Direct sequel from what I can tell. But also looking at it, you would probably be just as confused if you did play the first game. I haven't played or seen the game though.

By my count there are 20 RPG characters.Which is actually more than the platformer characters of which there are 18, or 19 if you include Wario. Though he's clearly based on the WareWare games as opposed to his platformers.

Huh, and I went straight or the obvious one.
I have one question for you guys though.
This is just a question not something I expect.
How would you feel if we got an all veteran trailer in December.
And I mean every single one of them in a single trailer.

And they then said that each one would return at points throughout the year.
With the extension of new characters coming specifically from the Ballot.
To be honest I would just be happy to see all the people get their old mains back.
Just like with the other four that got cut before.

No, I'm serious, Zelda isn't an RPG. It isn't even debatable.
The only thing the series shares with RPGs is the high fantasy setting.

It is action-adventure through and through.

The only Zelda game that could be counted as an RPG is Zelda 2, and that's the odd one out of the series, and besides that, it's still also a 2D action platformer.

We've been so friggin spoiled up till now. We knew Mewtwo was coming since before the Wii U version came out, when we finally got him we got confirmation of Lucas and a timeframe for him, and a ballot to vote on, and when Lucas came out we got 2 other characters and so much other stuff.
Then it went silent, and now we know another character, but for once we don't know anything more than "yep, he's coming to Smash." And a very vauge December stream date... I really want a proper date man.

Apparently the true final is so brutally hard you pretty much have to abuse the system to have a chance.

I have no personal experience though so i cant substantiate the claim. I can confirm however tht the music is some of the best i have ever heard

It's not so much "revisiting" Lylat Wars, as it is a reboot of the franchise. Which means, getting rid of what didn't work. Krystal, despite my enjoyment of her, largely didn't work. Doing a sequel to Star Fox Assault now isn't going to happen when those games don't actually exist in the Star Fox cannon (which is what Reboots do).

It's for the best. Star Fox was left in a horrible position after Assault and was only made worse by Command. A reboot was the only way to get things back on track.

Nintendo was very careful about stating that Zero is a "reimagining". So while you might be right, it's not the obvious truth or anything. It's just as likely that Zero does nothing to the stories in Adventures and Assault. Until we get confirmation that something is very different in the events of Zero that might have repercussions down the road, it's safe to assume it's the same Lylat Wars story with just more details and twists perhaps. Again, similar to how Metroid Zero Mission reintroduced us to Metroid but didn't change the basic major events.

Of course, this is just speculation as to what they're trying to do here. They've given us some clues, but not many. In any case, I don't think any of us can predict what exactly this means to the Star Fox franchise with certainty.

Also, last I checked Command isn't considered entirely canon, which makes sense since it has multiple endings.

It's kind of a thing where Nintendo are damned if they do and damned if they don't... Krystal has her fans, but she's strongly associated with the decline in quality of games. If they cut her, people are going to be upset. If they don't, then people are going to be upset.

In all though, they've got to do right by Star Fox now more than ever. This game HAS to live up to the originals.

I'm biased of course, but my hope was for it to live up to Assault which was probably my favorite Star Fox, though I love them all a lot. 64 is the standard that the rail shooting portion has to live up to gameplay wise, but Assault is currently the standard with all the other content in my eyes. It's a shame they aren't exploring more of what Assault started in Zero, but I've already explained my feelings on that.

You guys bring up an interesting point.

In the Brawl days, Krystal was a prime candidate. Still relevant... still popular... etc...

Now she seems to have fallen out of that place. I'm not sure if she has a chance at all anymore.

She's no longer got the relevancy she once did, but she's still quite popular. Her fanbase is just quieter and perhaps not as optimistic these days. Though we're thinking of raising awareness of her popularity, similar to how K. Rool fans did for their character, so that Nintendo knows she's still loved.

What hurts Krystal's chances in Smash more than anything isn't relevancy though. It's the perception that only one character from a franchise can make it in, and Wolf is the more popular veteran character. His cut took her from next in line to second in line. And with the limited number of DLC, it's easy to assume that Sakurai will only make room for one of them and Wolf gets favor. Which is a shame since I love both characters and would love to see them both in Smash, but I think we'd need to get at least 5 more DLC characters for that to have more than a distant chance. I still don't understand why Wolf was cut. If he never makes it back he'll be the most glaring hole in the roster since he's the only missing character that doesn't have a good reason to be gone and is quite popular.

Ironically, K. Rool is in the same boat as Krystal being less relevant than before and apparently "competing" for a spot with Dixie. Difference being that he's the more popular character within his franchise so you could say it balances things out more.

The best scenario is that they bring in a multiplayer mode like Assault's (that was SO fun, and Nintendo could really do with a Halo-esque multiplayer game). They could throw Krystal on as a playable character for that, hell, throw Fay and Miyu on too.


Timing is everything. Many characters are or were in that same position. Robin, Geninja and Shulk, if absent from this game probably wouldn't have been newcomers in the next Smash. Similarly, Isaac and Krystal missed their opportunities.

I feel like Isaac's still got a chance because of the ballot tbh

It's Sakurai. Anyone's got a chance because of the ballot so long as he has interest. I know some are more likely/popular than others, but it's hard for us to make the calls when we have been known to guess wrong before. Mention who had a chance last month and Cloud wouldn't be on anyone's top 10.
