I still find it a little hard to believe that ConCon managed to not be overshadowed by Elegant this time, i.e. both getting 33rd, then again, Elegant got the harder bracket.

Could also be ANTi and Dabuz. ANTi tweeted a while back that he and Dabuz beat Sheiks because they know their habits.

As for Ryu and Lucario... they take advantage of human nature lol. Sheik probably wins when played perfectly, but humans **** up and start playing differently when they're scared. Ryu and Lucario are fear incarnate.

What I want to happen: Fatality gets the upset, Tsu vs Fatality later on, Fatality bodies Tsu, then gets bodied by Zack in WFs, Komo meets with Zack for GFs, one fo the two wins.

What I think will likely happen: Nairo vs Abadango GFs, one of the two takes it.

Nairo is one of the "favorites" of the ~8 players I think could win, but the Nairo Ranai set could be very close and Ranai could very possibly beat Nairo.

The only thing I can predict is that none of the prediction lists are going to play out like anyone thinks. We have favorites but things have gotten so volatile that it's essentially anything goes.
My head is already spinning from a lot of top seeded players losing already. In any case I doubt I could predict anything with any certainty. I am pleased to see Earth get into winners at this stage. Good for him.

MKLeo is yet again proving how such an inconsistent player he is. Now now I know Civil War is already infamous for it's upsets... but getting... what did he get... top 96? Nothing to be proud of. You can all continue preaching that he's a top 3 player over either Zero Nairo or Ally, but he's super inconsistent. Time will tell until we really know how good he is.

"Oh well he won two majors in a row..." But is second place any more than just one set away from first? Aren't we giving Tsu just as much credit after Frostbite than we're giving ZeRo? Point is that consistency is valued more highly than placing one spot higher. MKleo made huge waves and caught everyone's attention and I feel that a lot of people are simplly reluctant to see him for what he is: inconsistent and arguably top 5.

Maybe after he overcomes his Ryu problem; maybe then he'll beat Trela in Texas and not get upset by wait-who-the-hell-is-this in Civil War.

Oh, and ANTi 3-0 S1

FWIW ANTi used Cloud against S1, according to the latter's Twitter.
S1 3-0ing a Rosa is honestly not in the least bit surprising, just saying. Very very good player who knows how to play the matchup, which is STILL one of the most misunderstood matchups in this game, even by Ness' (and Rosa's I am noticing) wider playerbase. Cloud is a recurring thorn in S1's side though.

Honestly 49th at this tournament is absolutely incredible. And FOW is still going. All these Ness players showing the doubters Ness still has a lot of fight left in him and three of them are solo mains. This is very significant and hopefully a shot in the arm for his meta.

crossposting this;

from what I've been told, MKLeo was quite ill during the tournament. He was going MK dittos by the end of his set with Ac (which he apparently almost didn't even make it too)

so him being ill happened to fall on a day where everybody else was getting flushed down by the upset toilet. Unless it happens again I wouldn't take it as indicative of anything on Marth or MKLeo's career as a whole.

I don't see how MKLeo has shown many signs of inconsistency otherwise. His only major block is Ryu and other sets he drops tend to be to top 10 players and it's rarely for free.

People kept **** talking Nairo like this and hovering that 49th above his head while ignoring how well he did throughout 2016 (he remains a solid contender to take CW and is otherwise a terrifyingly consistent player, could be #2 worldwide if you give it more time) and it's just odd that now we get comments like "X isn't so good" after they have their bad tourney.

etc.

Worth pointing out that these are all pretty embarrassing hits and aren't wonky bracket nonsense (closest is Ally vs. Zenyou but Ally's worked him multiple times since including yesterday so lol.)

For whatever reason, the ability to take big tournaments comes with some mentality problems that lead the biggest players to sometimes take massive tumbles in comparison to players who typically never go out early but also don't tend to win anything big very often - e.g. Mr. R, Dabuz, Komo, etc.

Of course it means SOMETHING that Luthie was able to beat ZeRo at all, considering he was pretty much an unknown before this. I haven't watched the set yet, so I can't be sure what he did.

But either way, it means quite a lot that ZeRo wasn't playing properly. ZeRo wasn't playing the way he normal,y would, which means the result would be much differant. It's like if you electrocuted a guy for an entire minute and then fought him. He's obvisualy going to do worse when he's in a significent disadvantage beforehand. The result would be skewed aganist him.

I was never an unknown. I've been around since brawl and have always been recognized in the scene. Top brawl player, top PM player, etc...

Also, stop johning for other players. Having an off day doesn't mean ****. You choose to enter. Accept the ramifications of your choice. Every player that has beaten Zero has done it because they outplayed him that set.

I was referring to Luthie by "Unknown", not you (Although that might have been an exaggeration too since Luthie had done other things recently too iirc. I know he beat Fuwa for one....)
