Welcome OTL, to my first attempt at hosting a tournament. I very much hope this is successful and that the participants enjoy themselves, and that I can earn the coveted blue username. Since I'm not experienced in doing things like this, I thought I'd keep the tournament small and little knick-knacks and limitations to a minimum; this will be a 16 man tourney, and I will only edit it into a 32 man if a large number of people are interested, but I seriously doubt that it'll happen this time.
Some things I'd like to point out further include first, that I am going to attempt to seed the brackets based on the OTL rankings, so you don't have to worry about getting bracket-screwed here; seems to be worth the effort imo.
Additionally, there is a 50 post count minimum required if you want to join. Obviously, this helps to prevent no-shows from messing up the matches; however, this specification is easily flexible if you can just get a reliable source to vouch for you.
I understand that there are numerous factors that can prevent you and your opponent from being able to fight, and we'll be able to figure something out; I may give you an extra day if needed. That said, I'm determined to be pretty firm about the rounds' deadlines, and I will only make exceptions if it is absolutely neccesary. I'm very resolute on making sure this flows as smoothly as possible.
The rules are pretty simple as far as the matches go:
- 3 stock
- 8 minutes time limit
- Items off
- Best 2 out of 3 normally, but the higher numbered rounds will be 3 of 5. I will make a notice when these rounds begin.
- Deliberately avoiding the fight to an extreme extent is banned, as is any means of stalling.
- In the case of unplayable lag, anf if the two opponents are unable to agree on who should move on, I will use my magic powers to decide the winner of the set. The same goes for if the players are unable to be online at the same time, but if you can give me reason why you deserve the win instead of letting me deciding with a
coinwizard craft, then I may declare you the victor. - Infinites are banned, save ones enabled by repeatedly striking your opponent against a wall. Those are too thrilling to ban.
- Meta Knight's IDC is banned.
- If a suicide move is used and a Sudden Death occurs, the player who used the suicide is the victor regardless.
In addition, this is a double elimination tournament.
What's more, there are some more rules that I need to speak up about regarding character choice. I thought this might add some fun to the tournament.
- Firstly, every character is available for you to choose. However, you may only choose two characters for each round.
- Second of all, a single character can only be chosen by two people at a time. If two people have already chosen Meta Knight before you, you cannot choose MK for that round. I only want two of the same character every round; adds variety, ya know?
- You might've picked up on a bit of this one, but you cannot use the same characters in more than one round. If you passed Round One with Kirby and Luigi, you will not be able to play as either of those two characters in Round Two or any rounds after that.
- You can only choose your two characters for one round at a time. You may choose your characters you wish to use for Round Two once you have finished your match for Round One. This adds incentive to get your matches done as fast as you can.
- Following that last rule, you have only two days tops after your matches before you MUST choose your characters for the next round. I don't want to have to keep waiting on everyone to pick their's after the round ends.
And that's about it really. Of course, now we have to get to the Stage List. I'm trying to be as open-ended as possible here, so there's a large amount of available stages, but if I see a reason why somethingsomething should be banned, I'll consider it.
The stage selection procedure is about as normal as it comes. Each player selects his own desired Neutral for the first match. The loser of each match gets to counter-pick his/her stage of choice, obviously y'all communicate this however y'all choose to. I was too lazy to get a Xat or similar.
Each player may strike off a stage to be banned before y'all begin the matches.

Alright, looks like we're good to go. When applying to enter, use the standard format. Include your username, tag, friend code, and the characters you're using that round. I will create and post the brackets once I have 16 people signed and ready to go. From there, I'm decided that six or seven days is the appropriate amount of time to give for each round.
I will not be participating in this tournament because I want to devote my time to keeping this up and running.
WARNING! Due to how the character selecting process is going to flow, I will not change your choice of characters after you post your application. Either edit it before I see or stand by who your characters are. I ask you to please choose carefully, as your choice will likely affect another participant's.
