If you disregard other people, the amusement factor is all that's there.
Since trolls evidently don't care about the feelings of others, (if they did they'd be suffering from troll's remorse, in which case they've failed) there is an obvious reason to be a jerk to someone...

because they find it fun.

because they had a bad day at work
because they got grounded from their xbox
because they got drunk with their best friends he drove them home but wrecked on the way and killed all his friends while he survived and is now in the hospital waiting to be sent to prison.
