Indeed.

But in all these years, he's never dabbled into grass?

Most people have at least tried all three at one point.
Well don't worry Swamp, I've only chosen the starter once, but Grass is something I have dabbled extensively in. However it's usually something I don't get much out of unless Fire is also present.

*coughs*

I really can't justify picking feraligatr when you get a free shiny gyarados

He's cool and all, but...just can't
Ironically, for me it was always the other way around. :p The shiny Gyradous always sucked for me, so I always just ended up having it very underleveled while Gatr always ended up being amazingly overleveled somehow....

Though keep in mind, I'm talking about HG/SS(Those brought me back into pokemon when they came out, I was still a kid at the time.). So that factors in too. If it were in the originals, yeah, I probably would've found typhlosion more useful.

But it doesn't matter, I'm going typhlosion if I ever start them again anyway.

If I started with Feraligatr I also wouldn't bother with the shiny Gyarados

And, honestly typhlosion was probably more useful in gen 2 than now. I still pick him anyway. To this day Gyarados is the stronger physical water type

Typhlosion needs an electric attack to replace his loss of thunderpunch IMO

We'll see what's in store for us, whether its the Sun and Moon and possible confirmation on the Pokemon list...or something else entirely...cheers...

I kind of feel bad I dislike gen 5 so much because it does have some cool pokemon

That steel/ ground mole. The dark/ dragon hydra. The fire/bug moth.

I kind of want to give it another chance. Maybe I'll have a funner time with Emboar

Meganium is by far the worst Grass starter. Which is a shame because I love that line.

Samurott is the worst Water because there are a million better options and it adds nothing.

And I'd probably say Delphox is the Worst fire... but Typhlosion, Emboar and even non Mega 'zard are all pretty useless (Fire typing gets so jibbed though).

I actually confess that I do have a Serperior. :shades:

I'm now at the finale of Pokemon Y - the Kalos Pokemon League. It's time for a new Champion to appear...

For how much I like Torterra he's probably low on the grass scale as well

I'm pretty sure I can 1hko torterra with ice beam from Blastoise

True. His Ground secondary typing probably only just puts him above. I guess you can use a Curse Quake Wood Hammer set with base 110 attack and low speed either way.

Compared to a defensive grass type lol.

I have used a Contrary Serperior.

I actually calculated it out, and a Torterra has a chance of beating Blastoise

IF

Blastoise doesn't mega evolve

Torterra uses Wood Hammer

NEITHER crit

Blastoise has less than 76 EV's in speed (Which common mega set uses 72)

Torterra HAS 252 EV's in speed (Assuming Blastoise has 72 EV's in speed, otherwise he'd need 180 to guarantee outspeeding Blastoise (With no speed EV's) or 176 to tie

Blastoise doesn't have a lot of HP EV's

...

and a couple other variables I forgot... (I might have got the math wrong, I got all confused at one point)

In other words: Ice beam isn't a guaranteed 1HKO, but it's pretty dang close and a lot of other variables depend on if it is or not

Venusaur was easy mode and part Poison type which is a damn death sentence in Gen 1
Venusaur makes the start of the game easier, however it sucks later in the game as there as so many Poison-type Pokémon that it can only take down with weak Normal-type moves, and it's also pretty bad against the 4th to 7th Gyms and the Elite Four. Blastoise is the real easy mode as he's pretty good for Brock and Mt. Moon and by the time you get to Lt. Surge and Erika you already have plenty of Pokémon who can take them on so his weaknesses aren't exposed. It's also by far the best of the three once you get to the Elite Four, particularly against Lance as it can learn Blizzard.

As for the hot topic atm:

To be honest Emboar is nowhere near my favorite Fire-type starter, it's just that the 5th Gen starters were all really unappealing and the other Fire-types are outmatched by Pokémon I like more.

Gen 4 starters during Gen 4
Infernape: OU
Torterra: UU
Empoleon: OU

Gen 5 starters during Gen 5
Emboar: RU
Seperior: NU
Samurott: NU

The weakest (Less useful) of the Gen 4 starters was better in his day than the strongest (Most useful) of the gen 5 starters, who ironically was emboar, during his day

That's how you can like the gen 4 starters and dislike all the gen 5 starters

Edit: Generation 5 was the first time I felt how weak the starters were compared to the other pokemon, especially after having powerful starters in generation 4

Wait, I didn't see this reply before, what?
It's not his aim. I'm aware.
Neither was it for Lucius, Libra, the male Heron whose name I forgot, etc.
But the point being that Libra's voices, and that of "Foleo" had androgyny to it.
I personally felt a bit disappointed when his voice was as deep as it was.
Because it does break a bit of a tradition. A "running joke" of character design.
And he does little to subvert it besides have a non-confusable voice in English.

It doesn't help that he really didn't have a role in my team and only got used in Velouria's paralogue to pop a dragon vein.
Lucius didn't have a voice so it's kinda hard to say how he'd sound
But it makes sense that his voice would be deep, it's not like his body would know if he needs to sound androgenous
And you need to read his supports then

Day 26 : Where do you thonk Nintendo is headed in Japan ?

...Always in Kyoto, Japan ? I admit I don't understand this question...

Day 27 : Unpopular Nintendo opinion

There is no "Big 3" within the Nintendo franchises.

It's there no one else who ditched the starters at the first opportunity as a challenge? I've played Emerald like that.

Not for a challenge, but the first and only game I played while ditching my starter the first chance I got was gen 5

But, TBH, I probably had a stronger team because of it

The challenge would have been keeping my starter

If it counts - I released my Grovyle in Sapphire for no real reason. It's one mistake I'm not afraid to put on my regime as a Trainer.

Oh yeah! Its a Topic I know now!
I've always picked Fire Type starters in Pokemon,my Cousin Picked Grass, and My Little Brother Water. I liked how it all worked out. on separate runs I'll pick something else.

Also Venusaur is kicking butt in my Neo Y Run.

I have done it at last - I have beaten Pokemon Y!! :D
Final Team:
Is this a Nuzlocke or did you pick that team? Weird mix of Pokemon. No offence haha.

My current X team (Victory Road) is Chandelure, Togekiss, Conkledurr, Scizor, Tyranitar and Dragalge.

Some I like and some I've never used.

Togekiss is one of my fave Pokemon. So is Scizor. Not enjoying using Dragalge or Tyranitar but cbf switching teams.

Like they're good Pokemon, just boring. Although Dragale is super diverse.

*Emboar and Delphox*
That's almost as ****ty taste about your hair
dang it Anna!

Emboar was alright, but probably the Fire Type Starter I like the least. I think at that point I was hoping for something that wasn't Fire/Fighting.
Delphox broke the Fire/Fighting Chain with Psychic typing,so I had to pick it.

Since it's Pokemon day, I thought I'd share a "Pokemon memory" of mine (not like I really have anything to contribute to a hard-core Pokemon discussion, haha).

I had a custom made Charmander cake when I turned 6.

I remember it tasting super good. Should go without saying that Charmander was my favourite.

To get his supports past the C rank with both parents and brother, he needs to prove a role in my team and be used for combat. That didn't happen this time around with AOE Heal Zone Azura, Regenning Wolf people, and Elise.

But onto the starter discussion
Blastoise
Typhlosion
Sceptile
Torterra
Samurott
Greninja

C'mon fire types, step it up.

The starters I picked were:
Blue - Bulbasaur
Gold - Cyndaquil
Sapphire - Torchic
Pearl - Chimchar
Black - Oshawott
Black 2 - Tepig
Y - Froakie

Only in the first generation I picked a grass starter. Overall, I seem to have a preference for Fire starters.

The latest two Water type starters were my favorite of their respective starter trios... Must be because they're a samurai and a ninja. :p
