Remember Great Bay in Melee, how everyone sank like bricks?
Remember how water had no effect on characters?

WELL

At around 0:36, watch Pikachu on the left side of the stage.

PROVING SWIMMING EXISTS!!!

0:42 - Zoom in on the bottom left... Fox is stroking upwards as trying to swim...
1:00 - Before and after Peach's Final Smash, mass of people swimming on the bottom...

I SO FREAKIN' CALLED IT!!!

Also, Melee's Great bay would be SO fun to play on with this new effect!!

Haha, sick find, dude. <3

I wonder if there will be any water-based stages (like a water stage based on the NES version of Mario's water world(s))?

Delfino Plaza just got more interesting...

I wonder if you can attack while in the water? Would Pikachu have the advantage, shocking everyone who is wet? What about the characters that can't actually swim in their games? Cel-shaded Link deconfirmed?

Nice call. This mechanic seems pretty cool.

I wonder if you can do any attack in the water, though? Like, special attacks. Also, I wonder if the depth a character sinks before coming back to the water's surface is relative to their size/weight? That would be cool.

I was going to make a witty joke about Bowser, but that reminded me of another fire-based heavy weight - Charizard. It can't swim. Would it take damage from having its tail in the water? And yes I remember that one episode of the anime where Charizard is tossed into shallow water...

it looked more like he was doing his double jump and it just looked slower since he was underwater...

if they had no more jumps in them they'd prolly still sink.

Man, Pit's Final Smash owned everyone.

I hope that is actually a swim and not just a jump underwater.

There should be a entire stage made of water, except a couple of platforms that are easily destructible like Pit's stage. Once you fall in you have to fight in the water until the platforms reappear.

On a side note: Squirtle should be able to travel faster in water!

This is awesome!! I think that is an exclusive ability to some characters, like the wall jumping.

Also I bet that Sonic, Bowser and Charizard cannot do this, lol.

You know, it could be. I could at least see metal characters sinking though. Or perhaps Giga Bowser! If Bowser has all the buffs that people say, then maybe he shouldn't be able to swim. :D

Swimming?!!? This means these characters don't save the world then, because, as gamers, we all know that the people who save the world don't know how to swim. (see: all RPG's)
(see: Final Fantasy 7, Fight against Emerald Weapon as extra boss for 3 Ultimate Materia)

Well, who's looking forward to swimming in the Subspace Emissary???

Bowser can swim. Mario RPG, Paper Mario 2, Super Paper Mario.

For goodness sake, he's basically just a big TURTLE. How can he not swim? lol

I can Charizard now though.
