Never has one picture so concisely summed up why people shouldn't even bother trying to seriously predict Smash/Sakurai.

Before being announced, pretty much everyone viewed Mewtwo as one of the likeliest characters for DLC if DLC were to happen. Lucas was always a frontrunner, too.

So it's kinda neat that they ended up being the first two characters announced....since all the others that followed were picks very few people saw coming. It went from predictable to a crapshoot very quickly.

I didn't vocally support Bayonetta because I knew I would get ostracized.

And now people are complaining about how the Bayonetta supporters are forcing people into submission about how it makes sense.

I also forgot about the smugness of those who get "their" longshot characters included or predict something correctly. Sometimes it's almost as bad as the people who **** on others for wanting the longshot characters in the first place, I swear to god. >_<

The fans of almost any character in general. I maintain Mewtwo, K. Rool, Little Mac, Mega Man, Palutena and maybe Dixie were literally the only newcomers supported/advocated by the majority from beginning to end.

With the exception of the last one (and even then, they just mentioned the Ice Climbers and possibly Wolf being in Smash NX) I don't remember any of them saying that at all.

In my experience most seemed to immediately dismiss her because "too sexy". People don't tend to do more than scratch the surface sometimes.

I always either said she has a decent or a unlikely chance. IMO any character can work. Fan Rules can get broken, as proven MANY times during Smash4.

Come on, the ONE time I decide not to let the mainstream push me around, and my opinion is not only patronized at every mentioning but is now flat out referred to as stupid and compared to two already disproven events that were always far dumber than assuming Smash NX is going to be it's own game and not a direct port of Smash Wii U with no new characters.

And considering the the amount of work difference of 7 fighters to 6 racers, this almost seems proportional or something.

Lotta people always had a strange view of the ballot. If volume didn't matter, if all that mattered were suggestions for characters, the ballot needn't have existed in the first place. The fanbase is nothing if not rife with existing suggestions easily accessible and often presented to the devs anyway.

Obviously people saying #1 would automatically get in also had an incorrect view, but popularity was always going to play a decent role in deciding in a ballot. It wasn't a straight election and it wasn't a mere suggestion box, it was a ballot.

Given the opportunity, why wouldn't he?

Given the fervour from the devs themselves around ballot time, I'm sure Sakurai has had ample opportunity to include more third-parties in the game than we would up with, but I believe he still sees the series as something primarily for Nintendo characters.

In all honesty, yes, I'd rank assuming Smash NX is a completely brand new game as being just as stupid as the other things I listed.

They're not going to make a complete new Smash game in less than a year. Even if you assume they started development on it while also making SSB4 DLC, that's still an extremely small development cycle, especially in comparison to that of Brawl and SSB4.

If the Smash for NX rumor is true, it absolutely has to be a port. And I don't think there will be any new characters. The end of the Final Broadcast stream, Sakurai's own comments about the length of development time a character takes, and the amount of effort put into ensuring the Wii U and 3DS versions have the same roster are indicative of that to me.

In the unlikely event there were more characters, one or two.
