It's really simple though.

Run around collecting stat boosts (which are identical to the ones in Smash Run) and fighters, steal fighters from opponents when you KO them in battles, trophies are just items that aid you either on the board or in battles, deal with board events on occasion which always tell you what they do...then after the full amount of turns has passed by, participate in a final battle with whatever fighters and stat boosts you have at this point.

That's literally the entire mode like there. Stuff like individual trophy effects, board events, and battle events, are explained every time you play anyway.
This is true, but I find it to be confusing not in the "I don't know how this works" kind of way but just in...it's too hectic and random for me to follow enjoyably. It might just be because everybody moves at once and others' trophy effects are taking place at the same time.

I really liked Smash Tour in concept and tried really hard to like it in practice, but I find it more frustrating to play than it's worth, personally. Which doesn't mean it's an awful mode and I'm glad that you are able to enjoy it, it's just not my cup of tea and I can definitely understand why others feel that way.

You're going to beat your own kid...?

Didn't Sakurai's wife make the CSS?
Yes she did actually, she makes the interface for all his games. There was once a joke about him and his wife going through a devorce, which was why the CSS looks like that.

Meh, I don't find it too hard to follow I guess. It's hectic, yes, but I still don't think it's as hectic a 3-player Smash match with items on medium can get.

I think it might have helped if the battles weren't one minute though. They are kind of over before they really start which probably adds to the confusion for a lot of people. Same with the Final Battle in Smash Run.

I'm gonna change the roster around a bit.

Now this roster has the following rules.
  • The order is still determined by the debut of the series and whether the series has multiple characters
  • Within each series, I have ordered characters in the order of their first appearance. If they made their first appearances in the same game, it would be in the order of which one you encountered first.
  • DLC and Clone sections are thrown out.
  • Third Party Row still kept
  • Miis remain in the same spot
  • Yoshi was moved out of the Super Mario characters
  • Iggy is meant to mean Random. I chose Iggy because I like Iggy.
Without further ado.

The only aspect that I'd personally change is Cloud's placement, but you do whatever you want with it.

Final Fantasy VII
was originally released in 1997, but the series began in 1987, sometime between Mega Man's and Sonic's debuts (1987 and 1991, respectively). On the actual character select screen in both versions of Smash 4, Ness was placed before Captain Falcon since Mother 1/EarthBound Beginnings (1989) predated the original F-Zero (1990). This was despite the fact that Ness wouldn't make his first appearance until Mother 2/EarthBound in 1994.

I'm probably wrong since I don't know much about F-Zero, but doesn't Ness physically predate Falcon? One of the facts in Smash 4 mentions something about the good captain not actually appearing in-game during the first F-Zero, with it being only the sprites of the vehicles. Dunno when he first properly appeared or if it was before or after EarthBound, though.

For the most part I agree with that but...

:4falcon::4fox::4falco: should be moved above :4littlemac:, and :4gaw::4rob: should be moved to just before Mac and the Pokemon. With how the game seems to prioritize Verteans in the front of each series (mostly), I feel it's only right for Fox and Falco and Falcon to be moved up above the characters with new series, sans the Pokemon since that's an anomaly in and of itself.

And this is just a personal preference, but for that same reason I feel like :4sonic: should be before all the third parties, followed by :4megaman::4ryu::4pacman: and :4cloud:. I dunno, it's just Sonic's status as a veteran that has always made me scratch my head with how he started out at the end of the CSS before the Miis and Random button rather than :4megaman: or :4pacman:. But that's just me.

Sonic's there due to when his series came out.

17,025 donators
when I checked. Just saving that number.

I kind of want to redownload Skullgirls now. .but i'm terrible and have no controller. and im missing most of the DLC :/
Such are the woes of a loser.
I'm downloading the playable prototype now, and I'll let that dictate how much I'm going to donate. I've already committed to "not $0."

Today's Gravity Falls was good, I hope the finale is a one hour special. Some hilarious stuff was going on.
That was pretty good, not amazing but definitely could lead to an amazing finale. The ending caught me by surprise for 2 reasons:
I expected the Shack to be booby trapped, but I didn't expect Stan to have round up citizens and paranormal creatures. This should be interesting.
2) Tyler and Xavier now exist in real life... I don't know how though...
And I think the bubble over the town, is going to lead Bill to Revive Ford and/or seek out Mcguckket to help disable it.

...You said I'm wrong, then basically said I'm right.
Yes, because you right in one context, but wrong in the other, the context of the RPG genre.

...You said I'm wrong, then basically said I'm right. Role-playing games aren't defined by role-playing. That's what I said, and then you made this huge rebuttal post that basically reiterates it. Role-playing is a part of it, occasionally, but not what defines it. What defines these games has nothing to do with what the term "role-playing" would suggest. I'm not saying this is bad or that I disagree with it or something, just that it is what it is and it can easily cause confusion as a result.
While I certainly agree that the name alone can cause confusion, the last post I quoted certainly seemed like you considered anything that involved role playing and RPG. If that wasnt the case and I just misunderstood your post, then my bad

The whole "but then Mario/Metroid/Frogger could be considered an RPG!" thing is kind of dumb, also. Yeah, at its broadest, you're always "playing a role" simply by holding the controller, but the difference between those and Zelda is that Mario and Samus are their own characters while Link is meant to be an avatar for the player. In that sense it makes it more like you are playing the role in this story rather than interacting in what is otherwise a defined character's story. That's why the Zelda series is sometimes considered an RPG series.
People can consider Zelda to be whatever they want, but that wont make it true. I mean some people consider tomatoes a vegetable, but it's a fruit. The confusion comes from people not knowing enough about tomatoes and making judgments on flavor alone.

Your "other examples" are examples of homonyms. Those are just two or more words that have the same spelling but different meanings. It has nothing to do with the discussion of what defines a role-playing game.
Yes, the first part of that is actually my point. Which word or phrase is being used (and thus the accompanying definition) depends on the context in which it's used. "Role playing" in one context (a bedroom) is different from when it's used in another context (a video game genre), so the way I used it works for this discussion.

A better example would be the word "carpet," a floor covering that inherently has nothing to do with cars or pets as its spelling might suggest (origins of the word might ruin this example, I haven't researched that far, but I'm sure you get the picture).
The example you used isnt very accurate, though I understand what you're trying to say. That said, in role playing games at the very least you're playing a role in a game. The definition of carpet has nothing to do with cars or pets. For your example to work more accurately the definition would need to include petting cars....or carring pets XD

BUT, your example also shows that looking at a word alone or components of a word while ignoring context can result in an inaccurate description, so your example gets a pass: C+.

So what I'm getting from this is that we mostly agree, but we're looking at the issue in different ways. Is that about right?

You are correct that Falcon didn't initially appear in-game; only his vehicle did. However, he did appear on the box and the instruction manual.

Is anybody one of those people that are more hyped for #FE's soundtrack then they are the actual game?

Uh. I guess so. My main point from the beginning was that I can see why Zelda would be considered an RPG series by some and that the term is confusing.

Indivisible is almost at 1.1 million and still has 11 days left.
I think we're gonna make it, but just barely.

It's a fair enough point and one I understand. I guess I'm just adamant about making sure people know the difference.

Hey guys, I was wondering if you could provide me with some advice. I'm trying to revamp SG's publicity and get the word out...so I created a YouTube video to showcase the article's we've been publishing. I might do it weekly, so suggestions on the format would be appreciated. @Nirbion made the video!

So what do you guys think? Any suggestions on how to promote SG better? This month we've seen less overall views than the previous....so it's something that I'm really concerned about. I know that you guys are pretty familiar with the content we publish, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to promote it.

Some information:

As much as people want additional translations/ non-fluff pieces those articles tend to do worse in views than opinion articles, sadly. So I'm trying to achieve a balance because I feel that translations and stuff are important for the opinion articles (as they provide background).

Most of our traffic comes from reddit, in waves.
Consider adding some background music - something upbeat, but not too distracting. There are a lot of synth/8-bitty artists out there who thrive on posts like this. This will help keep your viewers distracted from the pauses between your sentences - not that you're pausing too much, in fact you're getting your facts across quite clearly and I wouldn't change much in the way you're speaking.

Found the boss I was missing. Had to do a chain of sidequests in order to fight it. But it was certainly interesting to say the least.

All I have left is to find and fight the black oni and get the last legendary Yo-kai. Maybe finish all the remaining quest as well. Hard to believe I spent so much time on this game.
