Have there been any talks concerning Half-Genie Hero's price? Trying to plan out my spending for the next little while. With the game being HD, is it bound to be more than $30?

Kou artwork. (Love the perspective here)

More Kou artwork of the "painfully adorable" variety

I love the Hooligan Sisters from MSF.

I'll probably regret it, in spite of it being non-confrontational and only meant to be informative, but I wrote a reply in the DLC Character Discussion sticky as people were making comments about the Shantae supporters that were... presumptuous at best. While others were being snide.

I don't think I'll be going back to check on it.

Anyway, uh, Mario Maker supposedly has data for an unused Amiibo costume by the name of "WindowsLogo". I still can't imagine how Microsft, Rare, and Nintendo would possibly manage to make even a brief partnership work, but RandomTBush just tweeted about it. Some people are thinking Banjo-Kazooie have better chances now.

Video Games are developed on computers, by the way.

A bunch of Splatoon beta content was found in Super Mario Maker, too. So that could just be a lot of assets just accidentally left in there, or things that weren't meant to be there.

"Characters from 3rd party franchises with no future are rarely chosen." -Masahiro Sakurai

Everyone seems to forget this.
First of all, sorry for the late reply.

Second. Don't assume I forgot anything about how Sakurai chooses his roster selection. I've said it already in this particular thread to another person in the last page or two, I'm not uneducated about how the roster is chosen. I simply said I dread the thought of Banjo making it in and would prefer Rash of Battletoads. That being said, it isn't entirely impossible that Banjo can make it on the roster. It is just that his chances are slim at best. Nintendo isn't exactly enemies with Microsoft. It would be PlayStation they hold the grudge against, man.

If the indie character that makes it into Smash ends up being Quote, I would actually be pretty cool with it and understand it. He has the most relevance in Japan (as it's his birthplace) and Nintendo made Cave Story into a household name...

...Unless there was no Curly alt.

#OFFENDED

Though if Quote came in as a unique MegaMan like fighter where he only used projectiles that would be cool.

Come to think of it Quote wasn't in Runbow was he? It's weird, considering he's the "original Indie" character. Behind Shantae of course... ;)

Yeah, I also find how Quote and/or Curly not making it to Runbow really weird.

Shantae, the first Nintendo Indie, isn't there.

Quote, the indie, isn't there.

And Lilac. This game is called "RUNbow", isn't it? You'd think the character who is based on Sonic the Hedgehog would be in.

Right behind you.
One week until the Fighter Ballot closes. One week. Get your vote in if you haven't already.

Frankly I have no idea what to expect anymore. People thought veterans and clones of veterans would be a wasted vote, but then Lucas and Roy returned. People thought nonstandard characters would have no chance, but then came Ryu with his Street Fighter-based inputs. People thought King K. Rool was a shoe-in, but then his Mii Costume happened and people were suddenly unable to decide if it was a confirmation or a nail in the coffin. Indie frontrunners Shovel Knight and Shantae have been given low chances by many on account of being... well, indie (which is something I furiously disagree with), but then Shovel Knight got that amiibo deal, and Shantae rode the hype train from the Fighter Ballot so hard that she got enough notoriety to secure a physical Pirate's Curse cart release in Japan.

Everything has changed so much since the ballot started. The wait between now and the announcement of the ballot winners is going to have me on pins and needles just because I have no idea what's going to happen.

Here's the thing about Shovel Knight's amiibo: It wasn't really a full-on Nintendo decision. It was just Yacht Club knocking on Nintendo's door with a pitch ready and a request to use the Amiibo template, with Nintendo approving. I don't think 3rd party previously asked if they can make an Amiibo.

The manufacturing, programming, etc. was done by Yacht Club.

So it really doesn't mean anything on the Nintendo side of things.

So, a title that needed a cult classic following in order to get real traction going is "overrated"?

Also, I haven't played Shovel Knight, but really, what does he bring to the table we don't already have from Link, Marth/Lucina/Roy, and Ike?

He actually does have potential to be unique. Like Shantae, he was born with a Smash moveset ready. He has other gear he can use for specials and the shovel can be used in a variety of ways for the basic/smash attacks.

People act like Indies don't deserve a spot in Smash, with spots apparently "meant" for other "iconic" 3rd party characters.

1. Being "iconic" should matter as much as having good games :4sonic:, let alone having recent games at all. :4megaman:

2. Nintendo, out of all companies, is embracing Indies most. They want to push these characters as much as they want to push the next Mario, Zelda, or Pokemon. Want to know why?

...It's the general cycle of mascots in the media. Yes, they can be popular, and known by many for generations... But... Let's face it: There will come a day where these once world-famous characters will be gone.

So... What happens from there? Where are the new digital avatars to play with? Where are the new friends we can make and new experiences we can share with them?

That's where the indies come in.

They're recent. They fit in a modern world. They're made by those who loved gaming heroes from past ans want to create new heroes for the future. They seem simple and small at first, but will soon grow, and become the next big thing. I think that Nintendo realizes this, without even knowing it.

Shovel Knight may become the next Mario.

Shantae and Juan (Guacamelee) can become the next Zelda or Metroid.

Gunvolt and Beck (If he manages to get things straight) could be the new Mega Man.

Sash Lilac and her friends may become the new Sonic the Hedgehog. (and make correct decisions about what to do with the franchise kappa)

Nintendo, one of the most famous gaming companies in existence, are exposing the heroes of tomorrow to the masses with the 3DS and Wii U, and want them to succeed. Just as they did with many heroes from the days of the NES.
