In the old post below, I quoted something similar from IGN a couple days ago, but this time Satoru Iwata (President of Nintendo) had a Q&A with investors, and confirmed what we all hoped he would:

"It will be from around the end of this summer to the end of this year. We will then launch a new title of Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption although the last one is primarily for the overseas markets. These will be the key titles for the period ranging from the summer until the holiday sales season of this year, and I think we will be able to cater to the specific needs you mentioned."

From: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/070427qa/index.html

So there we have it. A rough, but REAL release window of the end of summer (in buisness terms doesn't that mean mid-late august?) to the holiday "sales season", which IIRC is November.

OLD POST:

"There are currently 45 titles in development for Wii and a staggering 79 games in the works for DS. Among those games are big hitters like Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy for Wii"

And in a later article:

"Iwata revealed at the press conference that Nintendo is currently developing 45 Wii titles and 79 DS titles.

The president clarified that he's not sure if all these games will necessarily see release. However, the number does include some of the big Wii games that are set for release between the end of summer and fall, including Super Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros. Iwata hinted that these are real gamer games, rather than the casual stuff that we're seeing a lot of on the DS."

Did... did he actually say Brawl AND Galaxy are releasing between the end of summer and fall? Can this be trusted at all?

Last I checked, December was part of winter. And depending on who you are talking to, November can be considered part of winter too (at least in Japan it is).

I just want to know the months that Nintendo considers fall/winter.

I don't know about Japan, but in America,

December 21 - winter - March 21 - spring - June 21 - summer - September 21 - fall - December 21

So most of December is Fall

"Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, has said the company is developing 124 games for Wii and DS and that the next batch of Nintendo games will be released in "late summer".

There are currently 45 titles in development for Wii and a staggering 79 games in the works for DS. Among those games are big hitters like Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy for Wii and DS titles, including The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Chibi Robo Park Patrol."

It says nothing of the sort... it just says that, our of the 124 games that are currently being developed, the next small group of these titles is being released in "late summer." The Brawl comment is entirely unrelated, just saying that it's one of the 124 games being developed, not that it's necessarily in the next batch.

I thought the same thing until I read the one quote you decided to omit :p

True, but it's still a bit reassuring to those who are worried the game will be delayed until next year.
Whew...no '08 madness!

I think best case scenario, we'll see Brawl in September...that probably won't happen, though. But maybe all these December predictions are just hot air? Maybe we'll get lucky and see an end of October/November release?

Brawl and Mario Galaxy are probably the best guns Nintendo has against the Halo 3 juggernaut. Hell, even I'm buying a 360 for Halo 3 in the fall. Depending on when Microsoft announces a solid date for Halo 3, Nintendo may be concealing their hand until the opportune moment...hell, we all know PS3 won't be in the spotlight this holiday season. It's going to be all Brawl/Mario/Halo! Screw responsibility and work. I'm going to be a recluse this fall and play all these great games.

If there's one thing that this news item leads me to believe, it's that we'll get a bigger more official update on Brawl soon...the long drought might finally be over.

And think of it this way: say we get a new trailer or a new character announcement in May. Then there's only 2 months until July when we'll get a huge E3 Brawl blowout. Then we just glide slowly towards release...

I'm pretty sure that the quote has been taken out of context, kinda like the whole Gore inventing the internet thing...

It's nice to hear that there are that many games, though...hopefully they're not all just minigames.

No, it's not out of context Sensai. It says "the number does include some of the big Wii games that are set for release between the end of summer and fall, including Super Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros."
Directly implying that SSBB and SMG are 2 titles among several, that are being released in the fall, context or not.

Ok...I'll try to explain again, using the exact quote from IGN:

IGN said:
However, the number does include some of the big Wii games that are set for release between the end of summer and fall, including Super Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros.
He could be using the word 'including' to mean also, although that doesn't seem likely. Still, possibility, though.

The main reason why this should not be taken as fact is that it's not Iwata saying it. You'll notice that that quote is from IGN, not Nintendo. This is the same thing that happened concerning Gore and the Internet. Believe it or not, jouranlists don't write flawlessly and without confusion 100% of the time.

It was poorly worded by IGN at worst, and at best it's still not indicative of Nintendo's plans at all.

Not really a wrong thing...

They didn't say anything wrong, they just said something kinda...poorly. Nothing at all dealing with them being 'right' or 'wrong' in the matter.

For example, if CNN is covering the Iraq War, are they wrong? Or right for that matter? No, they're not, 'cause they're just reporting something. However, if they say something that is misconstrued and turned around so that it sounds like a million troops died today, it doesn't mean it's true. They just messed up.

I just popped Melee in to the old Wii, and that can occupy me for a while. I can wait till January as long as it means that this game will be the best that it can possibly be.

EBGames, or any retailer for that matter, shouldn't be trusted on release dates. They can sometimes be trusted on videogames appearing (RE4 for Wii, Katamari for Ps3/360), but seldomly for release dates.

They moved it back from June to September because June's closing in and people are starting to wonder where Brawl is. It's a placeholder date.

Visiting from above.
That's CURRENTLY. Please keep in mind that there is NOTHING to stop Nintendo from delaying the game further if they feel like it. Nintendo is more well-known to MISS target release dates than they are for making them. Keep in mind that Brawl was supposed to be a launch title.

That said, a January release would be ridiculous and will not happen. Missing the holiday season by a month and releasing in January, or the next few months following January, for that matter, would be just plain stupid on Nintendo's part. Holiday season is the biggest-selling time for games, and if Nintendo is that close to finishing the game by the holidays, then it WILL release.

I think by late summer to fall he meant from the beginning of August to the end of November.

There was one thread similar with iwatas statment but. this is the official list of what we are seeing in 2007. http://wii.ign.com/articles/784/784665p1.html
well, it was painfully obvious that it was coming it 2007, but yeah, this basically confirms it ^_^.
at least for japan, which is why I'm glad I own a JPN wii, so I can import it before anyone else >:3....unless nintendo decides to be it's usual self, and make the USA release earlier than the JPN release, which is much more likely.

I think at E3 we'll get a release date.

Hopefully we'll get a trailer in May, then the final trailer(s) at E3. (along with screenshots and lots of in game videos) From there on in, it's character announcements up until the game's release.

if Nintendo is that close to finishing the game by the holidays, then it WILL release.
...with Pichu, if necessary.

I'm not really one for developement being rushed or cut short for the sake of reaching established deadlines if the additional time would be even remotely beneficial to the game, but hey, marketing -- what can you do..

can it be trusted? Yes, I would say it could be trusted. However... if IGN was really definate on the Super Smash and Galaxy release dates (even if it was just a general assumption) they would make an article spefically on it... even if it was just 1 paragraph I am sure it would be news. The reason why they aren't doing that is because it's not an official release date update... its a hint that it MAY be released in that timeframe. But this is good news!!!!!!

This is an official press release from Nintendo, not something IGN made up. What it means is that, at this moment in time, all of those games will come out in 2007 unless delayed at a later point in time.
