Actually, not really.

Lets say the next smash roster has 64 characters.

That's 64^2 combinations of 2v2 to balance.
If we add 3 playable characters then it 67^2 combinations.
But if we add three assist characters that EVERYONE can use then it's (64*3)^2 =192^2 combinations.

EDIT: my math can be considered off since due to mirror matches and including scenarios like mario vs luigi and luigi vs mario as two different matchups, but the point still stands since it applies to everything.

Midna's got a lot more than that....In addition to her teleporting ability and her hair hand she can also summon shadow wolves as seen in Hyrule Warriors (Midna is pretty well known for her association with wolves in general so it just makes sense)...she also can shoot small energy projectiles as well as phase through objects, and even imitate other characters (like what she did briefly for Colin and Ilia)...they could also implement the dark energy attack (used with Wolf Link but I can still see Midna do something similar on her own)...as well as the use of creative licence to showcase other forms of Twili magic...

I just rememvered that I was working on a solo Midna moveset a while back that I never finished...perhaps when I finishe my Elma moveset I'll see of I can get around to that...

Marth is functional in his game.....s
Roy, to me, because an escort mission in some of the last chapters before his promotion.
And yes, reclassing in general makes things incredibly broken because it was the case in FE11/12 as well while children characters were not nearly as potent in FE4.

Now that DLC is finished, who was your #1 most-wanted newcomer that didn't make the cut this time? Aside from K. Rool and Ridley (and perhaps Inklings as well) as I know a lot of people will say them and the answers may be homogenous in that regard.

Mine was and always will be Toad, followed by Bandana Dee, Wonder Red, Dillon, Hawlucha, Sukapon, (Inklings) and Sami in any order.

Rayman is number one most wanted, but aside from him, I really want to see Dr. Eggman, even though that's pretty much a pipe dream.

As someone who actually is developing a game, don't assume such things require little work. Actually developing and implementing mechanics isn't as easy as it looks. No matter how simple it looks.

And even then this mechanic doesn't even look simple to implement. Come on dude.

And I've developed games too.

It wouldn't take much work or rebalancing. The animations and functions would all be done, since they use existing moves. It's just a matter of agreeing on a purpose for each move from the partner character and having them drop in.

I am also talking in relation to a AAA studio of veteran game devs. What might take you or me a long time on our own, would take them no time at all together.

Doesn't seem to be a difference too drastic, to be honest.

Plus, he's only in full dragon form for a few seconds in only a few moves (4 total, counting the Final Smash).

And he's a shapeshifter, meaning he could potentially control the size of his dragon form... I guess?

Ridley is not impossible. Ridley is just ****ing hard to work with thanks to his unorthodox body proportions.

Given there's a tight development schedule, they can't have the luxury to spend all the resources and budget in a single character, especially if they're trying to cram as many characters as possible into the game.

Funnily enough, pressing both the attack and special button results in a Smash attack.

To be honest I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Ridley got in next time just because Sakurai has changed his mind before on issues this specific and we don't know what a new director might think.

Now, I'm not going to EXPECT him, because size isn't the only thing going against him and it's entirely possible that Nintendo will keep with the philosophy into the next game, but if he does pop up I'm not gonna act blindsided.
