Introduction

Greetings, fellow smashers. I am your host for this new tournament, which can be found in the future.

At last, the European release date has been known for a while. In the mean time, I have discussed, arranged, scheduled and set up the Balance Tournament together with DR GAMES,(http://www.drgames.nl/index2.php) where the tournament will take place.

Now, because the previous attendant list was like 2 years old, I have decided to start a series of new lists, so that we can all be sure as to who will definitely be coming.

A few things to read about before checking out the lists:

/20 people can sign up through these forums, while 10 people are reserved for customers of DR GAMES. If 10 customers cannot be found for the tournament, then people on the reserve list will be able to attend.

/Veteran smashers from the Ede Dutch Tournaments will be given a slot when they have asked me for this, even when the regular list is full already. You cannot break nostalgia that easily. ;)

/When signing up, you will be acquired to have a team partner ready as well, if not, we will randomly decide who your partner will be.

Rules, Equipment and Date

The date set for the tournament shall be July the 13th, on a sunday. From 12 o'clock, people will be able to enter the DR GAMES shop. Starting at 1 o'clock will be the 2vs2 matches. From 15:30 till 16:00 there will be a break. Starting at 4 o'clock will be the 1vs1 matches. The tournament ends around 6 o'clock unless we will need more time. People can stay until 8 o'clock.

That concludes a short summary. I will present to you now the rules of not only the tournament, but of DR GAMES itself as well. First up are the DR GAMES rules made by both the owner and me. They are only typed out in Dutch at the moment. If necessary, an English translation will follow:

* Minimum leeftijd is 16 jaar.

Elke controller is toegestaan.

11:00 : Aanvang organisatie (Roy, Michael, Flok)
12:00 : Aanvang spelers
13:00 - 15:30 : 2vs2 toernooi inclusief finale
16:00 - 18:00 : 1vs1 toernooi inclusief finale
18:00 : Prijsuitreiking beide toernooien

Eventuele uitloop is mogelijk.

Those were the DR GAMES RULES, and the Balance Tournament rules will now follow:

General rules:

-Smashers will have to report the result of every match they play on a paper, so that the brackets will be updated frequently.

-Smashers are NEVER allowed to pause during gameplay(Even when the pause option is already off in the rules). I would like to see concentrated matches without interference from outside. That means that you should eat/drink/piss/anything else before or after your own matches! On a side note, you cannot **** inside DR GAMES.

1VS1 rules:

-1 match in every round unless time allows for some best of 3 matches later on in the bracket.
-Time: 5 minutes per match.
-Stock: Three.
-Handicap: None.
-Pause: Off.
-Stages will be chosen randomly unless both smashers agree on a particular stage.
-After the first match, if it is possible before the final and also during the final, the loser will have to choose the next stage.
-Final match will be best of 5.

2VS2 rules:

-Best of 3 in every round except for the final.
-Time: 6 minutes per match.
-Stock: Three
-Handicap: None.
-Team Attack: On.
-Pause: Off.
-Stages will be chosen randomly unless both teams agree on a particular stage.
-After the first match, the loser's team will have to choose the next stage.
-Final match will be best of 5.

Stage rules:

Sweeeet. I'd like to attend this. Return of Flokadoug in SSB3 teams? muhaha. Mario (Flok) and Wario (The_Doug) the ultimate team??

Also since smash won't be out on release maybe you'll have a few games by then and we can play Battletoads finally! and lotta other rather nostalgic NES games, hehe.

E3 happening = so much excitement.

Okay I don't know what the last two posts said but isn't this game supposed to come out next year?

And I know games come out even later in Europe. Are you going to import the system?

And new avatars are sweet.

I'm probably going to use Pit, but I wouldn't rule out Birdo or Daisy either. Yes, I'm guessing on those.

Everyone knew allready from my first post that I said that the tournament is still very far away, so it's pointless to point out that it's too early to make this topic.

Scamp, the last two posts said:

Kirby Squad: "As I said before"
(Prince) Shadow: "Put me next to it :D"

I am not going to import the system or the game itself, I would maybe only do such a thing if the system was region free and/or the Europe release date for Super Smash Bros. Brawl is ridicilously far away again, like with SSBM, we had to wait 6 more months after it got released in the USA.

And the rest of your post is useless for this tournament topic.

I wanna go :(
Last night I posted well before Arrgghh, but my **** browser signed me off >_<

Anyway, ironically you call it the "balance" tournament, but unless you wait for quite a while after the release, that name isn't near correct. Rather, we prolly won't have found out what's balanced or not for half a year or so, and that's when things start to level out. Remember, new things will probably be invented years after the release, things that are going to revolutionise the way we will play this game. Thus, we won't have a clue what's actually balanced or not :p

It's not like he called it 'The Balanced Tournament'. The tournament is to start analyzing the balance in the game and, well, you gotta start sómewhere.

Anyway, I can't wait to kick *** with Pit or Zero Suit Samus B)

The reason this is called the Balance Tournament is because like Thomaat said, we will try to find the unbalanced things in the tournament itself. And if there are no unbalanced things I could still call the next tournament Balance Tournament 2. Ironic indeed.

Oh, that reminds me Marc, Remen is a big fan of Metal Gear Solid right? I bet he's happy to see Solid Snake in SSBB. ; )

Ivo, good to see you. Where's reffie? I want to see a reply of his in here. ; )

And where are Mr.Silver and Rune?

Seems you beat me to it. I was thinking about having a tournament very shortly after the release. Wasn't really sure what I wanted to do, may have been something small like this or it might have been something more along the lines of a DT. I was even considering multi day tournaments to really put the new game through it's paces. But I guess I'll have to settle for a slightly later date if Flok has already called the first weekend.

And who says Rune doesn't play Smash? He might not go to tournaments much, but we still play a bit. Besides, for a new game that'll all change. We certainly intend to get our hands on it as early as we can, which will probably mean importing. And we will be playing the **** out of it and come kick all your ***** at the first tournament. All will change when Brawl is released. Let's just hope it'll change for the better.

The tournament is starting to get big with more people signing up. I bring an update about letting the tournament happen at my house:

My parents do not at the moment want to have a tournament in the living room. I guessed that they are too afraid that someone might steal something, or other nasty stuff might happen. I told them it would be easy to have this much people in the living room and the back garden with the maximum of 4 tv's, but so far they need to think more about it. I was pissed for a second because on parties 50 people can easily fit in the living room and the back garden together, but like I said, something nasty might happen. And not to mention that a friend of mine recently crashed literally into the glass door connecting the living room and the back garden, and now we must call someone to come fix it...(This is actually a Smash story, ask me if you want to know more). The glass didn't broke, but the door cannot be locked anymore and my friend got a bleeding nose in the end, and he did not notice the glass door at night.

Furthermore, 15 minutes after the conversation with my parents, I got an idea: why not use the gym of my Kenpo Karate sport as a big room to let us all play inside of it? If we could hire that room for 1 day(Afternoon and evening), then a big problem would be solved. I really hope my teacher and the school's gym itself agree to let me use the big room, so that we can bring some tables and tv's to it, and anything else of importance. I will ask my teacher this on thursday.

Well that's about the tournament happening. But now I want to know where The_Doug and Helios will sleep if they decide to come all the way to the Netherlands? Unfortunately, my parents usually only allow 1 person to sleep over at my house, but the bed that we use for guests is big enough for 2 persons, so it's not certain yet.

And Mr.Silver, are you planning to attend this tournament together with Rune? I would make special room for you two guys, since after all you guys started the Dutch Tournament series.

Lastly, if anyone wants to help me out on the tournament itself i.e. taking care of the brackets, making announcements, tell me about it in this topic.

EDIT: What do you guys mean with character ditto's? Is it their alternative costumes, is it for example two Pits fighting each other or is it something else?

I don't know if I can attend this one, since in France we also plan to hold a tournament on the day it comes out, or the day after (if it comes out on friday, we will hold the tourney on saturday). it will be in Paris.

Just a cheap bump really so show off my new avatar - the main man from the 80's. Autobots, roll out! Although I have no idea what episode he's wielding the transformed Megatron in, I orginally thought it was The Return of Optimus Prime, but that's Galvatron who allies with Optimus.

Soooo many good choices there now including Juggernaut and a couple other Wario poses. Solid Snake is cool too. Been a while since the NES Metal Gear, which sadly is the only game I've played him on, hehe.

By the way I call yellow Wario suit Heli! My Wario history goes back a while to Wario Land on the Gameboy and the fact I've never played another character in Mario Party or Wario Ware :p

Flok - I appreciate the extra concern! :) I don't really mind where I'll be staying, so if you've got limited space, I'll crash with someone else. That's no problem at all :)

Doug - Let's Wario ditto for the colour, then! But you can have him for now ;)
