- He's from a western based franchise that does like trash in Japan
- It has video game history but the history with Nintendo is so goddamn negative that it hurts them.
- You're going to get a much more Injustice like Scorpion where it's censored.
- He's from a franchise where the only thing it was known for was the violence and while that's big for the creation of the ESRB, that's mostly a western thing
- While a lot of franchises can fit into Smash well, MK is one of those series that just couldn't fit
- You think Konami is bad now, try getting through WB Games which is a massive ***** of a company and there are even bigger scumbags (see their PC ports, optimization, dropped all DLC content on Injustice for Wii U and their DLC plans and content)
- The minor and less demand for the series.
- It'll Jack the rating up to a Teen Rating (any cameo MK characters made always jacked the rating up. Bayonetta barely went through but was censored in a sense to keep that rating overall. MLB Slugfest had Sub-Zero and Scorpion as secret characters and the rating had to jump to a T.
- He just overall doesn't fit that audience and isn't worth putting in.
Those are just the main reasons and there's many more. The only reason I feel like the possibility of that is because of Ryu being in Smash. Not everyone can get in and not anybody can just be in the game.
1. Again, I've acknowledged this is an issue, but even then, I've not seen any concrete proof of Mortal Kombat selling badly in Japan. At most I've heard is that it's meh-ly received, and if Yoshinori Ono's reverence for the series is anything to go by, it's can't be looked down upon THAT badly.
2. Negative? Mortal Kombat has been on every main Nintendo console barring the Wii U since it's debut on the SNES, and the SNES versions of the original trilogy are individually the best selling versions of each title. Mortal Kombat has better Nintendo history and loyalty than Street Fighter does, which jumped ship almost entirely after the SNES, and look how that turned out. If that's negative history you must have been LIVID when Ryu got in.
3. Yes, that's the idea. I even used Injustice as a good example of how to faithfully keep Scorpion intact without needing blood and gore. And considering Netherrealm themselves made Injustice and added Scorpion of their own volition, I'd say they agree. He also went on to be the best selling DLC character for Injustice as well, so clearly there's appeal to the character beyond the gratuitous violence, even amongst fiction juggernauts like Superman and Batman.
4. It is known for it's violence, but it's also known for being co-grandfather of the fighting game genre alongside Street Fighter. After Mortal Kombat came out, the amount of copycat fighters and games that attempted to cash in on its runaway success, like Bloody Roar, Killer Instinct, and more can only be compared to the rush of copycat "animal with attitude" games following Sonic's success. Mortal Kombat's impact on fighting game history isn't to be taken lightly. There's a reason Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter is one of the most requested crossovers period.
5. Before her reveal, Bayo couldn't fit. Before his reveal, Cloud couldn't fit. If I'd suggested Snake before Brawl was revealed, people would've said he couldn't fit. People even said this about Pac-Man. And look where we are. "Couldn't fit" doesn't cut it anymore.
6. Konami swore off non-mobile gaming altogether. Konami fired one of the most prestigious game developers of all time from his own franchise. Konami turned the historic Castlevania franchise into a porn-filled pachinko machine. WB Games may have had some missteps, but they're NOWHERE near as bad as current Konami. And as for licensing the character, Sakurai went through the pretty-much-literal minefield that was licensing Cloud to be in Smash. In his own words, it was a miracle. Scorpion would be far easier, especially considering Ed Boon, his creator and the one who holds the rights to the character, actually wants Scorpion to be in Smash Bros.
7. This one I'll give you, but for the most part I'd say that would be due to nobody thinking it was even possible. In the advent of the one-two punch that was Cloud and Bayonetta getting into Smash one right after the other, I'm expecting Scorpion's demand and Smash fanbase to snowball considerably on the road to Smash 5.
8. Again, I'd expect and want Scorpion to be toned down like Bayonetta. If he were to get in Smash he'd leave his bloodletting, spine-ripping tendencies behind in Mortal Kombat, where it belongs. I don't want him ripping Kirby's spine out in Smash, god no. None of his basic, iconic moveset is any worse than what Smash already has. Also, MLB Slugfest's T rating is due to
comic mischief and mild violence. It has nothing to do with Scorpion and Sub-Zero, and has more to do with the On-Fire mechanic, where players that were doing really well would appear to catch on fire, meaning impressionable children might try to imitate their baseball heroes.
9. Again, Bayonetta didn't fit the audience. Cloud didn't. Snake didn't. This is both opinion and also one that's demonstrably false. I want Scorpion in Smash Bros. and I play Smash Bros. and Mortal Kombat. There's other people in this very thread who have said they would want Scorpion in. There is absolutely an audience for the character, and one that can co-exist in Smash. Bayonetta's series is littered with bloody body parts, sexual content, swearing, and even depictions of **** played up for laughs. If SHE fits the audience of Smash Bros., anyone can. Worth putting in is subjective, and considering Scorpion's legacy, I'd heavily heavily disagree with you. I'd say he's one of the most worthy third party characters left, if not THE most worthy.
