I think they had something going with her spaceship shooter minigame in Game & Wario and while having it be in Crazy Galaxy would make sense, I would like for it still be a part of Diamond City or atleast feature the characters in it. I don't like the prospect of Ashley finding herself only after ditching her old persona and life for a new one in outer space. Kinda spits on the memories of her in WarioWare.

Honestly, I'd like it to be some sort of Action Puzzle game. Sort of like Captain Toad, but instead of puzzle challenge maps, I think she could embark on a journey where we learn more about the lore around Dry Bones type of creatures, Shyguy lore? And other dark monsters of the mushroom kindgdom, where Ashley uses spells to clear path's and puzzles. Red could be the annoying Omochao from the Sonic Games giving you hints if your stuck.

I don't know if it sounds exciting enough, but I'd like it. Traveling through different areas, being a more dark, but cosey game.

she was added two weeks after the ballot started and the final place holder added was Corrin not bayonetta

so this might mean the ballot was made for the choices for smash bros ultimate not smash 4 dlc

We were already told that she only "won" after what essentially amounts to undisclosed criteria. Personally, I feel that with all the Smash 5 Newcomers removed, then you get Bayonetta's placements given to us. That's the only way that Bayonetta's results made any sense to me. I never viewed her as a top 5 candidate, but top 10 is well within that realm of possibility.

What it means for Ashley? I think it means good things, tbf.

And during that time, we had to take their word for it because we had no idea they were planning a new Smash after 4 so soon. They probably planned it all out around May or June. They saw that certain characters were leading the ballot, picked them out along with the veterans to set aside for Ultimate, and then chose the best candidate out of who was left as the "winner". A.K.A., Bayonetta. This is how she was finished only 4 months after the ballot closed.

Yeah, it was pretty sketch that Bayo was No.1 in Europe when K. Rool was the favorite everywhere else. Odd that Rare would lose in their own backyard.

I think it depends on how much Ashley beat the other assist trophies by and we know that Ashley probably curbstomped her competition in Japan, even the likes of Lyn. It's one thing to be popular, which an assist like Isabelle has on Ashley by quite a bit, but how much people want to see you as a fighter is another thing. The only trophy I could see beating Ashley in the ballot is Isaac and hopefully Ashley's relevance and being easier to develop edges him out.

I'm also really happy to see this thread as active as it is, bodes well for her continuing popularity moving through this hype cycle (and if it ends in disappointment, then especially for the next).

Interesting information about the ballot if true, though doesn't a character slot indicate just that, a character slot and not necessarily Bayonetta? I mean, they definitely did add qualifiers and Bayonetta as the ballot character never quite felt as on base as it should have, so things would make a lot of sense if the others were saved for Ultimate.

Especially looking at Mii costumes, when you removed the deconfirmed characters and third parties, you get a set of popular characters and fan favorites that include Ashley, Geno, and King K. Rool among others... Which, I mean, look at my signature. You know how happy I would be to have all of them in.

Edit: Looking further at Mii costumes, Viridi, Black Knight, Chrom, K.K. Slider, and Isabelle are really the only ones left, with a special mention to Tails because let's face it Sonic is kind of in a different situation at this point. A couple of those could easily be Echo fighters, with Isabelle and Chrom having significant support as such. Black Knight I doubt has enough popularity or differences from other Fire Emblem characters to be one.

That leaves Viridi, K.K. Slider, and Tails. I'll admit I could see us getting Tails at this point to go along with Sonic, but he is third party. K.K. Slider was released as an additional promotion item during Smash 4's DLC cycle, and is likely to continue to play guest roles on Animal Crossing stages. That leaves Viridi as the only other standing Mii costume, which is Sakurai's own nod due to his work on Kid Icarus, but I could see him wanting to put in another unique Kid Icarus character as well. There is also Majora's Mask which isn't a full on nod to Skull Kid, and we've seen lots of references to the Mask itself in Smash already. So that could potentially go a couple different ways.

And that leaves the three I mentioned. I want to support this theory more than I reasonably should at this point.

When you program something, you usually don't add it in until there's a need for it. In this case, it would be testing. In order to keep it a secret, you'd scrub the data rather than remove it since removing in total has the potential to cause bugs. That's why placeholders usually exist and why the "slots" were labeled as "Mario" When these updates first came out.

Basically, They had a pretty god idea of what they were putting in there by the time the slots showed up and likely the very basics of there were already worked on at the time.

Personally I would like more original characters in the cast with maybe WarioWare, Mario, Rhythm Heaven, and Warioland cameos or a few characters. Kinda separate it so it feels more like it's own universe and less like a WarioWare spin off...
But that being said- You don't think the idea od a space witch is cool? It's pretty unique and she canonically can travel between dimensions in WarioWare.

What's pretty weird to me is at the bottom of the page next to some Logo's there is a "???" greyed out. There is a bit of text over it but I don't know any Japanese. hmm. Either way I hope we get an english version of that Prologue video soon.

I'm no expert in japanese but じゅんびちゅう "Junbichuu" seems to mean "closed" like a shop for example. I don't think this ??? means much for the moment.

Oh weird! It is crazy as you pointed out, when you refresh the page, Ashley is the Only person that stays on the page no matter what except wario himself, all the other cast is selected at random except for her. she's always there in the same spot wow.

I mean, I know it's not directly their fault since they aren't in charge of what people vote for, but this deception could've really hurt the performance of characters whom already had roles in Smash 4.

This has been a concern of mine ever since we knew about the data being used for future Smash games. At least Sakurai seems to be somewhat aware of how that may have impacted voting - if we take fan polls at face value (which, granted, maybe a fool's errand given that they are a small sample size) Ridley didn't seem to do all that well because of his existing role in Sm4sh, but that doesn't negate the large amount of fan support he had generally, and lo and behold, he got in. I definitely think it sealed Waluigi's fate though - had the notion that the ballot wasn't for Sm4sh DLC exclusively been more widley understood I reckon he would've done much, much better.

I'm not a huge Ashley supporter, but I love WarioWare and think she's cool, so I'd be happy to see her get in. Here's hoping her chances haven't been squandered by the ballot's mixed messaging.

Personally I prefer them red, the reason is because the Wii U game changed ALL characters eyes to black, just to conform to the games style. They were never suppose to be canonically black, just like Mona's eyes are not canonically black, but they were in the Wii u game.

So I'd say they would probably be red, but who knows they might go with black just like they did with the assist trophy and have them go red to show she's using spells.

I hope they keep them red, and just have her hair change to white when she's uses spells instead though.

If the roster is decided in 2015, Game & Wario might have a impact on Ashley's model. On the other hand, Smash Ultimate japanese website uses the Warioware Gold logo.
Another possibility is a "smash" look, akin to Peach or Roy, based on Game & Wario but with new details that includes the red eyes.

After rewatching this Prologue Video again I have come to apreciate that Ashley uses her Wand/Red as a Telephone. haha.

From what I heard, the parameters of the unused character slots matched Ike and ZSS, which strongly suggests Cloud and Bayo used them as a base.

I think it makes sense for Wario to f off to make cheap games in Diamond City, but Ashley isn't really the type to leave her mansion for very long. I think I can accept it so long as she's not abandoning her home and she's just visiting other dimensions while in Diamond City.

That trailer looks really nice and it's a first in WarioWare to have Wario call up his friends for the next game. I think it's a pretty sweet scene for such an anarchic series.

I'm just worried if they end up spoiling all the details online and what that would mean for a potential direct. An early Ashley reveal hinges on a direct featuring WW Gold, so I hope that's still in the cards.

Yeah of course, but her most recent game right before smash had her eyes black like all the other characters in that game, which would be why they were black in Smash wii U. They for somereason used the most recent game rather than her established Canon eye color.

Not 100% sure what you mean employed, but they do thier things I guess,

Mona - Makes Pizza, and does cheerleading.
Jimmy T - Dances.
Ashley - Makes mixtures and potions in the Haunted Mansion.
Orbulon - Invades Earth, no clue why.
Young Cricket - Trying to become a Karate master, and eat Dumplings.
9-Volt - Playing video-games with 18-Volt.
Dribz and Spitz - Driving a Taxi Cab.
Penny - Actually making things in a lab?
Kat & Ana - Doing Ninja stuff, saving the day?

They don't exactly work for Wario, that might have been in one game if so, I have not played them all, but at least those are some of the things on top of my head they do.

Yes, it implied that all of the characters are contractors for Wario, making microgames in their spare time. I'm citing WarioWare Touched where all the characters tell you outright that they made the games by themselves. How Wario initially got in contact with them or why some of the characters want to make microgames, I don't really know.

Yep, Ashley has been going strong since the launch of the DS and would be the second character to debut there. Console representation is not that important to me but it's a nice bit of trivia about her.

I have to know why the Gold site hasn't shown amiibo information yet. Surely the Smash Wario one will work, but either amiibo do something big that we can't know about yet, or there are other amiibo that haven't been revealed yet that will work. I have to know.
