This is the only thread I post in. It's mainly because I have a hard time tracking multiple threads, and often get distracted by my own side projects. I'll post in other threads when I've been summoned to provide sources/etc (use the almighty @ tag). I should post more outside of this thread, but this area feels more like home...plus mod powers :).

Well if you ever feel up to it, feel free to drop by the Smash 4 Social crowd once in a while.

We're nuts.

But refreshingly so.

This is the only thread I consistently post in.

I try to be active in the Disco Room, but I always kinda feel like a stranger there lol

I also only really post here. Mainly because you're my people, but at the same time it's just because the rest of the board has a bit too much going on and I have no idea where to jump in and voice myself without feeling like a stranger to everyone.

''WHO IS THIS BASIC ROGER SMITH *****?!" essentially.

Yeah, I'm a stranger to most of tge site too... Actually, the people I used to hang out with all the time were the Ridley supporters... But alas, I ****ed up because I was an emotional wreck. So I don't feel welcomed nor confortable with them anymore, as I feel like I did some really awful things... So at the same time, added to what I said earlier, I'm also here to sort of redeem my rep.

Edit: And I've posted this right when I'm the only one here... Not even one guest, quite fitting I must say.

Wait, who are you again? Never seen you before.
You remind md of Rosalina for some reason. Cool guy. Doesn't afraid of anything.

so guyz (n gurlz)
It's been about two months since the last Direct.
I know they're getting some new format this year but when do you expect one to happen?
(P.S. I hope I haven't opened a can of worms…)

Nothing new on this thread besides bashing dead horses that people denied they supported it and people speculating about a roster that doesn't even exist.

My main hangouts include the new Social Group that was made following the old discussion forum being archived. For me it was K. Rool, Isaac and Inklings that I was the most active in, but following what happened when Bayonetta got in, and seeing people who I had respect for and hopes that they'd understand if we didn't win act so volatile, violent and even at times, incredibly profane... I jumped the Gangplank Galleon, maybe for good. I confess that this has been driving me away from the character that I once had strong support for. That's why I've stopped supporting K. Rool... for now.

I still stay in the Social Group, and Elma thread's pretty busy, and those spoilers aren't going to tempt me. Sometimes I pop by the other character discussion threads, such as Corrin (Which I visit to remind myself that there are people who love Fire Emblem as much as I do) and Bayonetta. A while back, I enjoyed the Robin thread and their peculiar fondness for Superman 64 gifs, but there was quite a lot going on, but maybe I'll come back to the Barracks and say hi.

I also enjoy seeing what's the haps here too, and now that most of the DLC speculation era is over, I wouldn't mind spending more time here than I used to. Before I head off, I need to vent steam (That said, I should pay Steam a visit to get my hands on a Steam Controller and Steam Link). Shinnok has to be the cheapest final boss ever with those torso fire beams. -_-

There was a problem fetching the tweet

The fact that Smash for Wii U/3DS was made with DLC in mind, it makes stuff like this possible.
Very interesting! It seems the names are removed too. Perhaps, once a number of characters is reached, the names disappear to make room for more icons? Seems to be the logic.

Also intriguing how the bosses have portraits and names programmed as if they were normal characters. Even more interesting is how Master Core's forms share the same roster slot (maybe they're internally treated as alternate colors?) and how Ridley and Yellow Devil have the Metroid and Mega Man series symbols attached to them, even though I don't think they can ever have a % meter. My guess is that they could have had one at some point in development... Perhaps for a boss rush mode?

Or maybe there might have been a mode allowing players to control bosses? Alternatively, they might have programmed character slots for them to ease testing. After all, in Melee, using the debug menu, it was possible for human players to select Master Hand and Crazy Hand and actually control them.

Another interesting tidbit: all the boss slots are curiously placed exactly after Mario. Perhaps, they're not programmed to have an order, so they use the same placement as Mario, who's the "default" character in the game's coding.

The Mii Fighter icon between Mario and the bosses might be for the Fighting Mii Team. They probably were based on the playable Mii Fighters in regards to their implementation.

Anyway, it's indeed proof that the CSS was programmed with additional characters in mind, not just unlockable ones. There might be a specific algorithm when it comes to adjusting the rows and icon sizes as the number increases.

Likewise, the 3DS version had assets for a second page despite the base roster only needing a single page. Though it had room for up to 4 extra characters, with Cloud being in the game, they've all moved to the second page, with a large slot that takes up the empty space on the first page being used to switch between the base and the DLC characters.

In other words, DLC was always planned for the game. As for what that DLC would contain was likely only planned as the base game neared completion.

I hope the bosses end up playable through modding
Then I'll finally be able to play as Ridley and Metal Face

I'm in the same boat, it's hard to keep track of multiple threads on mobile(which is what I use 99% of the time)
But this will always be the place where we all almost killed each others because of some characters in a videogame(twice, no, maybe 5 times at least)

Mii Fighters are actually coded at 0. soneek might have add those characters in that order.

Yeah I think the early data-mining proved that DLC was always planned for the game. The eShop text, etc proved this. If I remember correctly, the character database theoretically has a lot of empty slots, actually getting them working/ displaying them is probably a different matter. The boss portraits and names were found a long time ago (I know cause I posted about them :p). More than likely they were used during debugging/testing!

Day 4: :025:

Not even gonna put it in spoilers because this one's brief.

Pokemon is one of the absolute largest series of gaming, Mario being one of few to top it. With a constantly evolving roster in-series, I can't see a justification to NOT getting a newcomer.

However, the only grounds to go on for a newcomer... are Pokemon we haven't seen yet. In Brawl, we got the last true icons of Gen I and sadly lost two of the three. I don't believe they are coming back no matter how sad that is. No other generation has the power that Gen I did to justify bringing back an "old" Pokemon. If we managed to get Sceptile "for OR/AS" I'd take this back but as it stands I say wait til we see Gen 7/8's Pokemon. One thing TO note is... that since GameFreak is the one that pushes Pokemon to Sakurai to approve, more or less, we can literally say certain Pokemon are/can be made FOR Smash. I hope they make a particularly "fighter-y" grass type to promote up because I want that trinity restored.

Here's a thing to do.

Every series in Smash.... Predict what will happen to them in 2016.

Go.
Kind of late but:
Bayonetta - new game teased
Final Fantasy VII - more remake info
Street Fighter - nothing aside from V being released
Pac-Man - ??????
Mega Man - nothing
Sonic - anniversary game (assuming Fire and Ice isn't the anniversary game)
Kirby - nothing
Mario - Super Mario Sunshine HD
Zelda - Zelda U info, TP HD, something something Hyrule Warriors Legends
Xenoblade - sequel/downloadable story expansion to X teased (not giving away any explicit spoilers here)
Fire Emblem - Fates and SMTxFE western release
F-Zero - GX HD shut up and let me dream
Pokemon - Pokemon Z maybe?
Donkey Kong - probably nothing
Metroid - Federation Force flops
Star Fox - Zero is a success
Kid Icarus - probably nothing
Wario - nothing
Yoshi - nothing
Metal Gear Konami in general - stops being a bunch of butts (like that'll ever happen)
EarthBound - Mother 3 localized nothing
Animal Crossing - Wii U title that's a traditional entry a la New Leaf announced
Punch Out - nothing
Wii Fit and Mii series - ??????
Retro (Duck Hunt, Game and Watch etc.) - nothing
Pikmin - Pikmin 4
Golden Sun (because of the music) - ...[sobs bitterly]

And finally

Smash Bros. itself - the truth behind the "Smash 6" job listing is revealed somehow.

What do you mean people can't make Metal Face playable? :p

I can imagine modders using this tactic for when they decide to add in characters once Sm4sh stops getting patched.

I'd like to point out that Ridley doesn't fit in his box at the bottom of the screen.

TOO BIG. :troll:

Giga Bowser actually works on the CSS in Melee the same way the SSB4 bosses do.

So I'm here watching Welcome to the NHK and I'm really enjoying it so far.

However, I hit Episode 19 and...

What happened?

I mean I know anime is a tough business and there can often be multiple animators taking on different episodes, so you notice differences in the animation quality but...wow. Never seen it take this much of a hit.

And I didn't just take a shot of a bad frame. It's been like this literally for the first minute of the episode. Even though it's a fairly serious moment going on.

EDIT:

Seriously it's still like this.

These aren't even action shots it's just people standing around and talking.

Better than that one episode of Gurren Lagann where they let a friend be the animation and art-style leader for an entire episode.

Standard

Episode 4.

Luckily it's only for that episode.

It feels so jarring that I honestly thought for a while that they did it on purpose. But they were so lazy that they didn't bother to clean it up even when it was released on DVD later.

That's still nothing compared to what I just saw.

Aside from about, 3 scenes, only one of which was majorly important, the entire episode looked like what I just posted.

The whole episode looked like garbage. What Buu posted was some of the prettiest animation from that episode
But like, no faces meng. In straight up talking scenes. That's probably as bad as it gets.

SMT x FE spoilers, but I just saw this on my tumblr.

And that this was a choice BY DESIGN, not having poor animation due to laziness/budget cutting an episode.

A good 3-5 seconds after the "food" has moved, Simon and Kamina have yet to react to this.

They skipped the end credit scene for Devastation that teases a sequel.

Resident Evil HD next with Jill Sandwiches.

I still love that the Disney block starts with Super Star Wars.
As the schedule says...
"Beginning of Disney Block. Star Wars is totally a Disney game now."

It's true though. Disney owns Star Wars, "All of it"
that reach for the quote though

I want to say that's intentional, though I haven't actually watched that show. I do know however that other shows by that studio - FLCL, Paranoia Agent, etc. - also use this art style from time to time, especially either for dramatic moments or when there's a lot of action going on.

I'm going to wager the intent is the former, particularly due to the awkward perspectives. It's switching between view-from-a-mouse (induces fear of being crushed) and an out-of-body, vertigo-inducing top-down view from higher than the ceiling should be.
