Shantae's trailer:
After the Smash logo appears, we see Toon Link sailing the sea with the King of the Red Lions, they stop to find treasure and they pick up something with the crane, the typical Zelda item suspense comes and we see he's found a Genie Lamp, that's quickly snatched by a figure jumping out of the water over the boat, knocking Toon Link into the drink. The underwater figure races towards an island where a fight between Mario, Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man, and Ryu is taking place, out of nowhere a cannonball is fired and Mario notices that it’s headed straight for him. Before it can hit him, the figure, revealing itself to be a mermaid jumps out of the water and hits the cannonball with her tail and knocks it away. The mermaid backflips onto the island and tosses up the lamp, transforming offscreen. The figure strikes her transforming in/out pose and reveals herself as Shantae. As the lamp lands in her hand, the tagline “Shantae Grants Your Wishes” appears. When it disappears, arrows suddenly attack Shantae as Toon Link jumps up and tries to attack her with his sword, but she deflects with her cuffs and dodges out of his range, the other four heroes join him to face off against her. Mario smiles and does the same “Bring it” gesture he gave Duck Hunt. Shantae, with a determined look on her face, charges up some fire, and it transitions to her gameplay, to the tune of the “Dance Through the Danger” remix from the ½ Genie Hero E3 Trailer. After the game’s title, a massive figure jump out of the water and onto the island, interrupting the fight between the heroes. As a shadow in the shape of a pirate ship and it’s captain overshadows our heroes, they look on and prepare to strike back as the captain laughs maniacally.

King K Rool's Trailer:
After the Smash logo, a jungle appears, with Donkey Kong along and Diddy on his back charging through the forest in pursuit of a flying ship that has stolen their banana hoard. The ones piloting the ship are revealed to be Bowser and Bowser Jr. Bowser spots the two following them and motions Jr. to control the ship, and jumps off to confront Donkey Kong himself. As he lands in front of them, Diddy jumps off and swings through the trees after the ship. DK and Bowser brawl for a bit, but as soon as Diddy reaches the ship to confront Jr., a cannonball shot is heard and hits the ship to knock both of them off. Diddy lands safety in the trees, but Jr. is launched into the jungle screaming. The two stop their fight as Bowser sees what happened to his son but before he can react, another shot is heard as Bowser gets hit and knocked into the jungle as well. Diddy rejoins DK as they see the source of the attack, a pirate ship out in the distance that has just fired what appears to be a much larger cannonball heading for them, but as it hits the ground knocking them back, they notice that it was actually King K Rool wanting to battle them himself. The tagline “King K. Rool Takes the Throne” comes up, and then his gameplay footage is shown, and just for the laughs, for the ending scene, Bowser and Jr. are shown having crashed into Cranky’s home and Cranky just ignores it and rocks back and forth on is rocking chair listening to the original Donkey Kong opening theme on his vitrola.

I still need Risky's Revenge and Pirate's Curse.
Which I would've had by now if SMASH WASN'T KILLING MY 3DS WITH ALL THESE UPDATES
The King K. Rool costume Update was 2000 Blocks
2000...

Buy a bigger SD card. 16GB ones are fairly cheap.

I actually really liked your scenario, so I'm trying to imagine it myself. Hence the image.
I know, I'm just messing with you, thanks!

Off topic, but if you're having a bad day, just google "Birds with arms."

At least Rash is in KI, so unlike Banjo & Kazooie, he's a Rareware character in a fighter.

...Made by Rareware. Still counts.

Not like Banjo would really fit in KI anyways. But since you brought it up, I was a huge Battletoads fan as a kid. Still kinda am at heart. I'd fall over happy if Rash got in Smash Bros. But I'll settle for KI I guess.

He's playable for a limited time right now if you have a season pass or Rare Replay on Xbox One (KI's playable on Windows 10, which is great if you don't have one) but be warned: His moveset isn't fully finished, so you're at a massive disadvantage during fights.

He'll be ready when Season 3 actually comes out.

I already know all the details about Rash. I've been keeping up. But KI won't be coming out to Windows 10 until next year though, and I don't have an Xbox One. Nor do I intend to have one. Consoles are too expensive to dish out on all the time, honestly. Especially if I'm only going to be playing like one or two games on it. I'll stick with my Nintendo systems and PC. I'll probably pick up KI when it hits Windows 10 though. Especially for dat Rash.

Regardless, it still ain't Smash. And I'd honestly prefer Rash there more than KI. But I'll just have to live with it. No one cares enough about Rash to pick him over the likes of Banjo. Which, in all honesty, is the character I dread the most in the top regarded ballot characters votes. Hell. I'd take Shovel Knight over Banjo any day. And I'm not even a supporter of Shovel Knight. That is just my opinion though. I'll be happy for whoever gets Banjo if he does make it. He just isn't in my taste.

"Characters from 3rd party franchises with no future are rarely chosen." -Masahiro Sakurai

Everyone seems to forget this, along with the fact that adding a character from a Microsoft 2nd party would be a bad business decision for Nintendo and completely backfire on them.

I'm somewhat on the same boat. Unlike Shovel Knight, where I'm fond of the character and not the game (Plague of Shadows is making me consider giving it a well-deserved chance, though), Banjo & Kazooie, despite the "duo"-based moves, just seem... Generic. They're one of the many products of the "mascot platformer" oversaturation that plagued gaming in the 90's.

And to be honest... The games aren't really all that fantastic, like everyone says they are. They're collectathon 3D platformers, which the N64 was loaded to the brim with, compared to the PS1's variety of 3D platformers, along with their array of 2D platformers. Besides, Rare has made much better titles than the Banjo-Kazooie games.

(Ironically, Yooka-Laylee actually looks fun to me.)

Right behind you.
How many characters do you guys think we will get from the ballot?
Five or so would be my guess. I'm really not buying into the "two slots on the SSB page = two ballot characters" theory simply because it would be a massive waste with all the legit character submissions, and there's no way Nintendo wouldn't have known there would be so many.

This is extremely optimistic to me. I'm thinking 1-2 new fighters. If we're lucky, maybe we'll get more than that, but five?

There's two placeholders in the games files for characters (i.e, two recurring instances of Mario), and fans have worked out that the in-game character select screen can only hold about two more without having to re-size the icons. That, and Sakurai stressed that he can't keep the team together forever, so having that many new fighters doesn't feel realistic to me.

It might feel like a waste to some if they're not able to use a bunch of the legitimate submissions, but making characters is a really expensive and laborious process so that's not really a compelling reason by itself.

I kinda think they might already be working on characters they think were gonna top the ballot anyway and release them as a way to wait for the actual winners, but that's just speculations from me lol.

There's no real precedent here.

They chose to use the word "several" when talking about fighters after Ryu's unveiling, and that fan demand was going to be the deciding factor (although Sakurai definitely has the final word on what fighters should and should not be chosen; it's not like you'd say that in an interview). If it was two maximum, I think they would've chosen their words more carefully. And obviously anyone with common sense would know the teams won't stick around forever to make DLC, but they didn't say exactly when they were moving on either. For all we know, it was planned to be long enough to develop three or more fighters and whatever additional content they meant to do (barring simple things like Mii costumes and old stages).

Literally the closest thing we have to actual "data" to go by is the fact that they arranged the four current DLCs into a "Fighter Bundle #1". Why assign a number to the pack if there was only a minimal amount of remaining DLC fighters?

Old fanart. I don't remember the source.

It's from Japan, though. That's all I can recall.

It's obvious that fan demand is important. The reason I brought up what Sakurai said about keeping the team together is that him emphasizing that they're only able to make a few more characters feels almost like preparation for the end. My point is that Sakurai and his team are professionals and are probably able to estimate how much resources they're able to continually devote to development. He was purposely vague in saying that they could only make several more, but being more specific wouldn't benefit anyone, because it would A: rile fans up, and B: circumstances can change.

I'm not saying that we're getting two characters as a guarantee. I'm saying that the current evidence really only suggests two, and to expect much more than that is very optimistic for several reasons.

This is actually one of the few things that can be debunked right now. Smashboards' own PushDustin has explained why that theory is bogus.
Edit: the fighter pack #1 doesn't matter. In Japan it's labeled as fighter Park 1-2. (fighter pack 1 was only Mewtwo). Those packs are made by NoE and NoA and are not indications of the development. (grumble grumble Hyrule Warriors characters being bundled with maps in the West).
I'm not trying to stamp out anybody's hype by saying that we're probably not getting that many more fighters. I just think it's important to temper expectations. If we actually got another 5 characters I'd be ecstatic, and I probably wouldn't even really care who they are. It's better to expect little and be pleasantly surprised than it is to expect a lot and be disappointed.

With art of Shantae in different styles of clothing, I'm thinking of drawing Shantae in a Urban/Street style. That should be fun.

On the topic of 'how many characters' I'd say 4 is the minimum. Why?
Well look at the eshop! What do you see? Smash bros fighter pack1. How many characters? 4!

Seems like the most logical ammount of fighters.

The Shantae fan vids are getting weirder.

the last one is neat though
That first one is so freaking petty. Not all krool fans cause I know some are on here and aren't bad at all but they made me hate the character and the fans because of how cocky and rude they are. That video is just an example of what I mean.
