Actually this isn't too surprising, and I'm inclined to believe this is totally legitimate, as other official interviews with ex-Rare staff have basically said the same thing, but in far less detail. This is just another reason why I can't accept when people say what happened to Rare is their own fault. Yeah, they made some mistakes, but at least they still tried to continue their magic, and M$ just stomped all over it.

I have a thought, maybe, just maybe, instead of it being entirely Microsoft's fault, it is also the fault of Rare.
No, not exclusively either, but a combination.

Here's how: Microsoft looked at their statistics and demographics and saw they had a string of failures, and here's the kicker, it's all about people, maybe those particular people who worked on it were on the teams of failures. Maybe that demo and intro wasn't as grand as they make it out to be.

Listen, none of us know the full details, the full story. It is folly to pass judgement when you do not have sufficient knowledge. Maybe my standard of 'sufficient knowledge' is just much higher than others :3

People still scream that at tournaments as a joke, and it's still hilarious, especially since the timing is almost impossible to mess up.

Lastly, he needs to start a "Smash Wii U and 3DS might suck" thread, because he was dead on about Brawl. Although, to be fair he was somewhat wrong as to why it sucked. It wasn't because of Sakurai; it was because of Nintendo's terrible directing of the staff, Game Arts' lack of skill, and the Wii's lack of power, online, or really any form of new technology. But hey, at least modding the hell out of Brawl makes the game AMAZING!!!

The last Mario Kart was terrible, simply terrible.
The Wii one was meh but it did his job well, also the custom tracks boosted the length of the game a lot.
The DS one is incredibly overrated. Technical yes, but boring as crap.
Double Dash!! is still the best in the franchise, not a lot of tracks but damn, two pilots was simply genius.
The 64 one is pretty much dead. Epic back then, but it's the game which aged the worst I've ever seen.
I've never played the original and Super Circuit that much to say anything about them.

Diddy Kong Racing and Sonic Racing + Transformed are a lot more superior to everything Mario Kart has ever done, sadly.

My favorite in order:
1) Diddy Kong Racing
2) Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
3) Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
4) Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing
5) Crash Team Racing

I expect the next Sonic Racing to be incredible. Mario Kart 8 well, I'll buy day one, but it needs a major overhaul. Nintendo Kart would be a good start, with the mechanic of Double Dash!! to create fun teams. If it's just 7 in HD it will suck.

I wish Mario Kart would actually BUILD OFF of previous games instead of trying to do something new each time and completely forgetting what had been done before. "Double Seat" could have easily been a custom kart part, with bikes remaining as their own type of kart. Aside from balancing, kart racers seem like one of the easiest kinds of games you could make... So, why not add more to it.

What's wrong with 7 anyway. Was loads of fun.

Lack of game modes, lack of proper online, glitched tracks which contributed to kill the online, and basically a boredom to it. There was nothing to do, literally. At least DS had missions. 7 was rushed because 3DS was selling like **** and feels more like a demo than an actual game.
The only good thing is that they scrapped Waluigi /troll

It is my gamer's dream for Nintendo to get Rare back just so Nintendo can release all those classic SNES/N64 games (plus Snake Rattle 'n' Roll) on Virtual Console... it was bad enough that you ruined what could have been Banjo-Threeie and made Nintendo remove Donkey Kong Country trilogy from Wii Shop... but Windows 8 is just crossing the line (my laptop is not a smartphone). You... you monster!
