I wish I could share great but unheard of games to you guys so I made this thread. If anyone else wants to contribute please do. The popular games should be obvious so don't post them they're banned.

General Chaos - Genesis: What can I say, this game is some of the best fun I have ever had especially when i was growing up with friends. It's a blast 2 players (even now) and it's a hilarious game sometimes. Personally I think it's the 2nd best game for the Genesis (aside from Shining Force 2 that is). One player it's kind of like a RTS game, but it's still fun. Two player is action packed control the guys individually. If you have 4 friends you can play 2v2.

Overall: 9/10

King of Dragons - SNES(Arcade): My brother and I used to rent this game all the time because it's such a blast. If you like side scrolling beat em ups (Double Dragon or Battle toads) then you'll really like this. You choose of 5 different classes who are each unique. They range from the Fighter, Cleric, Dwarf, Wizard, and Elf. As you progress through the game you get weapon and armor upgrades and you can also level up with the more points you obtain. If you like it the first play through the replay value is great since you have other classes to try out. It has a great OST (made by Capcom, so you know it's good).

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City -

GTA in Miami. Possibly the only game in the series where your character rises above thughood in the only tropic environment in the series. The best and most replayable GTA to date.

Pokemon Puzzle League -

Really Tough AI's and a deceptively complex game, but the Anime faceplate turns people away from it.

World of Goo -

Just play it already.

MoHo- Arena combat with robots with no legs, and they have large metallic balls in their place. The game has lots of different modes, levels, characters, and is really fun. It does get difficult later on in the game though.
(PSone- 7/10)

Running Wild- Racing game with various animals. It is on foot, but is a fantastic game if you want a laugh.
(PSone- 7/10)

Tiny Tank- Up Your Arsenal- I can't explain this, it was a sort of platformer/ shooter, and you played as a tank. You also wore a cowboy hat at some point. Google could help with this.
(PSone- 7/10)

Valhalla and the lord of infinity- This game is epic, seriously. It was the first ever speech adventure game, and was extremely difficult, like all great adventure game. It had a top down view, a cool story, and the Prince (the main character) was cool and witty, and he was the reason you wanted to play it.
(Amiga- 10/10)

Superfrog- Don't need to explain. If you haven't played it shame on you, and play it now!
(Amiga- 10/10)

I have loads more, but I picked the first few that came off the top of my head.

Please will no one say Ico or Psychonauts- they aren't hidden gems, just games that not a lot of people played, then became hard to find.

Monster Rancher - Monster Rancher has an unfortunate reputation of every Monster Raising Sim to follow Pokemon Red/Blue, a knock off. Anybody who isn't mentally ******** and has actually played the game can tell you that Pokemon is nothing like Monster Rancher. The best part about Monster Rancher is that there really is no end. Sure, beating everyone else is the "goal," but it never ends. The most interesting aspect of Monster Rancher is how you get your monsters out of the Shrine. Monsters are captured in "Disc Stones" and released from the Shrine. At the shrine, you put in a Music CD, PC Disc, or even another Playstation game to release a monster. Really interesting and a trademark of the series.

9/10

Monster Rancher 2 - Did everything the first game did but added in new things of its own. Out of any Monster Rancher game, Monster Rancher 2 had the best monster selection hands down.

I've got a few.

Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines (PC) - This game is just criminally underplayed. The combat could definitely use work, and it's horrifically buggy and prone to crashing even after patches, but it's well worth it. Tons of interesting characters, engaging story, pretty fun character creation, and awesome writing. Seriously, the dialogue and voice-acting in this game is fantastic, and the graphics have aged really well in my opinion.

Arcanum (PC) - Another Troika game and yet again criminally underplayed. The combat was pretty meh, and the game lacked balance (magic is way better than tech) but this game has so much going for it. Awesome steampunk fantasy environment, probably the best character creation in a game ever, awesome music, great dialogue, and just all over immersive atmosphere and engaging characters and dialogue. Oh Troika, why did you have to leave us so soon?

Rebelstar: Tactical Command (GBA) - I was going to mention X-Com, but that game wasn't exactly a hidden gem, it was pretty well played at release and even now. But Rebelstar is kind of like X-Com Lite. Linear and with no base management, but the combat is very similar if dumbed down somewhat slightly. It's for a handheld too, which is the real selling point. X-Com on the go? Yes please.

Makai Kingdom (PS2) - If you've played Disgaea and Phantom Brave, Makai Kingdom plays like some unholy fusion of the two (made by the same people so I guess that figures). It works really well though, I had a ton of fun playing it even though the battle system did take getting used to. I didn't like the story or characters much though, and you seem more limited in your moves than in Disgaea or Phantom Brave (the latter in particular) but this game is very much a diamond in the rough.

Jagged Alliance 2 (PC) - This is pretty much one of the best strategy games ever. I rank it up there with stuff like X-Com in terms of strategy games actually, and that pretty much makes it the cream of the crop. The combat is great, and in addition to that you have to manage your money to hire mercs to work for you. Each has unique stats and a unique personality, and the game is just hilarious sometimes. A really fun game, but the difficulty is unforgiving. Really unforgiving.

That's all I got right now.

**** nearly forgot a couple.

Disciples 2 (PC) - Another really fun turn-based game. You play as the ruler of a kingdom commanding legions of units. Each one is lead by a hero/leader (You get to pick from five) and there's a decent amount of customization between your various leaders and their equipment, the development of your castle, use of magic, unit types, the fairly wide variety of items you can pick up, and the setup of your squads (back row front row type arrangements). Really fun fantasy strategy game, I recommend it highly.

Front Mission Series (Various Systems) - I'm actually a little surprised this game isn't that well known. It's a great strategy title from Square, based around fighting using giant robots called Wanzers. Stupid name, but the idea is cool. You can customize all the parts of your mech as well as weapons, and each pilot has different aptitudes with each weapon. There are also plenty of abilities in most of the games (well they're a bit lacking in the first game) and you can really get some powerful pilots by the end of the game. Unfortunately Square has decided to be a total jerk and not bring over Front Mission 5, the most recent and best looking of the series. There's a fan translation project going on though, so I'm hopeful.

Bleach Dark Souls
that is all.
don't remind me D=
I just spent all day today looking for that game, and NOBODY had it. Not even gamestop! and I thought gamestop had EVERYTHING.

On topic:

GOTCHA FORCE GOTCHA FORCE GOTCHA FORCE

words do not describe how underrated this game is. In short, Gotcha Force is like Virtual On meets Devil May Cry meets Mega man meets Power stone. It's not that in-depth, and the voice acting is horrible, but **** it's fun, especially with other people.
8.9/10

God Hand

It's actually well known, but unfortunately, IGN's trademark IGNorance was too strong, and it flopped. CURSE YOU IGN.
9/10

Sonic Heroes

Not that good, but a lot better than people give it credit for.
7.8/10

Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland

I blame stupid homophobic americans for the lack of a NA release of this gem.
CURSE YOU STUPID HOMOPHOBIC AMERICANS.
8.5/10

Graffiti kingdom

It's cool.

Waiting for you to slip up.
Stranger's Wrath (Xbox 360)- I actually rate this ingenious first person adventure, third person shooter game above the likes of Halo 2. Yes, it's that good, and THAT underrated.

Rating: 9.5/10

Okami (PS2/Wii)

I don't care even if this came out on the way- this is truly one of the greatest games I've ever played- it's as good as a LoZ game and certainly better than most games on the Wii. Plus, it's got the best Graphics on the Wii too.

Any Sega series that isn't Sonic.

Most of them are good. And I can't wait for the Genesis collection coming. :D

Bomberman Generation for the Gamecube.
Hard to explain how good it is, but it got a bad rap by some b/c of the Pokemon minigame ripoff, with a Pikachu clone to boot.

Romancing SaGa 3. It's a Japanese-only RPG for the SNES that was made by Squaresoft. Excellent music and it has a unique battle system that involves hundreds of different techniques and party formations being very vital. It's a bit challenging, but it's worth. Make sure to find a working English patch, though.

Legend of the Mystical Ninja for the SNES is very underrepresented (along with the rest of the games in it's series which I forgot the name of). It's like Zelda, but with more fighting and with platforming sections. The only problem is that the passwords are super long (not Golden Sun long, but still) and continuing after a game over makes the game much harder than it already was, since you lose all your good stuff. If it had actual saving, I would give it a 9/10, but since it doesn't I'll give it an 8/10. EDIT: I figured out how to save, so I used that to cheat the casino to get maximum money. So it's a 9/10.

Ogre Battle 64. This was one of the greatest games I have ever played.
I think you're the first person I've ever seen who mentioned this series that wasn't me. Too bad Square Enix will never make another sequel because they're too busy making love to Final Fantasy.

Also I wish Heavy Gear would come back. I've never really seen any other games that were quite like it.
