Scorpion: Probably the biggest WTF on my roster, one that I fully agree with, and I see Scorpion being more of a Cloud situation in terms of being a huge impossible shock when he's revealed versus being a natural though. But here's why I think he's possible. Smash is inevitably going to have to reach out to more and more third party companies in the future to keep the big hits rolling. Smash 4's biggest bombshells were almost all third party characters, and I don't see that slowing down in future installments. And of the gaming icons left, I don't think any bigger gaming icons that aren't in Smash now than Scorpion. Mortal Kombat is a massive, incredibly successful franchise, with it's tenth main series game launching this year to rave reviews and reception. It's also one of the most recognizable franchises of all time, and Scorpion himself is one of the biggest gaming icons of all time. Most anyone, even if they're not into gaming, knows about Mortal Kombat, knows about the famous quotes of "FINISH HIM", "GET OVER HERE", and "FATALITY". Mortal Kombat, when it launched, was a huge cultural phenomenon that not only was big enough to basically be one of the two grandfathers of the fighting genre alongside Street Fighter and spawn countless other series in it's wake, but also impacted gaming history FOREVER by being the reason the rating system exists in the first place. Mortal Kombat's history is also closely tied to Nintendo, with the franchise originating there and having been on every Nintendo main console since then, with the Wii U being the one exception so far. Scorpion has become one of the most recognizable gaming characters period, with his famous yellow ninja attire and skeletal head under his mask. Even the concept of pulling someone with a rope in them in videogames now is almost always tied to the phrase "GET OVER HERE", whether in-game or the player themselves. And what once was Mortal Kombat's biggest stopping point, the violence and maturity of his series compared to the other franchises features has been torn apart thanks to Bayonetta's inclusion, considering her franchise is just as notable for it's horrific gory violence and mature content. Not only that, but games such as MK vs. DC and his appearance in Injustice show that Scorpion, like Bayonetta, can exist outside of his brutal fatalities and still stay true to the character. So overall Scorpion is one of, if not THE most iconic and popular videogame characters not yet in Smash, he and his franchise have a history not only with Nintendo consoles but also impacted gaming history as a whole, and his biggest holdup, the violence, is completely nullified with Bayonetta's inclusion. All he's missing at this point is the push for him to be in Smash Bros. in the first place, and in the years following Bayonetta's inclusion, I expect that realization and desire to develop and grow.
