A new Mario Kart game has been announced, and they are allowing non-mario characters as DLC.

Now you have to choose 10 non-mario characters (and you can choose anyone from Smash and even Super Mario Maker, so if you want to choose the Majohng piece or that one anime girl, be my guess) as drivers for this new installment.

I've been seeing a lot of S-Rank weapons in online but I only have the axe and the tome
Does anyone know how to get them?

Chapter 7 has some mid game spoilers already
Though you can play it without Birthright, you really just need to finish one of them first

Uniqueness/Recognizability-People need to be able recognize them...they often have very unique designs that make them stand out...usually on the cartoony side as some of the most recognizable characters tend to not be too realistic with a few exceptions...usually you can recognize these characters by their silhouettes alone...

Marketability/Appeal-Let's look at Pikachu for example...one of the biggest reasons why Pokemon is as big as it is, is because of this Electric Mouse...it is cute enough for girls but still cool enough for the boys...(coupled with its very unique and recognizable design) even non-pokemon fans know who pikachu is because of how much he is marketed...

as stated previously a lot of mascots tend to be cartoony, which allows for them to be marketed towards a younger audience which is where the majority of gamers come from...

Im going to answer my own question:

10 non-Mario characters (in no particular order) that i want in MK NX:

-Ness/Lucas.
-Balloon Fighter: Not gonna lie, this one is just because of my nostalgia and bias towards Balloon Fight.
-Marth/Roy: I only include Marth here because i think having a FE and excluding Marth would be weird.
-Cloud: With Fenfir included.
-Mega Man: With Rush as his main vehicle.
-Inklings: YOU ARE IN MARIO KART N*gets shot*
-Fox: A landmaster (or walker)- inspired kart would be great for him.
-Pikachu.
-Kirby/Dedede/MetaKnight/Waddle Dee: Hey, unless Air Ride 2 is made, this is the best we can get.
--Speed Racer. Sonic: What else?

Honorable Mentions:
-Any other non-Mario character that was already playable in a Mario Kart game (Link in MK8, Pac-Man in MK GP and R.O.B in MK DS). I didn't include them here because i felt it would be redudant to mention them, since i wanted to bring new ideas.

Just got this in the mail:

It's a fully translated version of the Famicom Pirate Pokemon Yellow with revamped music. It's basically a fully playable Gen 1 on the NES that uses ideas/mechanics from Gen 2/3 as well as mostly positive minor changes that everyone has been asking such as no more HM slaves and item drops.

I think I may start a thread in the Pokecenter just for fun/keeping track of all the differences.

A character doesn't need all of these at once, but:

Appeal: I feel this is most important. This is essentially what the character "is". It's the single word or two that comes to mind when you think of the character. Mario is "jolly". Sonic is "cool/edgy". Pikachu is "cute". If your character doesn't have appeal, then it doesn't know what demographic it wants. You basically have to decide on this before you even start drawing the character.

Likability: Put simply, the character has to be someone people can like to begin with. If your character is a COMPLETE **** or whiny brat or something, and nothing else, then it's hard for people to like them. They can have these flawed elements, but it can't define them. They either have to develop past them into a more positive character (a whiny character that stays that way just won't be marketable), or show them in moderation (for example, Sonic can be very arrogant and have a real sharp tongue, but he's mostly only like that to the bad guys or rivals. To his friends, he's generally very polite and sweet).

Signature Traits: Every good mascot has signature traits that are always associated with them, even if a newer, less popular character does something similar. This can be things ranging from iconic poses, signature abilities, and repeatable quotes.

Relatability: People do tend to get more attached to something if they see themselves, or someone they love in it. This especially applies to characters. This generally means your character can't be too perfect too. If they're too perfect, then nobody can see themselves in them, because nobody is perfect in the real world. Just make sure your character has an element people can relate to. A lot of teenagers relate to Sonic's young, free, and rebellious spirit, for example. Mario even has an obscure bit of relatability, in that he seems to just have a jolly old time with everything, and a lot of people just want that too, especially adults who have a lot of stress in their lives.

Layers/Realistic Feelings and Depth: This is more of a necessity in recent times. Basically, I feel in this day and age, characters need to have layers and depth to be successful mascots. Characters like Mario and Pikachu don't have this because they debuted in a time where there wasn't as fierce a competition in their genre. And they remain this way because everyone already knows who they are. However, with so many classic mascots still around these days, New mascots need something fresh, and having layers and depth is perfect. This is one of the reasons I feel Shovel Knight caught on so much and became a beloved character so quickly. He isn't just a one-note character that you can sum up through his appeal, he transcends that and surprises you with how deep a character he is, and how real he feels at times (without spoiling anything).

These are just some key things I could think of. I hope someone finds this useful.

Ohhhh that sounds fun.

First, I'd have :4link::4villager:Isabelle:4rob:and:4pacman: since they've been in Mario Kart before, and they have their respective karts.

For other characters, I'd pick:

:4olimar: - with a Kart based on the Hocotate Ship.
:4littlemac: - Rides a bike based on Doc Louis' bike.
:4mewtwo: - with a Kart based on Zero-One. We've dreamed of creating the world's fastest driver...and we succeeded.
:4corrin: - >Defend Hoshido >Side with Nohr >Pick another option >Join Smash >Start your engines. Bike based on dragon form.
Inkling - Just fits too well. Squid-shaped kart.

Currently playing through Revelations. So far, it's been OK, though I do have a couple complaints about it so far.

The maps I've found to be rather gimmicky by comparison, and unfortunately not in a good way as they can get rather tedious depending on the map.

The second complaint I do have with that is that Revelation's unit balance is close to FE6 in terms of how it's handled. Some units are phenomenal and there's no reason to not use them (ex. Camilla), some are great, but have a hard time making it onto a team because of how good the former group is (and the surprisingly low deployment slots), and the last group is dead on arrival and have no chance of getting used without grinding (ex. Nyx, who joins in Chapter 15 with the same base stats she had in Chapter 9 of Conquest). It's still nice to have those units available since half are locked out depending on the route, but it's also a shame that some just fall to the wayside due to how they were implemented into the game.

That sounds pretty dang cool. Too bad I don't have a working NES. Or just all my games are broken. One or the other

Despite the fanservice, Fates has alot of features I hope return. Not so much the split versions or Phoenix Mode, but still alot of features I do want to return in future games.

Also, I do like that carving names for Forged weapons is better than Awakening's Naming for Forge weapons. Not perfect yet, but definitely better than Awakening's. Depending on what you're naming your weapon, it can still end before the letter limit, but the letter limit is pretty high compared to Awakening.
In Awakening, I think you could only have up to 10-12 letters. In Fates, you can have up to 16. Basically, it can only have 9 Cs, but it can have 16 Js. You couldn't name a weapon Katarina's Bolt in Awakening, but you can in Fates.

The comments are also pretty accurate. Although some cool ideas were brought up, like what if the games are in the past, what if it counts as it's own thing? Just for the 20th anniversary.

My favorite comment was the one that said the team that makes fake leaks must have made the ORAS games.

Not only is that adorable, but the baby and I have the exact same strategy when we play SF. :3
That is the only correct way to play street fighter!

It was, and I do understand going for that since it needed its own identity aside from being the "Golden route", it's just that some of the gimmicks it chooses to use can be rather tedious to play. I would've liked a better balance with those gimmicks as some are fun ideas on paper, but can be pretty sluggish in execution.

And yeah, I've heard of poor Odin...



I don't think I'm overexaggerating when I call him the 'Wendy' of Fates.

Finally the fan game I've been watching has a trailer! Wish it showed the fakemon in action though!

Oh and in Official Pokemon Related News, Masuda and the other two main delvelopers( whose names I don't remember), are going to be on the new Pokemon Sunday show in Japan within the next month or so.( maybe a little later) So we may get actual sun and moon info soon...

I'm trying to figure out how I could make a procedurally generated sandbox game easier to feel emotionally attached to.

I'm too lazy and confused to have had sufficient practice for this, but what I came up with so far is a mission type thing.

Basically, you are outside of a toy store where you can buy decorative items for your *wherever*. Beside you is a box. If you put a toy that has never been placed in the world (simulating being unopened) into the box, you permanently remove the item from your inventory. However, if you go to an orphanage in another part of the town, you can see the children there playing with any toys you have donated and potentially even commenting on how much they love them.

From there, you could work with this by having one of two possible negative scenarios being given a random chance of generating.

Negative Scenario A. Has one or more types of toys being removed based off of the political affiliation of either the toy drive or the person running the orphanage. If the player wishes to stop this, their mission is to secretly record video footage of the person taking away the toys being absurd with their political affiliation and upload it onto the internet. Upon successfully completing the mission, public outcry will result in the person who took away the toys being fired or quitting.

Negative Scenario B. Has ALL the toys being taken away and either kept in the office of the corrupt individual or just outright being burned in front of the children. The prompt here is to simply do as you see fit according to your moral compass. Either find evidence of child abuse/neglect and report it to the police, or just beat the tar out of the guy until he can't move enough to be a jerkwad. If you do the former and then go into the local prison for whatever reason later, you may even see him among the inmates serving his sentence.

Started the Bravely Second Demo.

Writing still feels good, even though I haven't witnessed much.

Music is still pretty damn good. The song that replaces "That Person's Name Is" feels like a step down but it might grow on me. The regular battle theme sounds like something out of a boss theme. Conflict's Chime was still pretty amazing but I think I like this one more.

Bravely Second Demo has me excited and im sad I haven't been able to play much of it.

Iirc GE is going to increase in price as more content is added and price will pobs be discounted for those who already have it.

Ugh, can someone give me a hand with Fates?

I'm on the Chapter 23 with Camilla and I'm getting my rear end handed back on a platter. Primarily the stupid Dragon Veins she has. I tried to stay in the alleyways so the Blasts would have minimal effect and pass over, but she can use the damn things more than once in the same exact reigon, which is STUPID. It wouldn't be a major problem were it not for the sheer number of enemies that are really hard to approach without getting ganged up on. I'm honestly at a loss. I lost 2 units in chapter 22 and I really don't want to take more casualties now...

Those are both poisonous to dogs.
