours to ride the balloon to their destination, but after a while they finally saw the little isle that they were to go on vacation, Yoshi's Island.
