Did some digging, and as a person who's supposed to be PR I am generally baffled as her general actions did every no-no in PR:
- Bring her personal opinions, especially regarding any sort of Pedo stuff, and easily linked it to her business (and in extension to Nintendo)
- Constantly tried to dodge responsibility, tried to blame amorphous imageboard peeps and trolls and fan the flames often (she used to browse 4chan just to find what mean things people used to say about her for whatever reason, certainly didn't help)
- Then when questioned tried to get into Twitter slapfights over consumers who may or may not be involved & blame people for something she wrote in her own words (again while still with Nintendo)
Things only seemed to have picked up any sort of notoriety because of
Jamie Walton & the
Wayne Foundation getting involved, and thus became a huge mess that no one wanted to deal with since Soccer Moms soon follow after her.
As PR this is reeks of incompetence, unprofessional, and just being bad at your one job since this issue was actually pretty easy to squash if you actually were a decent PR person. If you're the face of a company you don't have time to be constantly arguing with trolls, trying to find blame and what mean things they may or may not have done to you since it just burys you further (as we've seen in other controversies). Funny thing is, a lot of people, whether Fire Emblem peeps, chan goers, twitter peeps or whatever didn't seem to want to get involved and tried to distance themselves from her since they saw it as a distraction to other issues but once Jamie got involved it was clear where this was heading.
