This is true, but I find it to be confusing not in the "I don't know how this works" kind of way but just in...it's too hectic and random for me to follow enjoyably. It might just be because everybody moves at once and others' trophy effects are taking place at the same time. It's really simple though.
Run around collecting stat boosts (which are identical to the ones in Smash Run) and fighters, steal fighters from opponents when you KO them in battles, trophies are just items that aid you either on the board or in battles, deal with board events on occasion which always tell you what they do...then after the full amount of turns has passed by, participate in a final battle with whatever fighters and stat boosts you have at this point.
That's literally the entire mode like there. Stuff like individual trophy effects, board events, and battle events, are explained every time you play anyway.
I really liked Smash Tour in concept and tried really hard to like it in practice, but I find it more frustrating to play than it's worth, personally. Which doesn't mean it's an awful mode and I'm glad that you are able to enjoy it, it's just not my cup of tea and I can definitely understand why others feel that way.
