That's right, a decent HDR thread.

This game has just been released on XBLA and PSN. It's a great street fighter game with great online, as long as your connection is good.

Now, This game is truly one of the greatest of all time*. If you have never heard of Super Street fighter 2 Turbo (AKA Super Turbo AKA ST), then you have been living in a cave. One of the greatest fighters ever got a huge boost of HD graphics as well as gameplay. The infamous David Sirlin was the leader of the gameplay changes that went into this game. he play tested this game with other professional ST players and turned it into the 6th installment of the SF2 series.
HD Graphics sample:

Well you may wonder, "well Grunt, what was changed?"
LOTS!
While ST was a well balanced fighter, it did have it's problem spots. some crazy throw loops, corner traps, and of course,
AKUMA
Oh but don't worry, Most of this has been fixed and the fearsome Akuma has been completely rebalanced. He even has a Super meter now! Yay for Raging Demon!

Now i know some of you are like "meh, this seems like some elite rehash for tourney***s" well it sort of is, BUT! one of the biggest changes was controls! many of the controls that were ridiculously hard (Fei Long's Flying kicks are back to up forward, which usually makes you jump first) were toned down to much simpler commands (down to forward, YAY!) so that
newbies newcomers like you could pick it up and learn with much more ease. while it will still take a while to reach the pro level, at least you don't have to worry about messing up commands anymore.

This game also has plenty of other features including a dipswitch that allows you to toggle any balance changes you wish. you want Ken to not be able to use his Super as a Reversal? go ahead! Want to play the new game with the old graphics? Sure thing!

"Well Grunt, You don't exactly sound like a good source of game reviews..."
How does 1up.com sound?
They gave HDR an A+!!

There are also plenty of other review strewn across other review sites, but many links can be found on Sirlin's site, Sirlin.net.

"Wow, Cool! I don't have a job because I'm a loser, so I wont get this game until Christmas, can you teach me how to play X character?"

NO! :D
but, you can go to here to find out about all the changes on every character and more.

Now, go get it. Talk about it here and stuff.

*imo.

Soo yeah, I'm having a bit of trouble performing some of the basic stuff xD.

Scissor Kicks with Bison for example, you're told to charge back, and forward+kick~

How long are you supposed to hold back? And do you have to press forward and kick at the same time or one after the other?

I'm getting my 360 tomorrow, so I'll post my account on here when I can. I don't have an arcade stick, so don't think I suck.

Hold back so you character should be walking backwards. You have to hold it for at least a certain amount of time (at least 2 seconds?) and then press forward and kick for Bison.

Not quite 2 seconds IRL, but 2 timer seconds, since they're a bit faster than normal.
and yes, forward and Kick at the same time, it takes some getting used to after playing smash.

I have a PS3, BentoBako's my username :D

I think I'll pick up Blanka... I just need to figure out what his rolls are for now xD.

And I was wondering, when you charge X move by holding back and get hit in the meanwhile, you'll block said attack (unless its a low hit), does your charge get canceled or can you perform, say blanka's roll, directly out-of-block?

yes you can.
Blanka's Rolls are one of those few moves that hit on frame one, so they make good reversals.
or whiffed roll into bite.

So there's no chance of this coming to Wiiware, is there? Becuase I've been looking for a good comeptitive fighting game and this seems like an obvious choice.

not on wiiware. just ps3 and 360.

PS3 is a god system though. No excuse not to get one if you can afford it. It blows the 360 away.

SF2THD is hard as ****. It takes me around an hour to beat the arcade mode on easy. It will destroy you mercilessly.

Perhaps I suck (possible) but there's times when the computer guesses your first move right and combos you all the way down to half health, and you dizzy, and then it combos the rest of your life away. This game is f^cking hard.

At least it's not as hard as the original Super Turbo. Original Super Turbo difficulty was near impossible on the highest difficulty.

Edit: I got my 360 yesterday, but I still need to buy HD Remix. I might get it today or tomorrow.

You might want to browse the srk wiki to learn about the basics of the game. And I suppose that the specific character tips should still be somewhat relevant, even though there has been some modifications from ST.

I'm in the process of learning Blanka right now and my biggest brickwall so far is how I have to hold back all the time, so as to make my movements seamless (I'd start out by staying crouched all the time until I figured out that this game is all about buffers). Playing a charge character almost requires of you that you should always be one step ahead. And yeah, this game is insanely hard lol. I'm still getting ***** by arcade on easy, which makes me shy away from even trying to play online (I've had my share of ***-whooping by combo happy kens and fireball happy ryus :<). T.Hawk gives me the most trouble, it seems like every time I'm close, he has a buffered 360 throw ready for me. D: And vega, god... all those cross-ups make me dizzy @_@

Also, this game seems to be meant to be played with a stick. The ps3's cross-pad really isn't ideal.

nearly everything was left alone with a few buffers and nerfs here. Maybe its just me but this game isn;t that hard to get good at then again i grew up with it. Try shoto's first then move onto other characters is my recommendation. Those T-Hawk grabs aren't exactly buffered, they're reversals (on get ups, blocks) so character like those are scary specially zangief.

Someone here might know this...

I want to play sf2 hd remix (360), sf4 (360), and TvC (Wii) all with the same arcade stick.

Would this be possible through like... some sort of adapters maybe? Like can I buy a 360 arcade and then get an adapter that would let it work on Wii as well. If so where would I go about buying one?

Also this game is fun, but too hard to play on a 360 controller >_>. The d-pad is horrendous and the analog sticks are still hard to work with.

Just remember that charge characters play defensively. And remember that you can also charge back while you're crouching.

You're probably going to have to buy 2 arcade sticks. I don't know of an adapter that works with the 360 and the Wii. You might be able to find one.

I'm just going to buy an arcade stick that's 360 and PS3 compatible. As for TvC, I'd just stick to the classic controller.

Blanka has great pokes and above par range to approach imo. I feel like crouching all the time makes it way too obvious as to what I'm about to do next and hinders my mobility (while Guile can just camp with SBs, so it really doesn't hurt him that much). By holding back while poking my opponents, I can almost always use my ball as a combo finisher, and by moving back and forth repeatedly, I can make it seem as if that upcoming rainbow roll came out of nowhere... If I jump over a fireball while holding back, a hk vertical roll could help close the gap and take my opponent by surprise, and etc. I'm still having trouble executing all those things on command though :<.

There's such a thing as a ps3/360 converter?

And for anyone who owns LBP:

As for the crouching charge characters. You might think that it makes you predictable, but it actually limits some of your opponent's moves and options.

As for the PS3/360 converter thing. I don't know if there is one.
I'm actually trying to buy an arcade stick from arcade-in-a-box that's 360 and PS3 compatible.

FYI, I got my 360, but I don't have a Gold membership or HD Remix yet. Plus my LB button isn't working right...

I use triggers for RH and FP, but it makes Slow Lariat a pain in the ***.
I should probably use bumpers.

The 360 Dpad is terrible. It's surprisingly easier to use the analogue in my opinion.

As for a joystick, it depends how much you want to spend.
If you want a really good one that's over a 100 dollars, you can buy the Street Fighter IV TE stick or the HRAP EX. The SF IV one is better but you're going to have to wait until February to get it. Or you can always buy a custom stick.

If you just want a cheap one, I suppose there's the Hori Stick EX that's 50 to 60 dollars or the other Street Fighter IV stick that 80 dollars.

Playing online is so much fun, I haven't experienced any real lag except for one guy (that guy was lagging really badly though).

I've been doing well with Guile, and I'm trying to stay away from using the shotos because of the crappy 360 controller.

I use Guile too.

It's just because charge characters aren't too difficult to use with the 360 controller.
I'll accept your friend request once I get online today with my 360.
