Calling all confirmed and suspected Meowth supporters!
I can't believe I am now finding out about this Twitter hashtag #TeamRocketTakeover
Granted the tweet is old (April 1, 2018)… nevertheless we can still use it to demand a Team Rocket Takeover in Smash and request for Meowth or any of the following Team Rocket combinations as a playable fighter.
- (could come with Alolan Meowth as Echo Fighter)
Use the hashtag #TeamRocketTakeover to let Sakurai know you want to play as Meowth or Team Rocket in Smash Bros. It is probably best used whenever Sakurai mentions Smash or Pokémon.
Use the hashtag #TeamRocketTakeover when replying and/or retweeting people who express an interest in playing as Meowth and/or Team Rocket in Smash.
Use the hashtag #TeamRocketTakeover to let Nintendo and Pokémon Company (including Satoshi Tajiri and Junichi Masuda) to let them know you want Meowth and Team Rocket (Jessie, James, and Meowth) to appear in more games after Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee. It is probably best used whenever Nintendo and Pokémon Company mention Pokémon games, Team Rocket, and/or Meowth.
Use the hashtag #TeamRocketTakeover to let Nintendo and Pokémon Company know you want Meowth to finally have his own game(s) like Meowth's Party and Pokémon Let's Go Meowth. Something like this would be nice.
We now have a situation where Team Rocket from the anime finally came back to the games after their last video game appearance 18 years ago (Pokémon Puzzle League). I believe this is our golden opportunity and we have to seize it!
I plan to show my support to Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee by getting both versions. We need to convince Pokémon Company to put Jessie, James, and Meowth in more Pokémon games. If Team Rocket & Meowth are in more games, they will be relevant in the games in addition to the anime and they will stay recent in the games in addition to the anime. And if Team Rocket & Meowth are relevant and recent in the games in addition to the anime, Smash fans will take notice and hopefully more of them will support them... and hopefully they will be more open to the idea of Team Rocket Meowth as a playable fighter.
Remember Sakurai's "no anime characters" comment? I believe that comment really hurt Meowth's support base because Team Rocket Meowth is from the anime. I insist that it doesn't matter if Team Rocket Meowth is from the anime since he is still owned by Pokémon Company and Nintendo unlike Goku from DragonBall Z. Let's just face it, Meowth is likely famous not because of the games but because of the anime. That's why I started supporting Meowth for Smash 2 (aka Melee) in the first place 19 years ago.
We must demand a Team Rocket Takeover in the games and I believe the hashtag #TeamRocketTakeover is the key.
If Team Rocket Meowth is famous because of the anime, then we must make Team Rocket Meowth famous because of the games too. That's why I believe we ought to use the hashtag #TeamRocketTakeover to demand Pokémon Company to put Jessie, James, and Meowth in more games.
We also might need to vote with our money and buy Meowth and Team Rocket merchandise. I have a Meowth plush (and a Toad plush) and an Alolan Meowth figure in Great Ball (RIP Toys R Us). I am also saving up to purchase Meowth and Team Rocket T-shirts so I can wear them and show my support in public (some of you could even wear those T-shirts to show support at Smash tournaments).
I plan to use the hashtag #TeamRocketTakeover in addition to my hashtag #OperationPayDay (been using it since E3 2018). It's named like that because Pay Day is Meowth's signature move and because the day Meowth is finally confirmed to be a playable fighter in Smash will be known as Meowth's Pay Day.
I know that it is far too late for Meowth to be a playable fighter in Smash Ultimate but we cannot let this defeat us. Ridley fans and King K. Rool fans proved that if they can unite together, not falter, not give up, and continue supporting them for 15+ years, their efforts will eventually pay off. Look at King K. Rool! He was not relevant in the games for almost 20 years and his last major appearance was in a Mario sports spin-off game 10 years ago, and worst of all, Nintendo actually thought King K. Rool was not popular! But his dedicated fans proved Nintendo wrong and they were finally and justly rewarded.
Can we prove Pokémon Company wrong? Only time will tell but I do know that as of 2016, Meowth was the 82nd most popular Pokémon. That's not so bad considering there were about 700 Pokémon at the time. With the 7th gen Pokemon and eventually the 8th gen Pokémon in the mix, it's hard to tell if Meowth will stay in the Top 100 but we must continue supporting Meowth nevertheless.
Until then... keep your eyes on the gold.
