There's a few things you people forget to consider. Fire Emblem so far only has 1 playable representative! So stop ripping on it so much! Also, with the assumptions of Ganondorf using a Sword and Marth returning (because we all know it, even ness players) there would still be only about 1/6 of the characters in the roster (assuming there are 35 characters MINIMUM) there are many many MANY more non-sword users than there are sword/partial sword users (who are also considered full sword users) Also, I say again. Fire Emblem has one ONE (most likely two [as far as we know] yes I am a Marth supporter but still) playable character in Brawl right now!

also i think if this is really going to be a debate thread we should get an unbiased side to judge arguments, and not have people insult others actual thoughts and comments, resulting in a flame war

yup swordusers are fine, but it's incredibly dumb that Fire Emblem only gets those. Chaosblade77 made a great example.

True, it wouldn't be great to get only sword users to represent FE, but the vast majority of popular lords...use swords. I think variety is great and all, but not at the expense of the most important and influencial candidate of the series (Marth). What I'm really hoping for is 3 FE reps (which would only be an increase of 1 after having 4 new games since melee and one pending for later this year.) I dare say that even 4 reps would be debatable due to it's popularity worldwide, but a lot of people will shut this idea down because their minds can't get past the whole swordsmen thing. For that fourth slot, I'd gladly support Sheeda (Marth's girlfriend) or Sigurd, or even a popular non-lord. Though I think I'll have to settle for only 3.

For those who I agree with on 'MOAR FE REPRESENTATIVES LOLZ'... here's my speculation on original non-sword using FE characters becoming playable characters in Brawl:

Micaiah from the recently released Radiant Dawn, sequel to the game Ike is in.
She's a mage, a mage hero class which was a first in the series(I believe)in case no one else has noticed. A mage like her in Brawl can only be pictured as another Zelda as to rarely throw punches or kicks and just let the magic do the work, except she relies more on the magic. Seriously, she's so fragile a gust of wind would break her in half. She's original enough, magic-using characters deserves some loving.

Ephraim from FE8: Sacred Stones, the 'first?' hero whose primary weapon is the lance. He's not too original since he slightly resembles both Marth and Sigurd, take a guess how. BLUE HAIR LOLZ. Seeing a lance user in Brawl would be a first, making it very unique. The character appearance may overthrow some Marth fans. But A LANCE-USER IN BRAWL?! *head asplode* He's probably right up there with Micaiah in originality if appearance is no concern at all.

Elinci--nope, forget she uses swords.

Hector from FE7, prequel to Roy's game and pretty popular lord since he had great stats for a heavy-armored Axe-user. Yup, he's an axe user and looked badass with one. The great debate on seeing him in Brawl was the fact that Ike already claimed the 'slow but powerful, no INSANELY POWERFUL' spot. Now, Sakurai eliminating any clone movesets and/or characters with it, he'd have to break apart what he never wanted, making Brawl have characters with indeed cloned movesets again. It'd be difficult to give Hector a completely different moveset from Ike after some thought.

Edit: I just remembered that Hector has blue hair too.

i could see hector as a clone of ike, only GASP shorter range, better speed [he seems to know his weapon and how to use it, unlike like "one hand on t3h broadsword" ike] and of course some original techniques...
didn't see him as an old man, but i'm pretty sure he wasn't taking **** then either

i think everyone goes nuts over Ephraim because of the triangle... his inclusion would mean Marth would be obsolete... you all know the weapons triangle
Spears > Swords > Axes > Spears

if i recall correctly, Mica-w/e was not the first Mage Lord--My friend ranted about this one day, but i knowingly blocked him out. There was one before her, whom i also believe was a female. But was not well recieved--not sure thought-, said i tuned it out

Does anyone have a link to the topic where the Japanese listed and semi-confirmed Sothe as an AT, if possible, please?

I repeat yet again. Japan hated the GBA Fire Emblems. FE8 is considered the 2nd worst FE game in history (only beat by FE2).

Plus like I've said before. Series importance + popularity + Most recent + First +Vetran Status + Unique moveset > originality.

We could still get a lance user though. I'm all for Sheeda if she's got any chance (after Micaiah that is). Being the main squeze of the most influential character in FE history has it's perks. She's also a female lance user that rides a pegasus. Sure she uses swords when she dismounts, but we can easily use both. What I'm really hoping for is that the new Wing Spear is a custom weapon for her, since it would make her a little more viable as a pick. Well I can dream, no matter how unlikely she is.:(

stfu for my win
people hated super mario bros. 2 when it first came out, as it was a total WTF compared to one, then i guess over time they grew to like it... personally it wasn't until i saw the redone versions that i began to come around--i loved the GBA version--and look how many of that games effects have influenced the entire mario franchise??
-----------------it is true that fire emblem + GBA might not be that popular in japan----
and i don't know the reasons for this... Don't care, as i didn't play any of them before that, personally i liked the freedom of sacred stones. but keep in mind, for a few of those newer games, they weren't released in japan only. Take the rest of the world into account

FE8 was disliked that much in Japan, huh? I knew it was a disappointment in the series as the 'freedom' destroyed the challenge of what the games are known for so I guess I can see why.

Link to Sothe confirmed as an AT thread...please...

Apparently most of the Fire Emblem GBAs weren't well recieved.

@Courte:
the rest of the world IS being taken into account hence Ike's inclusion in the first place. Once FE 11 is out Marth will have even more international status then he already does. It's not only about originality, like Sonic Wave said. Character importance and popularity also have a much much bigger influence. Since Ephiam's game was not well recieved, the odds of his inclusion are too slim. Though many people won't like it "OMGZ 2 BLOO HAIRD SWORDSMANSSSS!" Marth, because of his popularity and importance to the series, will be making his return first. Once that happens it's all up to Sakurai. I'm sure he'll take originality into account, however he's still got to go by popularity. So most likely Machiah (unless I'm missing another non-sword FE main character)

Popularity and importance to the series comes first. You'll notice that Neither Skull kid, nor Phantom Ganon are in brawl. It just can't happen! Even though neither of them use swords, they're just not important enough.

Whether you guys like it or not, Marth will probably come first.

Why must we stick to Lords? What about villains and major supporting characters. I say
Soren/Senerio-an interesting character from a classic class that has appeared in every game.
Nephenee-a unique fighter,a main character at one point and the first playable soldier in the series.
Black Knight-The best choice for a Fire Emblem Villain with a indepth backround and a General/armor.
Finn-A popular knight with a major role in both Fire Emblem 4 and 5 with a legendary lance and a horse rider would be awesome.
Alvis-Sigurds arch enemy of the emperor class. That is a combination of an armor and a magician.

An odd question for you all, as this is not the FE thread...

The aspect of Bowser Jr./Shadow[Cosmic] Mario
For most, if not all of us, the idea of the paintbrush as a weapon of some sort comes into mind for this character. What are your thoughts on such a possibility.

Yea, spam Brawl with FE reps and samurai and give Ganon a sword. We might as well call it Soul Calibur.

Adeleine from Kirby series used a paintbrush FIRST.

And she's cuter, not a Mario rep, more awesome and more original.

listen up smash child.
we could but in a few FE reps, give ganon a sword, and add Takamaru who all happen to be characters defined by their personality and points before their weapons of choice
[[i'm sure mario would prefer a baseball bat; louiseville slugger steel any day, for breakin kneecaps.. FUGHETABOUTIT!!]]

then how many do you have with bladed weapons...
like what not even ten?? STFU

and what about her makes her more original?? the fact that she stays in the background all the time?? the fact that the only time she poses a thread is when she is possesed... sounds like a perfect AT... for the Subspace army... oh perhaps it's because she's cute... dude they make 2D fighters for people who like little girls like that. and there's always henta! if you need a fix
