Hello everyone, this is Doctor Phibes.
I think you all deserve an explanation about certain things, and so I will offer them.
First of all, Eric Waterman is dead. I killed him.
But that is the short story.
Back at Smitties, Miss Wayne beckoned me to a corner. Once there, she told me about how she visited the Parish, but that something strange occurred. She saw the fog occur, then come close. She opened the door, and there was Eric Waterman, who claimed to have ran there. Now, Waterman is not in shape, nor is he young. For him to have run the entire way from his house to the church is quite a feat. Besides that, Miss Wayne had driven there, and didn't see him on the way once. It was very queer.
When Waterman claimed his car broke, she became suspicious. Which is why she pulled me away in Smitties, and asked me to investigate Waterman's car. She said she wouldn't do it herself because he could overpower her, as well as her child she had to check on. I was the only other person she had talked to one on one, other then Sheriff Simms, who she said she never thought of asking.
I admit, I was suspicious. It seemed very odd to forget to ask the only man with a gun to do something dangerous, but then remember to ask the doctor. I decided that I wasn't going to make myself known. I said I was driving to the hospital, but in reality, I drove to my brother's bookstore, and parked in the back. I saw Nick's car pass me, then I ran towards Waterman's house. I checked it out and saw it was deserted, so I went to his car in the back. It was unlocked, so I snooped around. I saw both a spare key and something else: A user's manual for a Dewalt Power Drill, as well as a receipt, from June fifth, 1979. I took this, then used my key to test the car. It worked perfectly.
I was going to leave then, and message Miss Wayne with my findings. I was incredibly suspicious of Waterman at this point. Not only was he acting odd, he also lied about his car, appeared in fog to Miss Wayne, and had a power drill, the same kind we just heard about through the strange radio communication. But then I heard Waterman shout about running back to where I was, and I knew I didn't have time. I stole his car, and planned to drive away. But while driving, I saw Waterman in my path. I gunned it, and crashed into him. I then drove off south, scared, but when Miss Wayne radioed of his injuries, I drove back to the hospital. We met there, and I tried what I could to save him, but the procedure was getting hectic. So I backed away.
Miss Wayne was visibly frightened, as she knew I had hit him with the car. I had murdered him. But as I began to explain, something happened I couldn't explain.
His body...liquidated. Fog squeezed out of his body, his skin turned to water. Now I'm a real man, meat and potatoes. I don't believe in any kind of hocus pocus, urban legend myths. But this was something I couldn't validate. There was no explanation. His body dissolved in front of my eyes, into liquid and fog, which then vanished through the windows.
Whatever the hell Waterman was, he was not the Eric Waterman we all knew. He was something else.
I offer no apologies for what I did. Waterman was a traitor to us all. The Fog seems to be connected to all of this, so I suggest we stay away from the ocean. The beach should be fine, as we should be able to see the fog rather early. But I would suggest we stay away from it if we can.
Nick or Simms, I suggest you search Waterman's house to see what you can find. I'm at the hospital, I'll probably escort Miss Wayne home before talking again. I hope she can verify that everything I said here was true.
