this is a thread for people who're in a situation which makes it extremely difficult/impossible to play people.

i work 6-7 days a week and have no form of transportation. there is one other smasher in my town (who also lacks transportation) and we have been able to play three times in the last 3 months. last time he walked over an hour to get here, and it's probably going to be my turn to do that walk next time.

lately i've started practicing again because keeping my tech skill under control requires a lot of maintenance. i just go back and forth between a strict training regimen and wildly freestyling on a lvl 1 cpu. i have the infinite shield code for action replay, so i can practice shield pressure now, but i still can't practice spacing.

i decided i don't want to quit melee, so does anyone have any other ways people like me can practice and/or still enjoy this game?

If you have to use a computer, people usually practice spacing against level 3s. And I have no one to play either, because I live in Maine :(.

video's always get me hyped to play
you could start your own personal matchup diary of sorts, where you list things to remember/practice as you watch video's

such as jumping patterns, edge guards, punishes, approaches, etc.

when i say i want to practice spacing, i want the computer to be pro at dash dancing. lol that would be fun.

i like the idea about watching videos. i usually just watch them as if i'm one of the players. then when they do sometihng i wouldn't have done, i ask myself why. i feel like it helps a lot. i need to watch more videos.

well i'm still inconsistent enough that i don't just use cpu's for fancy tests, i actually practice the essentials against them like l-canceling with/without hit confirmation.

I play other games that help the same aspects, I just have to apply them differently. Play a lot of highly-technical games, or play games with unneeded tech skill. My favorite for this is Zelda 2; practice Short Hopping (9 frames), Double Attack Short Hop, Triple Attack Full Hop, Drilling; I make up all my own names for stuff and seek for new ways to be efficient, and you can do this in TONS of games.

I also play a lot of games that require prediction, planning, etc such as competitive Pokemon, only that you'd have to get used to the transition from turn-based to real-time.

But of course, read a lot about the game, watch a lot of videos, practice playing the actual game and you should at least be moderately fine, just lacking in experience.

I got 5th in Singles and 3rd in Teams at my first tournament, after playing real people for 2 days, so it does work. =)

While you're bored lv 9 cpus can kill some time...but beware that doing so literally decreases your skill level.

I have only one smasher in town also, sometimes two but he drops smash whenever school comes around. I just do my best to learn match ups and do everything I can to learn more and more about this game. Im always in some form studying melee.

I'm also limited to a small neighborhood, and my next door neighbor is the only smasher I have access to. And he's horrible. So I just like to freestyle on Marth with CF.

Btw, can you share that infinite shield code with me? I have version 1.2.

Dude shut up, we live in Killeen and this whole break I've been in North Dakota.

But really Kenny, we need more smashers. Whenever I can grab that scrub for sure on the weekend again we gotta play.

I play online Brawl because I have no one in the area to play Melee with. It makes me feel like a sinner.

Hi. This is Melee we're talking about here?
Oh, um, wow what the hell was I thinking when I posted that, you are right that was me being dumb. (I was thinking melee had online for some reason).

Try 64 online, Super Smash Bros. 64 comes with more combos than melee, but not as much cool tech skill stuff (Though it is a lot more technical that brawl).

If you have a Wii, you can get Action Replay working without one.
Debug Menu is da bess.

If you don't want to face the AI, you can use the menu to do basically anything, even Mismatched Break the Targets.

Do this if your lonely

Practice Nair fastfall shine with fox 20 min a day. Practice not moving and when you feel pretty comfy then bam ur ready to practice waveshining. Once you master with fox it's a since with falco:). Then falco. Then watch Ken vide0s(or your preferred main character) Once a dayTHE sAMeVideos! Then get a notepad if you.... No wait when u see something he does take note of it. By doing this once a day u will get better! And never forget that ur mind is ur greatest weapon the player. My smash workout is a bit more complicated If your interested let me know and I'll share more with you.

if you want to be technical players, and already have basic techs down fairly consistently, pick up a string instrument, keyboard/piano, or play rhythm sim games. :)

I got about 8 smashers in my area within a 30 minute radius, I can't drive though, so normally I have them come over here. To pass time, I play smash with my roomates at school, they can't really AT but, hey they play.

After graduating from NC State I've had no one to play.

I still feel like an outsider in the NC community. I only briefly got to know some of the tournament folks in my senior year. I had my own group of friends that I practiced with... none of them had any interest in going competitive.

So from May until now, I've been all alone. Skill-wise I've stagnated.
