I hope he doesn't stay the crappy Marf clone he was in melee and he turns into the beast in PM. When I voted I hope they use his PM move set. And lower his aerial lag please.

Roy will most likely be a respectable character in this game with the removal of chain grabs, less combos and no more edge hogging. The rage effect should also help with his killing issues.

I feel Roy would get treatment similar to Falco or Ganondorf. Changed up a decent amount to where he's no longer a clone of Marth, and becomes more of a Semi Clone. What changes they'd give him though, I wouldn't know. Also, I kinda want to see his outfit from Awakening...or at least mix that with his Melee attire.

If you're fine with Roy returning as a revamped/new moveset character, why not send a ballot vote in about that?

If you don't want Roy specifically, an email sent to Nintendo where you say "Hey I don't want Roy, and I sent an email because I didn't want to send a ballot vote for him, but if he does get added back due to demand, please change his moveset so that he's not another Marth clone" or something similar would be perfect. I'm fine with people against Roy as long as they help bring the issues to the table.

So? I mean really. There's basically 3 versions of Mario in the game (Luigi being a semi clone). If Sakurai made Roy a semi-clone like PM did, he would be an excellent fit as DLC.

I don't have any real beef with semi-clones (I would trade Lucina in for Roy in a heartbeat), but I just don't think they're worth the character slots. Everybody is screaming to get their beloved Pichu, Young Link, Roy, & Wolf back but if we're only getting a couple more characters after the ballot ends in October I really feel that they ought to be original characters. To have them all be returning clones/ semi-clones of past games seems like a waste of a great opportunity.

I kinda see it as that, if clones are focused too much on, but clones and semi clones are super easy to make compared to full characters. I've done it before with BrawlBox. 6 clones takes the same time as one character, so any time that can't go to a full character, would be a perfect opportunity for Roy in my eyes.

It's fine if that's what you prefer.

There's people who would prefer to see more unique characters. And there's those who are fine with clone-ish characters to return. I don't think Y. Link and Pichu would be seriously considered tbh (unless Sakurai really wants to bring back all cuts...). Wolf I do think has a really good chance, while Roy has always been a popular requested character (ever since pre-Smash 4). He's could potentially be up there too. I'm cool with Roy and Wolf, and I don't really see them as a waste of a slot.

Now, how many DLC characters we're going to get is debatable. I always have low expectations when it comes to these things, but I guess we'll have to wait and see on an official word.

If Lucas can return to the series well before other DLC characters and be a clone or semi-clone of Ness, I don't see the problem given theirs things that can be done to Roy to make him unique from Marth and Lucina just like Luigi is distinct from Mario and Doctor Mario.

Edit: I want Roy back, but I prefer Lucina heavily over him. Roy is nostalgic though, as when I was younger my dad and I played Melee. I usually went Marth or Mewtwo, and he almost always went Roy.

That's the Japanese poll. Cuts have always been popular over there. The official polls that they're doing are publicly available world wide now, so I'm wondering how everyone's going to do (I still think it's a bit too early to gauge). Perhaps Sakurai will find a balance between the Japanese and Western fanbases? Who knows, but I still think Pichu and Y. Link would return if Sakurai is really adamant about bringing everyone back (there's more popular cuts that would earn a bigger profit). Could be wrong of course.

I've never played FE6. I never played Roy in Melee. I have no sentimental attachment to the character. There are a panoply of characters from Fire Emblem I would prefer over Roy.

They can always change the Koopaling name to "Roy Koopa". All they would need to do is get the announcer to say their name as (Name) Koopa instead of just (Name). Would work well seeing as Nintendo is bringing him back to voice recordings for Mewtwo, Lucas, and other characters.

Roy has the tremendous advantage of being popular in Japan.

Consider that Lucas was the most wanted character for DLC in Japan, so Roy is in a similar situation.

Of course, there's also Wolf, popular in both Japan and the West, but things are already looking favorable for him, given he has popularity similar to Lucas (so if Nintendo was aware of Lucas's popularity, they were aware of Wolf's as well) and there's the new Star Fox game, so it makes sense to show him at E3.

And who knows? Maybe Roy DLC could tie with the upcoming Fire Emblem game, even if not by story, but by virtue of belonging to the same series. And this year is the FE series' 25th anniversary, with events related to it happening in Japan.

Roy may be likelier than people might believe...

As for me, Wolf is my only request and vote, as he's the only character I really want to see returning, but I won't deny that Roy's return would be great, as he would be another character to return from Melee (joining Dr. Mario and Mewtwo). Veterans returning are never a bad thing, to be honest.

While I don't expect all veterans to return (especially considering the issues Snake and the Ice Climbers have) and think that newcomers are just important for DLC distribution, it really says a lot when the first two downloadable characters are veterans.

Sakurai did say he dislikes cutting characters and only does so when really necessary, so I could see him bringing a few more veterans through DLC. Wolf and Roy are strong contenders right now. They're popular enough to have a lot of requests.

Just to let you guys know the announcer saying Koopa is in the Game data, due Bowser's name being King Koopa in Japan, so it wouldn't be to hard to splice Koopa and Roy sound files to make Roy Koopa. Although they could always call Roy by his full name: Roy Pherae. With that said would it be all that uprising if they had sound files for the announcer saying the missing characters names? You know just in case they all became playable.

I feel as though a character like Roy, who's been a popular requested character ever since pre-Smash, 4 shouldn't be outright rejected because someone has the same name as him. Sakurai & Co. are creative developers. I'm sure if they find this a problem they would come up with a solution (like a different announcement tone, prefix or suffix like "Lord Roy", etc.). They've already tried their best to tackle on some other issues, so this problem seems minor to me.

and are both very distinguishable characters anyway. One's a bishounen prince, while the other's an overgrown turtle. Some other characters, however, are more similar appearance and moveset wise, like Pit and Dark Pit. Nothing stopped them from coexisting.
