I saw a comment on Facebook that raised an interesting theory.

What if this whole thing was actually a publicity stunt? To see how serious fans were about Melee being at EVO, they pulled the plug as a test of faith for the fans? If so, Nintendo truly is a troll company.

That's not true, but if it was, it was a stupid test that served no purpose. Honestly, I just think it was bad communication within Nintendo of America in regard to legal protection of the brand, the games, and the IP's on a larger scale.

Likely so, especially now that we have two very important assets here:

1. This whole incident has set a precedence. It would look very bad on Nintendo's part if this happens again.
2. We have proven that social media does indeed work on Nintendo. As soon as our wallets became vocal, we got a lot more powerful.

EDIT: An important third one is that now we have a stronger backing from the FGC. Those guys can be pretty vocal, especially considering the Capcom-gate incident last year.

Considering all of this, we have proven that Nintendo listens to us, Nintendo is aware of us, and hey, competitive smashers matters to them! That is a great thing!

When the fans voice matters, whether this, Xbox One's DRM, "always on" online, and used game policies, or whatever, it is nice to see companies change their stances due to fan demand. Hopefully fan demand eventually leads to things like the end of region blocking on Nintendo consoles, and 3D Zelda games not feeling lifeless!

All I'm going to say is there is history there. Sad, but it's true. There isn't any reason you need to "see" how he acts, any more than you need to do that for every other user in this thread. If you really want to see the content of his posting than go to his profile and check his post history.

Dunno, I'm not one for meltdowns. I mean sure, I guess they're entertaining for some...idk, I don't really find them enjoyable.

At any rate, Brawl's roster is very good imo. Tbh, I only want my Melee main back (and Mewtwo). Anyone else would be icing on the cake for me. Though I am excited to see more vets considering the changes done to Bowser, Pit, etc. And oh man I can't wait for Marth and Lucas. <3

Brawl's roster was pretty much close to my ideal, throw in Mewtwo and I'm set. I'm in the unique position where, now, I can fully enjoy each character for what they are because I'm really not rooting or anticipating any character.

Same here. Well, I mean I have some personal faves like Junior, Krystal, Zoroark, Tingle, Medusa, Tharja ect. Who I would love to see in Smash. But Smash already offers a bunch of characters who I love playing as. I don't mind not seeing my personal favorites in so long as the current roster is cleaned up, and the newcomers are interesting. Which, they all have been so far.
