Well, you see, that trailer kinda blew me away. It just confirms what i have been sayign before: the personality of Paper Mario is pushed a lot which makes the story very fun to follow despite the lack of diversity in npc. However, with the napkin thing and now these........we never saw paper Mario like this, we mostly saw him doing specific stuff that are simple like getting into an airplane or folder on himself to gain more height or turn on his side, these were classic. This game basically is like "not only he can do that BUT HE CAN DO WAY MROE!" So not only they represent Paper Mario neatly, they EXPAND him......

Guys, I am preordering it.

I now know enough to tell you this: don;t expect SS even if the assets are based on SS. Seriously, at this point, I have no doubts on how well portrayed the paper Mario series is and I already got interested with the m&l battle system expansion where the base i already kinda liked from DT, also Paper Mario has action command that suits him better.

Now i officially can;t wait

Saw the beginning of this discussion a couple of pages back. And I'd like to return to it.

Even though Smash and Pokemon have gone mainly by the games... I have always considered the Anime to actually be where the characters are from. I'd argue that each character in the game is directly influenced by it's appearance and attitude in the show. Considering how Sakurai loves to give the characters personality. This makes a lot of sense as it is the perfect place to find a character/personality for this rather blank Pokemon. (They are pretty much animals after all).

Pikachu is Ash's Pikachu. The fun happy attitude and sudden competitiveness is just like Pikachu. Along with it's obsession with wearing hats.

Jigglypuff was undeniably added to 64 due to her popularity in the show. Without that factor (plus Kirby's model), there would be no reason for Jiggs to be in the game.

Mewtwo was considered for 64 around the time of the First Movie. That was the peak of Pokemon hype. Who was Mewtwo? How powerful was he? Would he defeat Ash? That momentum carried over to Melee's release. And Mewtwo's attitude is also, once again, taken directly from the anime.

Lucario. Another pokemon added conveniently right after it was a star of the Anime. It had it's own movie. I was starting to get back into Pokemon at this time. And I remember how big the hype was for Lucario. Lucario speaking and such is also straight out of the movies. This is a trait that is known to be unique to the Lucario from the film.

Pokemon Trainer in Brawl is the main exception to this theory of mine. I'm sure you could argue about how Ash owned all those pokemon at one point. But the character obviously represents the original games. BUT. Maybe this is another point for my theory? What if this character was intended to be the Pokemon Rep for the games specifically? Red is the only character to not appear in the Anime, and the entire style of the character is an homage to Red and Blue. I would argue that this character was made specifically to NOT be from the anime.

Charizard in Smash 4. While the argument can be made that it is just the Charizard from the Pokemon trainer, I believe it to be Ash's. In it's announcement trailer, it is show buddy buddy next to Pikachu. Many of Charizard's actions are similar to Ash's as well. It's willingness to jump into battle in the trailer, the addition of Seismic Toss to his moveset, and more if I continued to dig.

Last we have Greninja, the main outlier. We all know he was chosen based off of early XY designs. But the suaveness of Greninja in the game is pretty similar to what has been seen of the Pokemon in the anime so far. This one I do not have much evidence for. But the fact that Ash has a Greninja is a pretty major factor.

So I was thinking about this for a while. Each Third Party Character (& Mario) are iconic in their own right. Basically Kings in there own domain. When thinking about that, I categorized what each 3rd Party character (& Mario) would be a king of essentially. Here's what I came up with:

- King of the Industry

Mario is essentially one of the most important reasons the industry is where its at today. He is really one of the driving forces that made the NES sell what it did and saved the Industry from collapsing.

Spoiler: Mega Man

- King of Platformers (and the Fan-Favorite)

Mega Man back in 1987 really changed the way on how platformers are made and put a unique twist on things. He also had some kick*** music that's still great today! No wonder he was probably the most requested Third-Party character in the pre-E3 2013 era!

Spoiler: Sonic

- The King of Rivals

Sonic the Hedgehog is a character that really challenged the Mustachio plumber. He was specifically designed of being an Anti-Mario in mind with a cool attitude and sonic speed! No wonder he's in Smash!

- The King of Icons

If you thought Mario was iconic, Pac-Man is the iconic of the iconic. If you were to ask anyone who this Yellow Pizza-faced hero is, 99% of them would most likely recognized this pellet-eating monster. It gets nothing greater than that!

- King of Fighters (Not SNK's series unfortunately...)

This character's game is what really set the Fighting game genre a blaze. While the first Street Fighter game was arguably lackluster, the series didn't really take off until it's legendary sequel Street Fighter II which was nearly ported to everything back in the 90's. That game is what really set the basis for fighting games and what arguably made the genre so popular. Since Smash is about celebrating gaming as a whole, he fits perfectly!

- King of RPGs

While this might be a little debatable among some, Final Fantasy VII is what really made the RPG genre so popular here in North America and other places around the world. With its stellar cutscenes and good graphics, it revolutionized the Genre and set a standard on what other RGP's would almost be like. Not to mention, Smash does a very good job with the portrayal of Cloud. It makes him stand out from all the rest.

So... what do you guys think?

You know, this is gonna sound really strange and offensive to some people here. But honestly, I say for Smash to truly represent the pinnacles of gaming, and what truly changed the industry, you would remove Banjo and add Master Chief.

I'm not saying I want him in Smash. I'm just saying for this picture to truly feel complete, you would need him. Redefined the shooter genre, brought in a new age of Console Wars, and continues to sell games phenomenally. Banjo just happened to have some great games on the N64... he didn't really change Gaming.

Every Character here is highly influential to the whole of gaming. And I don't think there's much argument against Chief truly completing this game's arsenal of What made Gaming what it is now.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not advocating for the Chief to be in Smash. I'd be down with it and I'd feel it'd truly round out the roster to represent all of Gaming. But I don't really want to see that until we have all the Nintendo stars we need. I feel like if we had all the above characters in the game in Smash 5, then it would be awesome to see Nintendo reach out to their biggest competitors, Microsoft and Sony, and ask for 2 of their biggest characters to put in Smash. One might say Cloud is already one for Playstation, but he is a Squenix character. Microsoft should obviously allow Master Chief to be in.

yeah the overview, the ad is so weird anyway and has nothign new if you watch the overview (only that it';s a weird ad......).

The reason i asked is because I was wondering if it coudl hint to paper luigi like we heard nothing of him.

ypu would know why i didn;t preorder yet if you search my posts on this thread, basically,, it looked good, but I had doubts cause SS stuff. With the footages, I no longer think these doubts would matter enough to make the game not good to me so I basically am preordering very soon. You know that I woudln;t preorder a game that had SS problems so I waited.

Btw, digital, i;ts still m&l, I will only buy physical if it is paper mario game, plus my sd card still has plenty of spaces free

Master Chief like Snake is an icon that feels like you can't accurately portray him in Smash.

Honestly Snake in Brawl (to me at least) felt like a compromised Snake. There was so much more you could do with him and they didn't reach it. Of the third parties we've had he's definitely the most hollow in terms of his moveset and repping what he's all about.

Sakurai did the best he could however.

Chief would be that only magnified IMO.

You can't argue this guy is the BIG MAN for stealth games. He literally created them: Metal Gear made the stealth genre. Without him, "Assassin's Creed" would be unheard of, and other classics like "Thief" a distant memory. Ask any big gamer who this guy is, and they'll know. He's rosen far behind a "gritty bearded white man" shooter hero; He's Solid Snake, and for that reason, fans love him. Kojima and Sakurai are also close friends.
Snake's so sneaky, he sneaked right out of Smash...

I'm a Banjo supporter, but I know he isn't really iconic especially compared to the likes of everyone else in the picture. This picture was merely something I wanted to do since I'd be really hyped for Banjo's inclusion

Going back to the most iconic video game characters, I agree 100% that Master Chief deserves a spot in that list (I'm not talking about Smash). The only other characters that aren't in that picture that also come to my mind right now are Snake and Lara Croft.

Every Character here is highly influential to the whole of gaming. And I don't think there's much argument against Chief truly completing this game's arsenal of What made Gaming what it is now.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not advocating for the Chief to be in Smash. I'd be down with it and I'd feel it'd truly round out the roster to represent all of Gaming. But I don't really want to see that until we have all the Nintendo stars we need. I feel like if we had all the above characters in the game in Smash 5, then it would be awesome to see Nintendo reach out to their biggest competitors, Microsoft and Sony, and ask for 2 of their biggest characters to put in Smash. One might say Cloud is already one for Playstation, but he is a Squenix character. Microsoft should obviously allow Master Chief to be in.

I'd like to bring up a counter to your point in the disclaimer about Microsoft and Sony characters, you say that you don't want to see Sony or Microsoft characters until all the Nintendo stars we need. Something I would just like to say, Smash is still a Nintendo crossover first and foremost, allowing in 3rd parties is something that makes sense, cause a lot of them are a part of Nintendo history, but adding Microsoft and Sony characters are what you would call Smash finally jumping the shark, seeing as Smash is meant to be a crossover between Nintendo games, adding Microsoft and Sony would mean that Smash has lost its way.

Just my small thought on some stuff said in the disclaimer.

But like you said Master Chief doesn't belong in Smash, he maybe an icon, but is still a 1st party Microsoft character, which is why he isn't happening.

I'm a Banjo supporter, but I know he isn't really iconic especially compared to the likes of everyone else in the picture. This picture was merely something I wanted to do since I'd be really hyped for Banjo's inclusion

Going back to the most iconic video game characters, I agree 100% that Master Chief deserves a spot in that list (I'm not talking about Smash). The only other characters that aren't in that picture that also come to my mind right now are Snake and Lara Croft.

Final Fantasy is a Sony series, console appearance-wise. I'm not saying Master Chief is more then 2% more likely now, but he's 1% more likely now that Cloud's in.
