^Is there a date for that? Remember that Melee came first than FE6 so probably they used his smash pose instead of actually creating it themselves.

Also thanks <3 The thing about drawing is practicing a lot
Yup, the book came out after Melee, it's dated 2002/8/28 on amazon Japan. I just think it's kinda cool how the mangaka referenced Melee. are they a Smash fan? lol

And no problem. c: I would love to get into drawing someday, and I agree a lot of practicing is involved. and patience too

Amazing work! <3 <3 <3 Always makes me happy to see people make fanart of Roy I wish I could draw T_T lol

I came across this book. I think it's a manga, as it says "Futabasha", which is a Japanese publishing company. It just caught my eye because Roy seems to be in his Melee taunt pose.

That is definitely a reference to Melee. Which is pretty awesome.

Hey there, everyone. I'm new to Smashboards, so I'm still trying to get the hang of things.

Roy's my 2nd favorite character that was introduced in Melee next to Mr. Game & Watch, and I've missed him ever since he was cut from Brawl. After he was put in Project M, I decided to try it out and he became my number 1 main in it.

It makes me so happy seeing all this support for him, as I thought I was the only one who really wanted him back since I come across nothing but detractors everywhere else. I would love to be added to the supporters list, and let's hope that he's really back, as the recent leak made me regain hope after I almost gave up on him.

Roy's our Boy!

Welcome to Smashboards! As you can see, I haven't been here for too long, only a few months. It's fun here, I'm telling you! (I'm still really awkward with the whole forums thing but oh well.) And I thought I was the only person who wanted him back as well. I didn't grow up with Melee, but I have a MAJOR appreciation for FE6 + FE7 and I thought it would be great to have a rep from those games. Since Roy is also a veteran, why not him? Roy's our boy! And again, welcome to Smashboards! I really do hope I don't sound conceited right now ack

Thanks! I've actually been watching Smashboards for quite a while, but it wasn't until now that I decided to make an account since I wanted to become part of the community with you guys, and also show my support for Roy.

I felt like this too until I started lurking here awhile ago. It can be hard to figure out how the general fanbase feels about a character sometimes when the detractors are so loud. But thank goodness all of his supporters, both here and elsewhere, have never given up hope even after all these years. Roy fans are very passionate, that's for sure.

It hasn't really been years for me, only since I played through FE6 and 7 around January/February. I sometimes feel inferior to other people who have been supporting since Roy was discovered to not be in Brawl, but new supporters are always accepted I hope.

Yeah, I've always been hoping for Roy's return all these years, but his detractors are honestly some of the most obnoxious and ignorant people I've ever seen, and it's because of them that I was always reluctant to express my opinion of wanting him back.

I'm planning on playing FE6 since I want to try out Roy's game, and learn more about the series in general. Melee introduced me to it, and I have seen the games, but never actually tried them out myself. I plan to change that soon.

I want Roy, just because I want to see him beat up Roy Koopa.
I've never touched a Fire Emblem game in my time and wasn't that interested in him in Melee, but those jokes are starting to annoy me.

Well, yes definitely! Just like in Fire Emblem, you have units that have been with you from the very first map and units that you don't gain until the very end, but all of them can be valuable. Same goes for Roy's supporters. :)

Yes, they really are. Unfortunately the detractors have been screaming for many years and their misguided "arguments" have spread like a disease to a lot of the fanbase. But I've seen plenty of times where all it takes is a Roy supporter to jump in and start correcting the misconceptions to turn opinions around. It doesn't always work but when it does at the very least you have one less detractor, and at most you gain a new supporter. I'll admit that I'm usually not brave enough to dive in and start debates with detractors, but I've been inspired many times watching others who have.

I would love Roy back in he seems like a great character and I love the Fire Emblem series, especially the one that take place in Lycia. The only problems I can see with him being playable is the amount of FE Characters already in the game and the name confusion between him and Roy Koopa, but I still hope for him back.

I agree all detractors are horrible in general, I wish people could just respect what other people want in smash.

Exactly, they really don't need to buy a character they don't want. They're acting like these characters are free and being forced upon them in a patch.

Yeah, I really don't see why they complain so much if they don't have to buy him, and no one's forcing them to.

Exactly, It's people like those that made me leave Miiverse.
When I dug deep into the depths of Miiverse, I never went there again, with very few exceptions.

Yeah, I left Miiverse recently, It's full of children cyber bullies and flame wars. The Miiverse admins have literally no idea how to take care of stuff like these.

This. A thousand times this. There are plenty of characters that I don't like, but I would never seek out their fans and harass them for their opinions. No one should have to be belittled for what they like. I've always thought that I would rather spend my time and energy supporting a character I loved than attacking a character I disliked. It's too bad there are so many others who feel the opposite.

It's especially bad on YouTube and Miiverse. I was attacked on Miiverse and even reported for simply trying to get people to stop attacking Ridley fans.

Exactly. Even if I'm not really a fan of the character they want, I respect them for supporting them and trying to get them in. I don't see why there are some people that feel the need to constantly bash them just because they want their character in.

Seriously? That reaches a whole new level of ridiculous and nonsensical for me. Ridley supporters really have it rough, and I think it was good for you to defend them, since they really get a lot of flack.

There was this guy on Miiverse who made an account called "Ridley Fan" and make post about them mocking them and making fun of them, he has like 7 accounts and a bunch of people on Miiverse praise him like a god. And the people who "worship" him have such hypocritical arguments about how it isn't cyber bullying to mock Ridley Fans.

Yeah, unfortunately Ridley fans really have it rough, which is absurd considering up until Sakurai's statement on him he was the most wanted character for Smash Bros.

Its like that saying, when you are the top of the world, your friends know you, but when you are down on the ground, you know your friends. I feel unfortunately for many characters and for much of the existing support, its not really legitimate ironically. Just others jumping on a hype train, or supporting a character due to a loudmouth riling others to do so.

With Roy and Miiverse, I was pretty sure he was actually pretty popular there. I know pro-Roy stuff gets a lot of likes, and of course there is the Lonely Roy comic series which has a notable following.

As for new Roy fans joining in, I am pleased to see it. As royalblue pointed out, its like a FE game. Some of us have been here since the first map, while others of us have joined towards the end of the campaign, regardless we are all still a part of Roy's "army".

It was certainly bad years back. The detractors like to throw the "we don't need two Marth clones line", but even before that they still based their attacks on Roy for being a clone, and used various other lines to say why we should feel bad for liking Roy. The most amusing were the ones were they said that Sigurd was originally planned instead of Roy and/or the Japanese fanbase didn't like Roy and/or FE6. Both got resoundingly debunked (though I still see a loudmouth or two contest the idea that Roy is popular). The idea that Roy's files in Brawl meant nothing, also blew up in their face.

The road to victory is still long, but together we ride. Welcome aboard all you new Roy fans.

Sorry, but this whole discussion where we're vilifying "haters" and acting like we're all suffering from this belittlement of opinions or something like it's a crime is actually quite silly because it's all about video game characters...talked about on the internet. Too 1st-worldy for my tastes...
But anyway that's just how I feel.

Welcome new Roy fans!

A lot of people think five characters is too much for FE, but I've never agreed with that. The series orginated in the 80's on the NES, has over a dozen games, is all across Nintendo's platforms over the years including the 3DS and Wii U (systems smash is on now), it features hundreds of recruitable characters with unique personalities, backstories, and stats, and a handful of continents with arguably more lore than LoZ. With Nohr/Hoshido, SMT x FE, and the revival of the TCG, it's absolutely absurd that people think Fire Emblem would be getting too much with a fifth character. Bah.

I didn't care about Roy at all until 2010 when my second FE was FE6 and didn't directly support him until months ago. I'm in the same boat.

Thanks! I've been following this thread for a while now, and you and everyone else's posts really motivated me to stand up and show my support for Roy after hiding for so long. I managed to find a light of hope here after going through so much, and I thank you all for it. Let's hope the best for our boy.

Sadly, most people don't want Roy in because of Lucina.

And even then, I don't really think that argument makes sense. Lucina has none of the unique attributes that Roy had, and people saying she's pretty much the same as him are completely wrong.

Lucina is like a complete filler (She, unlike Roy that even a clone his appearance was fairly obvious thought and has more differentiation to Marth), It is as if actually we had only three characters from FE.

Nah, they will look for any excuse. Lucina's sole difference from Marth was the lack of tipper, while Roy had differences across the board.

FE6 was the first Japan-only FE I imported. Enjoying FE6 as much as I did, is what led me to import the rest of the Japan-only FE games. Few here probably know this, but my avatar is from the intro to Fire Emblem Thracia 776 (FE5). I actually imported that next after I finished FE6 because while I heard FE6 was hard, I really enjoyed FE6, and heard there was a FE that was even harder, so naturally I was intrigued. That plus the novelty of it being the last fully original Super Nintendo title made it my next FE to import.

I am glad that there are some other Roy fans among us that also loved FE6. Its definitely one of my favorites.

If Lucina wasn't shamelessly implemented to be worse than Marth, I'd actually care about people who only think that way. Roy has the potential to be decloned and better balanced, because sweetspot.

Chrom and Awakening Roy (though it seems like he forgot his sword lol).

And welcome new supporters! It doesn't matter if only recently you began to support Roy. Everything makes in impact, even the most littlest things. <3

Thanks! Like I said before, you and everyone else motivated me to stand up and show my support for Roy. I'm glad I can be part of this group of supporters, and we'll keep hoping that Roy makes it in.

And that cosplay is indeed awesome.

I loved Thracia so much that I bought it never intending to play the cartridge. $72 I don't regret, I got it for a steal since it was usually $150 or so at the time with the places I looked iirc. I already had the weird fan translation finished for one run, with a SNES USB controller I bought mainly for another run on it and FE4, and my recent run involves Leaf killing Galzus in a 1v1 duel with his earliest appearance.

Gaming can be so expensive, especially buying retro games.

Some time ago when I was out of town, I went to a gaming store. But they sell retro games which is really cool. Huge variety from games on Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc., consoles. They had Path of Radiance there, but it was like $85 and I didn't want to spend that much at the time. My sister bought Shrek SuperSlam though. :awesome:

Man, there are no stores like that over here :(. My best bet is in the internet, and I'm lucky if I can find reasonable prices.

I'm so happy the sound files for Roy were found! I am guaranteeing either a reveal at the FE anniversary or at E3.

How would you guys turn Roy into a Semi Clone? All the other Melee clones got this treatment (Doc functions differently than Mario, especially with customs, Ganondorf got a sick Side B and F Tilt, and Falco got so much change to him). I would picture Roy being much more of a rushdown character than Marth, how would that play out?

I could see them giving him new moves (such as a fire projectile) or changing effects of similar moves, like giving moves fire effects and such. If Roy is indeed a new character, all we can do is wait and speculate. I like the sound of that rhyme XD

Buying a game while never intending to play the cartridge, you say?

Best $100 I ever spent. Maybe one day my reading skills will be good enough that I'll be able to play it.

:awesome:
I've been trying for a long time to find a copy of Path of Radiance. Most of the copies online are going for $100+ and I'm still kicking myself for not buying it when it was new. Never seen it in a store in the past however many years. I was lucky enough to find Radiant Dawn not too long ago at a retro game shop for $60. It was used, but still had the box and manual, so not bad. I was even able to redeem the Club Nintendo points for it, haha.

I think he would overall get the same treatment as the other character who were previously full clones, changing some of his moves here and there, and probably adjusting some of his different attributes to make him better at rushdown than Marth.

Seeing as the data in Brawl shows that Roy was probably going to be in the game, I'm pretty sure he was going to get the same treatment as Falco and Ganondorf. Now that there's a chance he could return, they could use the ideas they probably had for him.

They really need to put (and translate) all retro FE games on eShop, will make them more accessible to people.

Man, there are no stores like that over here :(. My best bet is in the internet, and I'm lucky if I can find reasonable prices.
The retro game store is actually like 6 hours from me. I was out of town visiting relatives, so might as well stop by, no? I'm lucky to have something like that sorta, kinda close to me, though.

I actually found that game store browsing through this thread: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22721 there might be something near you depending where you live. Other than that, yeah, unfortunately a lot of game hunting will have to be online or searching hard across stores that sell older, used games and independent sellers.
