I don't know why anyone would be against Grinch Leak unless they wanted a character that has yet to be deconfirmed. It's full of characters people have wanted since at least Brawl.

To play devil's advocate, someone might have their reservations because they aren't convinced it's 100% real and don't want to get their hopes up.

I, personally, am cautious, but not ruling it out, like I've said before. But if it comes true, then Sakurai has taken an already outstanding roster and doubled its awesomeness. Even Ken, who I consider the weakest link, is an understandable inclusion, and an Echo of a character I like to play as, so no objections here, haha.

Growth just seems like a baffling thing from Golden Sun to make into an item (it's not like psynergy is something you just bottle up and throw at stuff). I'd expect something more along the lines of a weapon like the Sol Blade with random unleashes, or possibly a djinn.

Yeah, I'm also miffed that people have convinced themselves that no leaker could frame their leak like this.

I dont know how it would. Would be weird to give an item like that two stages. Unless its changed and it sprouts into a bulb. Even then that sounds like an unnecessary change.

Like I said, I don't think it is the Healing Field, just something that could be tangently related (ie another healing item). Both have sprout imagery, so I don't think it's a stretch to think that this new sprout can also heal.

If nothing else, the Grinch Leak would at least knock off a lot more potential DLC/future game competition in Banjo, Geno, and Isaac than the Kencineroar/Box Theory timelines.

As for its legitimacy, I probably lean "no" but honestly vary by the hour. I'm glad I can say that, since it will keep me off of the "Look at all these wrong people" compilations once it's all over.

I dont think it's real at this point because of the blatant background mistakes. And I think it's a pretty healthy outcome for the community. A lot of fallacies are going around right now that I'm not comfortable with.

I don't think Mach Rider got the most votes, but Mach Rider was considered for Melee, so perhaps Sakurai felt like adding a retro he had previously considered back in the franchises earlier days.

I doubt the Mach Rider placed within the top ten or possibly even the top twenty overall. Any of the Retro characters from the NES era (Mach Rider, Takamaru, Ayumi Tachibana, Balloon Fighter, Excite Biker, Etc.) probably didn't even come close to the top ten, however, in order to stay with tradition Sakurai probably wanted to place a Retro character in the roster anyway.

Looking back at the mock polls during the Smash Ballot days, the character among the Retro category with the most votes was either the Excite Biker or the Mach Rider. The two characters are similar, however, the Mach Rider is more combat oriented so Sakurai decided to go with the Mach Rider thinking the Excite Biker people would be pleased with the Mach Rider as well.

For this reason, I'm thinking the Excite Biker will never be playable in Smash. The closest he will ever be is a skin swap for the Mach Rider.

The Smash Bros fanbase want to believe it due to it having almost all of the longtime fan favorites. While possible you have to wander why they would not space out the newcomer trailers by not having 1 for July, October and another one in the September Direct?

Exactly what puts in th fake spotlight. Too good to be true (except to me, in which I haven’t played a single one of those characters games, aside from Ken, and I’d still prefer chun-li over him), even the retro is the top requested in that regard. Especially Isaac, who was shafted from 4 completely. Another discrepancy which should tell you not to believe the leak, is because it’s saying there are more unique newcomers left to be revealed than ones we already have, when it’s impossible for us to get anymore than two more directs (and that’s pushing it) before launch.

Some places always argue, and got me disenchanted with speculation for a while. I'm glad it will all be over soon!

I'm hoping on the winner to be a tie between the Grinch and Sakurai. I hope some of the characters in the banner are true but I also hope some others were faked in it too so Sakurai can surprise us with what's really in those spots~

We started with "is this a new game or just a deluxe port?" and ended with an adventure mode being announced. Which means they'll top this one by announcing Ashley as DLC.

Ashley's costume is back the Ashley discord server says. They have a picture fighting against Ashley's spirit pits you against a Mii fighter.
prolly the same with Geno above too.. but I don't think a Spirit or a costume is a heavy deconfirm, an AT might be a heavy deconfirm, but I still have hope for my favorites cuz if a plant can make it in anyone should be able too!
