Smash City has its own monthly publication called Smashers (original, I know) that publishes interviews with current, former, and potential smashers alike, among other articles.

There's also the yearly "Sexiest Smash Brother of the Year" cover feature, in which Link and Captain Falcon fiercely compete with each other over. Link usually made the cover during the 64 and Melee years, while Falcon had his victories in the Brawl years mostly (save for that one time Snake one-upped them both). However, they both lost to Luigi last year (being the Year of Luigi and all) and again this year to Shulk.

It is only recently that they added "Sexiest Smash Sister of the Year" since before there weren't too many female options.

...and Palutena won this year.

1. I know.
2. I know, but Palutena said that. It doesn't make a difference, Little Mac has little in his name nonetheless.
Cultural differences with regards to standard height.

For a Japanese audience, Shulk's height is about average. For an American audience, and especially for a heavyweight boxer, Mac is tiny.

I know that, but Little Mac still has Little in his name.

Ok i might have sounded like a baby up there but Punch Out! Wii was developped in Canada. Xenoblade in Japan. Smash 4 in Japan. So they make the taller Little Mac shorter for the sake of their country, because Little Mac is generally supposed to be small. He even says Smash 4 doesn't cater to scale well then uses that as an excuse to never put Ridley in.... so yeah.

Oh, of course, I'm just saying that it's a cultural thing. Take a peep at the official profiles for any anime characters and you'll probably notice that even the taller characters are relatively small to Western fans.

Smash isn't true to scale. It's all proportionate based on what looks good on the characters, so even though Shulk is canonically shorter than Mac, he's taller in Smash because it matches his height compared to the other characters in his own game. Similarly, Mac is renowned for being tiny compared to his opponents, so he's deliberately a smaller character in Smash to fit that theme.

Well, I always thought that each universe has a different height scale conversion, which helps sell the shrinky-dink stages like Living Room or the Pikmin stages. Like, Shulk's 5'7 in Xenoblade isn't the same as Mac's 5'7 in Punch-Out Wii.

This would also explain some height weirdness in the home games, like why everyone in Other M is taller than Samus despite already being 6'3 herself <assuming her height hasn't shrunk as a retcon at some point>, or everyone in Punch-Out still being just as big compared to Mac as they were in the old games even after giving Mac a whole foot extra to his height from PO NES to PO Wii.

You know those posters that come out when a newcomer is announced? They're actually posters that advertise episodes of a miniseries that leads up to the Sm4sh tournaments. The main character in each episode is the newcomer that the episode revolves around. The plot for each episode usually revolves around the newcomer getting invited to an unknown event, and characters from other series begin showing up from out of nowhere either as a friend or a foe. The tone of the series ranges from comical (Wii Fit Trainer, Duck Hunt) to serious (Shulk, Lucina/Robin), depending on what series the newcomer originally came from.

Ike and male Robin are currently dating

Ike's favorite song from a musical is I'm Super from South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut, which is sung by Big Gay Al.

No one who lives in the Smash Mansion is allowed to disclose the existence of Master Hand or his brother Crazy Hand to anyone else, fearing scandal.

Ness plays baseball in his spare time.

Fox, Falco, C. Falcon, and Samus also work for the Irvine Police Department and the Intergalactic Police, in addition to the latter two working as bounty hunters.

After his adventures, :4ness: actually got a job fixing all kinds of things like Arwings, the Stadium, mystical weapons (although he sometimes blundered with the Falchion), and the occasional rift in reality.

The pay is ridiculously good. He's almost done with middle school, but can pay his way to college for the next 12 years while he can get some jewelry for his mom and help his dad finish college.

Link and Marth have taken their rivalry to another level by sponsoring rival drink lines. Link endorses the Arizona Beverage Company, and Marth endorses Pepsi's Brisk line of teas and fruit drinks (which are very similar, and very good).

Meta Knight is partially of Mexican descent, adding another twist on being exactly as he is in the Kirby anime. As such, he enjoys Mexican culture, and in particular, loves the Denver-area restaurant Casa Bonita, and the movies of Robert Rodriguez (his favorite such movies are the Spy Kids movies).

Little Mac plays 80s movie montage songs as well as other Rocky series songs (like Eye of the Tiger and No Easy Way Out) when training for a fight.

Although the Smashers (except Pit and Palutena) enjoy watching South Park, they are only allowed to play the PC version of South Park: The Stick of Truth (the other versions are for the Wii U's actual rival consoles).

All Pokemon are capable of speaking human languages, most of them choose to do so only in the company of a select few (so Meowth's story for how he learned to talk in the Pokemon anime is a lie). Pikachu for example, speaks with a New York Italian accent, and has revealed his human-speak ability only to Samus Aran and Delia Ketchum, choosing not to reveal it to Ash for he fears it could change their relationship for the worse. In this regard, sometimes Pikachu is tired of the whole "being cute" thing.

Dr. Mario has numerous other fictional doctors as friends on Skype. Among them: Dr. Kildare, Doctor Who, Dr. John Becker, everyone who has been a main character on the TV show ER, Dr. Hartman, Dr. Mark Sloan, Dr. Derek Sheperd, Dr. Meredith Grey, Dr. Gregory House, Dr. Addison Montgomery, J.D., Dr. Leonard McCoy, and Dr. Beverly Crusher.

Jigglypuff often sings her song outside of battle, exactly as she does in the anime (this is the same one that stalked Ash and friends for over 5 years), with the same results.

Rosalina longs to meet Elsa and Anna from Frozen, and is planning a meeting with them as we speak.

Ike initially showed a negative reaction to Pokemon Trainer's Charizard in the Brawl era, going as far as trying to slay it, but eventually warmed up to it. He is warming up to Ash's Charizard as we speak.

Ash and Charizard have compared their bond to that of Hiccup and Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon on numerous occasions. Ash even sympathizes with Hiccup in one regard - neither of them have a father in their life anymore, Ash doesn't know who or where his father is (secretly it's Giovanni), and Hiccup's father was killed in HTTYD 2.

Mario and Peach are often admonished for public display of affection.

Link and Pit consider each other best friends, considering they were in SSE together and come from lands where modern-day technology is unheard of.

Mega Man drinks alcohol for the same reason the robots on Futurama do it. Mega Man has even quoted the show several times.

Greninja thinks he is a better ninja than the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, that being said, he'd love the Ninja Turtles to become Smashers (reflective of my beliefs that there should eventually be TMNT DLC).

Male Robin and Female Robin are twin brother and sister.

Dark Pit is Pit's complete opposite in every way. Everything Pit is against, Dark Pit is for.

None of the non-Kid Icarus Universe Smashers can tell Pit and Dark Pit apart, always calling both of them Pit, leading to mass confusion. Only Palutena can tell them apart.

Both Falco and Pikachu hate cats, reflective of what kind of animals they both are (bird and mouse, respectively).

R.O.B. has no emotions whatsoever.

Mr. Game & Watch behaves as a stereotypical old man.

The reason why Mewtwo was absent from Smash for 7 years - he was continually haunted by memories of what happened on New Island (in short, the events of Pokemon: The First Movie). He regretted what happened there considerably, and so withdrew from the public eye for quite sometime and began going through therapy, with Dr. Katz being his therapist. He is now completely over the events of New Island, and is no longer haunted by them. He is training to return to Smash, but will not hang out with Bowser and Ganongdorf like he did in the Melee era, feeling that he has outgrown them.

All of the Villagers are cousins.
Megaman is the supplier of the green female Villager due to leaf shield.
Sonic, Megaman, and Pac-Man are in a anime/manga club.

You may remember that I had a "headuniverse" as an alternate continuity where none of the characters are their canon selves. Quite conveniently, the roles of the cut characters in there were easy to make fates for. :L

The :popo: were orphaned due an avalanche, and were raised by :dedede:, a penguin that ruled Summit. He's the one that gave them hammers and how to use them, but he secretly just wanted to lure them into comfort before eating them. It finally happened, lol.

:snake: divorced with/was murdered by :peach:. Yeah, seriously.

:lucas: is still in the battle, he just became so powerful, he's stuck in the form of :lucario:, and continues to reach new heights as seen with his Final Smash.

  • Master Hand has assigned :4mario: as the leader of the Super Smash Bros. in case of disaster.
  • :4palutena: is basically Spider-Man in terms of strategy: she makes lots of jokes and plays around with the other fighters in order to irritate them and find a weakness to exploit and improvise.
  • :4pacman:, :4kirby: and :4yoshi: clash a lot when hunting for food.
  • The fighters tend to make teams with others during the tournament; :4darkpit:, :4metaknight:, :4lucario: and :mewtwomelee: due to their loner natures, rarely are willing to join and even less make one.
  • :4peach: and :4zelda: are one of the most frequent team ups. And they have actually stablished a durable friendship.
  • :4megaman: tends to feel remorse over fighting many humans.
  • :pt: at first thought many of the non-humanoid fighters were Pokémon. Cue many tries to catch them.

The Smashers all like to watch sports, especially hockey and college football. Hockey is their favorite sport because it is just as violent as Smash is, fights breaking out often.

In fact, during the Melee era, all the Smashers, based on a tip by Mewtwo, attended a Senators-Flyers game in Philadelphia on March 5, 2004, expecting a brawl to break out, as Mewtwo predicted. When it did break out, the Smashers all came on to the ice and joined the brawl as well. Master Hand (David Geffen) managed to get the Smashers out of trouble with the NHL, the Flyers, and the team's arena, but they were still in trouble with him. He was royally p*ssed off about the incident, especially since the fight was not sanctioned by him. Needless to say, they were all punished severely, very severely.

As for which college football teams some of the Smashers like, it is known that Link is an Ohio State fan, Marth roots for Michigan, Pit roots for religious schools like Notre Dame and BYU, and Meta Knight and Dedede are SEC homers.

On several occasions Nintendo has raised concerns about Smash harming the public reputation of its characters, many of which have come from traditionally family-friendly franchises. David Geffen/Master Hand has managed to ease Nintendo's minds each time this was brought up.

My mains are in the worst sitcom to never exist: The Villagermaphobes.

Living somewhere unknown, they all live together as a family, and for some reason aren't even actual germaphobes.

:4villager: is the main protagonist, and youngest of the kids. Unfortunately, he also has the most generic personality.

:rosalina: is the mom. She tries to keep her sanity in her Dysfunctional Family, which isn't going to end well.

:4pacman: is the dad. He's either at work or watching football.

:4wiifit: is the big sister. She smells manly.

:4duckhunt: is the dog. ...That's basically it except that he's gay with a duck.

:4rob:, because Robot Buddy.

:4villagerf:, :4pit:, :4darkpit:, :4robinf:, :4peach:, :4lucina:, :4iggy:, and :4gaw: all live in the backyard, because they had to be in the story somehow.

Saturdays at 8:30/7:30C.

...That's basically it, yo.

Captain Falcon hates the city of Toronto and everything about it. He is a Red Wings fan, and hates the Maple Leafs more than any other team. For years he was even in a feud with Leafs enforcer Tie Domi, which ended upon his retirement.

Captain Falcon also once was arrested for drunk driving in Toronto, and in lieu of jail time was barred from entering Canada for a few years.

- Captain Falcon wears tight clothing to show off his huge muscles, and has a habit of flexing his pecs and glutes.

- Wario once made a parody video of Anaconda and made everybody watch it. Needless to say, the results were horrifying. Bowser and Ganondorf had to check themselves into therapy after the ordeal.

- Meta Knight teaches a spanish class at a local school. He often goes off into tangents about his time in Brawl.

- Sonic is very interested in Shulk whenever he eats sandwiches since they always retain their shape no matter how many bites are taken out of them. Wanting to apply the same properties to chili dogs, he's always asking him for the secret behind the infinite sandwiches. Every time the topic is brought up though, Shulk simply tells Sonic to go ask Fiora about it. Unfortunately, Sonic still has yet to find out the secret.

- The Sandbag has PTSD from all the times it was used for training and home run contests by all of the fighters, even though it cannot emote. It has only gotten worse when Little Mac was promoted from assist trophy.

- Ghirahim annoys the everloving **** out of Ganondorf. Also, he creeps on EVERYBODY.

- Pit and Pittoo mess around in the kitchen whenever Palutena isn't around.

- Whenever Marth speaks, subtitles appear so everybody knows what he's saying. The same thing happens to Link for his HYA-ing.

- Nobody has ever seen Sakurai in the flesh, not even the Kirby and KI characters. Some of the fighters even think that he's an urban legend.

- Snake did not appear at the Sm4sh tournaments because he died from advanced aging prior to them, due to the fact that he was a clone of Big Boss. Because he was the first 3rd party character to appear in Smash, and that he was one of the greatest fighters in all of the tournaments, a special tournament/funeral was held in honor of him. Samus was hit hard by this since they were somewhat close during the Brawl years. Even Sonic took it the worst since him and Snake always butted heads with each other during their time in the Brawl tournaments. Captain Falcon even took off his helmet in honor of him; which is rare since Falcon is never seen without it on.

- Isaac disappeared shortly before the Sm4sh tournaments started. Nobody knows for sure what happened to him, though rumors are flying around claiming that he's getting promoted from assist trophy to fighter. This is further supported by the lack of Golden Sun representation.

- The Links and Mega Men see each other as competition.

- Chrom and Dunban like to have sparring matches against each other, as part of a friendly rivalry.

- Speaking of Dunban, Pit once mistook him for Magnus.

- Marth and Roy once dressed up as women a la White Chicks in order to see what the female fighters did on their nights out.

- R.O.B. enjoys playing on the NES, and even has an entire collection of NES games. His gaming skills are on the level of a tool-assisted speedrun.

- Ness was saddened when he found that Lucas was not in the Sm4sh tournaments. He has since learned some of his abilities in honor of his best friend.

- The two Pits do their pre-battle rallying cry whenever they are on the same team. Pit also sometimes sings his victory song prior to or after his matches.

- Groose is Link's manager.

- Mega Man can download the abilities of the other fighters just like in the Mega Man cartoon, but is only allowed to use the abilities of the Robot Masters because he would be considered way too OP for Smash.

- Playstation All-Stars attempted to pull a "Monday Night Wars" with Smash Bros., but failed spectacularly.

- Just like in the anime, Jigglypuff puts people to sleep with its singing, then proceeds to vandalize their faces with permanent marker.

- Tharja was actually banned from the Smash Village because of her obsession with M. Robin. She always tries to circumvent this via curses and hexes. M. Robin is always cautious whenever he goes outside because of her.

- Bowser, Ganondorf, and Wario go to bars together, where they usually sit at a corner. Bowser and Ganondorf offered Mewtwo to join them, but the Pokemon always declined due to his nature. And Wolf used to be a part of their group until he left. Because of their status as villains, waiters and employees charged with serving them often experience feelings of dread around them.

- Sonic, Captain Falcon, Fox, Ike, and Shulk have their own group called "Meme Hell".

- Morshu provides all of the items in the Smash games, along with Anna from Fire Emblem.

- The Original 12 are in charge of managing the Smash Village. They have since resorted to hiring other fighters and the like as the tournaments keep growing in size.

The Smashers' exploits outside the arena are the subject of an MTV reality TV series called The Real Smash Bros. (which is actually a fan fiction I am writing), which makes Pit and Palutena's criticism of South Park problematic, as that show's home channel, Comedy Central, is owned by MTV parent Viacom. The Real Smash Bros. is modeled off of MTV's other series The Real World.

Reasons why the cut characters left:

Lucas: Wanted to get out of the spotlight and live a normal life as an average American teenager, having been accepted into one of the most exclusive public high schools in the country, Carnegie Vanguard High School in Houston, Texas. He plans on going to a Pac-12 college after high school.

Wolf: During his time as a Smasher, he was also a fugitive from the law, being wanted by many jurisdictions across the universe. Therefore, the other Smashers, if caught, could have been put to trial for harboring a fugitive. He left Smash so he could turn himself in and do the time he should have been doing all along.

Pokemon Trainer: When he first entered Smash, he was just starting to turn his life around. He had been a great Pokemon Trainer early on in his career, but soon began a losing streak that caused him to quit, and turn to gambling, including betting on other Pokemon matches. He didn't do so well there either, and soon he began drinking heavily, often needing to borrow money from other people to buy drinks. It was almost the end of him. One day, he passed out on the street from alcohol poisoning, and a pedestrian who recognized him rushed him to the hospital, where he was resuscitated. From that day forward, he swore never to drink another drop of alcohol again, and began attending AA meetings. Early on in his road to recovery, he discovered a tryout poster for Smash, and brought his Charizard, Ivysaur, and Squirtle with him. He would command them to do all the fighting. Master Hand was impressed, and took Pokemon Trainer under his wing. Trainer did pretty well in the 6 years he participated, and was very grateful to Master Hand for his role in turning the Trainer's life around. He has left to take up Pokemon training again, hoping to recapture his former glory.

Snake: Throughout his time as a Smasher, he had a major crush on Samus, which put him at odds with Captain Falcon as he has had his eyes on Samus longer (she has not returned affections back to either). Snake left Smash so he could pursue other career opportunities as well as leave Samus entirely to Captain Falcon, which the latter considered a grand gesture. Snake's first post-Smash career move was to try out as a running back for the Baltimore Ravens of the NFL, which came soon after Ray Rice was cut and indefinitely suspended (since lifted) for domestic abuse. Snake made it on to the team and has started every game, the Ravens are currently in playoff position.

Ice Climbers: This pair of Smashers, during their time in the competition, was extremely dedicated to winter and especially Christmas, often making the other Smashers watch Christmas specials and movies with them, and take part in decorating the mansion for Christmas. They even recorded a couple of Christmas music albums. During their time in Smash, they also became interested in Ice-Type Pokemon. So in 2014, they decided to leave Smash in order to become Ice Pokemon masters, whilst spending the holiday season at the Snowpoint City Gym. Christmas at the Smash Mansion will not be the same.

:snake:, :4marth:, and :4myfriends: never leave the mansion after the tornaments are over due to the fact they're dead in the series they're from. :4robinm:,:4lucina:, and :4shulk: will eventually do this too.
Also, Chrom is banned from the mansion for repeated attempts on :4robinm:'s life, Tharja for stalking :4robinm: and attempts on :4lucina:'s for 'stealing' her man, and Ridley, because :4zss:is a HUGE *****.

So earlier in this thread, I said that Marth was one of the greatest dancers in the Smash roster. I'm gonna expand upon that:

Marth is not just known for his swordsmanship and fighting prowess, he is also known for his legendary dance moves. He was often compared to the likes of Michael Jackson and Usher by the other fighters. Roy too was an impressive dancer, and during Mario's Melee pre-tournament party, the two impressed everybody with their skills, even starting a dance off against Fox and Falco in the process. The two continued to impress everybody behind the scenes, and even applied their dance skills in the form of wavedashing and dash dancing, which other fighters began to pick up later on in the Melee tournaments.

However, when Brawl began, Marth found out that his dance partner and best friend Roy, was not invited to participate in the tournaments again. This had an effect on Marth's dance ability, as the two were very synchronized and very rarely danced when they weren't together. Marth attempted to get Ike to be his new partner, but the newcomer was nowhere near on the same level as Marth. The two still became friends, but Marth was left without a dance partner for the entirety of the Brawl tournaments. This was only made worse when other fighters began to one-up him during dance offs, and that wavedashing was banned from tournament use. Marth had to remember what Roy taught him when they learned from each other in order to improve his dance skills again.

Then there was the Sm4sh tournaments. During the newcomer process, the Hero-King ran into Lucina, who revealed that she was his descendant from a distant future, and even disguised as him during the events of Awakening. When Marth asked her if she knew how to do his legendary dance moves, Lucina had no idea what he was talking about. This led Marth to the conclusion that at some point, his traditional dance skills had been lost to the sands of time. Not wanting to go through the same events he did in Brawl, he vowed to teach his dance moves to Lucina. Surprisingly, she learned Marth's dancing skills very quickly, and has since become his new dance partner. Marth hopes that Lucina is once again invited when the 5mash tournaments come around. He also hopes that Roy returns some day so that he, his best friend, and descendant can form the ultimate dance team.

One of the Duck Hunt Dog's multiple personalities is Mr. Peabody, and whenever he acts this one out, Clemont plays along and assumes the role of Sherman. In these roles, the two saw the Peabody and Sherman movie, and whenever they use Clemont's time machine, they will always call it the WABAC Machine. Some of the places and times they traveled to together: the 1969 Woodstock Festival, the 1975 World Series, the 1939 premiere of Gone with the Wind, and the day the Titanic sunk in 1912 (they escaped just as the ship started to sink).

As of this moment, Master Hand and the Smashers are planning the largest ever classic metal festival, Super Smash Metal Fest, to take place over seven days at the Rose Bowl stadium, featuring numerous classic metal acts performing with their classic line-ups or as close to them as possible.

Here's my headcanon on how Smash started:

The Master is the most powerful being on the universe. Master Hand and Crazy Hand are just parts of his body. However, since he is so powerful, each part of his body got minds of their own. Luckily, he can instantly generate more body parts in case his current ones wander off. He is also the most creative being on the universe and created all of the universes and characters in Smash. One day, he was getting bored of creating universes and decided to host a fighting tournament with the characters he created. He brought some of his favorites to the universe he lives in (the Smash universe). He then created lots of battlefields (this explains why there are so many places known as Battlefield in the Smash universe). He then made them fight for his amusement. Later on, he got bored of seeing them fight on standard arenas and decided to create portals to the many universes he created, so the characters would fight in other locations instead of just Battlefield. He eventually got even more bored and started throwing random junk at the fighters, dying of laughter every time someone gets hit by a bomb that randomly spawns in front of them. You get a cookie if you count how many times the word "universe" appears.

-Headcanon goes here-
I counted eight (nine if the slashed text counts). And speak of the devil, I'm actually making cookies as we speak!

Now for another random headcanon thought. Oh how this thread can be so amusing:

With more fighters joining in each iteration of Super Smash Bros., the Original 12 have been contemplating the thought of dividing the Smash Bros. roster into two separate brands a la WWE's Monday Night Raw and Friday Night Smackdown. So far, the viewpoints have been very polarized. The supporting side argues that splitting the roster in two will give the lower tier characters a chance to shine, and will help the tournaments stay fresh via annual drafts. The opposing side however, claims that the brand idea is unnecessary as the Brawl tournaments held up well with a roster of well over 36 fighters, and that the better idea is to just simply add another hour or two to the events. So far, there has yet to be a final decision.

When not being used for Smash fights, Pokemon Stadium and Pokemon Stadium 2 are used for concerts from major rock acts.
