I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree. Truce? We could still well get three cutesy blobs as newcomers, but I do feel that if there are already two characters who will be at least vaguely similar tonally and aesthetically among the newcomers, it hurts the chances of a third.
As it should be.It's Official, K. Rool passed Ridley up on my poll as "Nintendo's Most Wanted Newcomer".
I agree, but Anna. Also, you have rekindled my passion, I now write futher on my Anna essay.I feel like it's generally assumed we're gonna get a FE13 character. While I actually do think that Chrom will replace Ike, it is still totally up in the air as to what will actually happen and who we'll get. There are solid arguments for a variety of FE13 characters, and who knows what happens in Sakurai's skull. Hopefully Ike won't be cut and we can manage to increase the variety seen in the FE roster, but...
Shrug.
Or even Duck Hunt Dog...I think the big things that will determine characters this time around are: Popularity, Moveset/Gameplay Potential, Sakurai's Personal opinion, Nintendo's opinion (Think FE and PKMN)
It sounds like he may add some older characters, but that doesn't necessarily mean Takamaru. One thing Takamaru may have going against him is that he's a Japan only character.
He could very well add Balloon Fighter, or Mach Rider. Takamaru isn't the only retro choice.
There are no guarantees, humans are not so bound, but rather are far more subject to their will.
Take a look at the Supreme Court of the United States of America for example, they have set numerous precedents that clearly go against the precedents, beliefs, and philosophies that held this nation firm before. It all depends on the judges of the time, if we get some serious activist judges who just want to push their agenda instead of preserving justice, things will change.
Sakurai-san is not so subject to all of our perceived rigidities (another word my computer doesn't know is real), especially how he has shown his mysteriousness in the past. I would say the same for any man on the Namco team.
I do align certainly with what you're saying, the consumer is the end all be all natural regulation, but I think too many people. . . think they know what will sell and what wont, especially with all those expert statisticians and the like companies frequently employ, and for a company nowadays, unfortunately, it's not always about the consumer. (horray crony capitalism!)Sakurai does have one boss, the consumer. He could do a bunch of dumb roster picks and people could not buy his game and it flop. Then that will wake him up.
Correct me If I'm wrong, but The Villager's up B seems to be a reference to Balloon Fighter. Also I think the compelling evidence is that he mentioned breathing life back into an older franchise and then all of a sudden a wild Mysterious Murasame Castle mini game appears. The writing is on the wall!It sounds like he may add some older characters, but that doesn't necessarily mean Takamaru. One thing Takamaru may have going against him is that he's a Japan only character.

I honestly think that this move may have very well saved the franchise from death. What this shows is that Capcom does at least care about Mega Man to some extent and the fact that Capcom saw Mega Man as worth adding into Smash beside having more relevant characters (Ryu, Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy, etc.) shows that they do give the IP some value. Had Capcom said "no", it would likely indicate the eventual death of the franchise, which would have made me lose all hope in the gaming industry.Megaman's reveal was incredibly significant, especially if you're a long time fan of his. Megaman hasn't been in a game since 2010, he was excluded from Marvel vs. Capcom 3, he was made into a joke character in Tekken vs Street Fighter, and both Megaman Universe and Megaman Legends 3 were canceled last year. It's been rough for Megaman fans for awhile, to say the least. Why it's also significant is because most people agree that he was by far the most deserving third party character for Brawl. He's made close to 100 game appearances and has been the star of more than 70 games with more than 4/5ths of them appearing on Nintendo platforms at some point since 1987. Needless to say, the reveal was a very big deal. Snake might have opened the gate for third party characters but the most deserving third party character finally got a spot.
I liked how the character select screen gave a more "Smash" feeling than an "epic" feeling that Melee and Brawl did and that the character select screen had different music than the main menu.I'm guessing the will go with the naming conventions of Smash 64.
Speaking of Smash 64 I would love it if the Character Select screen had the throw-back 64 BGM.
I think Pac-Man will end up being one of the least popular newcomers for this game, guest or not. There were a variety of reasons why Sonic and Mega Man were hyped so much. Hopefully, Pac-Man will be the only "bad" newcomer this game gets (I consider the Villager, Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer, Little Mac and Mii to all be good, if not great or excellent choices).ChronoBound said:I think if Sakurai is thinking/hoping that Pac-Man is going to get the same reception that Sonic/Mega Man got, then he is mistaken, especially if he plans to use Pac-Man as a last minute hype generator. At this point, Pac-Man is the only third-party newcomer I could still see getting in (aside from the two guests from Brawl returning).
Then Sakurai should be incredibly thankful that he included Mega Man because otherwise, I would not buy the game with such a shoddy roster. Even then, I would be really furious at the result. Here's a really, really scary though. What if that list was not a leak about what characters would happen for E3, but rather what newcomers in general were in the game. I think Sakurai would certainly have hell to pay if there were only six newcomers, and that of them, only Mega Man and Little Mac were popularly requested additions.
The last thing I want to see is a bunch of Sonic fans raid the board and have to witness the worst of the fan base over and over again. If Sonic gets cut, there WILL be backslash. That, I can say for sure.
Ask me back on Monday and I would have argued why I felt Takamaru was as close to a guarantee as we're going to get for a newcomer and would have argued this with certainty. But with two retro newcomers being unlikely and Mach Rider being a real candidate for a spot, my confidence has been shaken for Takamaru.Hardly.
Truer words...As it should be.
Here's the link to the Duck Hunt Dog support thread.Honestly the guy with the duck hunt dog avatar made me want duck hunt dog in the game
When I listen to this, all I can imagine is Spike flying through space in the Swordfish II.I'm guessing the will go with the naming conventions of Smash 64.
Speaking of Smash 64 I would love it if the Character Select screen had the throw-back 64 BGM.
Hasn't Takamaru the character, in a way, already been kind of revived here (and no, I don't think he was directly referring to the franchise so much as the characters themselves)? I don't know about others here, but I doubt Sakurai was referring to Takamaru when thinking of characters to revive because of this reason. From: http://www.cubed3.com/news/16920
Granted, this is hardly a definite confirmation, however, seeing how he responded to THAT specific question makes you think that he probably has plans on reviving an old franchise. With the introduction of Takamaru's minigame in Nintendo Land (complete with its own Smash-like icon), all signs point to Mysterious Murasame Castle being revived. I don't think they'd do this if Takamaru himself didn't get some kind of rebirth in the form of Smash.
I'm not saying that Takamaru is absolutely confirmed, but all signs point to him being included.
Probably has something to do with the "life support" effect. Not that it'll do anything for him at this point, but Mega Man also had the "life support" effect and he got in. Makes me go "hmmm..."It's Official, K. Rool passed Ridley up on my poll as "Nintendo's Most Wanted Newcomer".
Probably because Dixie Kong got in the new DKC game... so the K. Rool supporters might be a little bit desperate since he's not relevant like she is.Probably has something to do with the "life support" effect. I'd prefer Scoot. I'd love a chance to beat the **** out of him.Isabelle would have been funny to play as.
Do you mean revived here on the forums? I think there is plenty of room to revive Takamaru. The inclusion of Takamaru's IP as a mini game for the Wii U, to me, alludes to future plans for the franchise. He wasn't even technically in it, your Mii just dressed as him, so I don't think that he's been revived at all, but it certainly seems like they're beginning the process. Of course this could all be very wishful thinking sigh...Hasn't Takamaru the character, in a way, already been kind of revived here (and no, I don't think he was directly referring to the franchise so much as the characters themselves)? Mach Rider fits that description a lot more, which is why I've been saying he has a real shot of getting in for over a year.
That's what I was thinking when I said "life support" effect, although King K. Rool already had it from his absence from Donkey Kong Country Returns, so this only intensify the "life support" effect for King K. Rool.Probably because Dixie Kong got in the new DKC game... so the K. Rool supporters might be a little bit desperate since he's not relevant like she is.
By revived, I mean that he's been making cameos lately. He's appeared in WarioWare D.I.Y., he's appeared in Captain Rainbow and he's even gotten a mode in the Wii version of Samurai Warriors 3 in which he's playable. Sonic alone will suffice. Anymore is pushing it. I do see Eggman and Dr. Wily teaming up and being a sick boss in the story mode though. If Sega representatives were to come in, I would like Sonic, Tails, and Eggman. It would be a bit unfair to the other third parties, but if there is a chance I would like them to be in the next Smash bros.
Other then that I really hope to believe Luigi and Yoshi are still in the game...please let it be so.
Any one who thinks Luigi and Yoshi aren't shoe-ins is an idiot.Luigi is pretty much confirmed based off of thar sharpy drawing Sakurai posted a long time ago. And I HOPE my main, Yoshi returns!
Definitely the pastel. Looks great. So, I didn't lie, but I didn't tell you the full details. Votes as of 1212 ~
Do you prefer normal rainbow, or this pastel?
This, the color of the pastel helps as it is easier on the eye overall.Definitely the pastel. Looks great.
Even if Duck Hunt Dog doesn't get in SSB4, Shortie's poll is not the be-all, end-all factor in Sakurai's eyes. Wii Fit Trainer got 0 votes and she got in, see what I am saying? The poll is only to gauge popularity among Smash fans, not for determining who will get in Smash.Duck hunt dog only had 92 votes even mii has a better chance ;c
Well, the Miis (depending on if you believe it or not) have been pretty much confirmed, so yeah. I can't wait to do my next poll in November.Duck hunt dog only had 92 votes even mii has a better chance ;c
Yay, pastel from now on.Definitely the pastel. Looks great.

This to me is the perfect situation for Takamaru to be in. All these little cameos bringing him back into peoples minds and then he ends up in smash and garners massive appeal because lez be serious fellas, he's awesome. From there Sakurai can revive the franchise with an actual game starring Takamaru.By revived, I mean that he's been making cameos lately. Oooo Palutena's up to 6th place in there now? Sweet! <3
She'll be back up eventually... I hope. D:She actually fell a tier. She was in the High Tier a few hundred votes before.
I'm colorblind and I thought the pastel looked nice and was easy to read.Do you prefer normal rainbow, or this pastel?
