How is the existence of the divine eminent? For those that believe in the unknowable, the burden of proof lies on them. You cannot simply say "Well of course God exists" to make your 'source' legitimate. The reason why your argument is mystic is because your source is Catholic doctrine, which is inherently mystical. There is no observable evidence for any of these claims. And don't assume that the only alternative to a mystic source of morality is a morality based on duties or common good. All of these principles are inherently irrational.

Also, it is entirely irrelevant how harmful pornography is on the actresses who are in the industry. The point is that it is entirely voluntary. There is no coercion, and no porn star is forced into the business. Therefore, the immoral thing to do would be to ban it, simply because you believe your God wouldn't approve of it. Cigarettes are incredibly harmful to humans. Shall we ban that, too? Alcohol? Even things as simple as wheat, soy, and corn products are incredibly harmful to human health. All of these things can be tied to hedonism. Do you believe all of it should be banned?

The fact of the matter is, regardless of how immoral or harmful you think something is, it is not the government's role to protect its citizens from themselves. It's only function is to protect the individual rights from external force. You and I have every right to destroy ourselves if we so choose, as long as we do not harm others.

Consent has a profound effect on the morality of an act. Consent separates a lover from a rapist.
I am surprised that you didn't mention anything about "morality" being an objective and true science to be honest. However, I did find your assessment of the fairy tale based argument to be quite intriguing. I tend to disagree though, the emotional detriment in the industry isn't entirely irrelevant in practical application. It is not necessary to ban harmful substances; however, it is against the law to not make an overt and concise effort to procure a warning in regards to the effects that can be caused. So I do believe that the government has an obligation to regulate the way pornographers treat the actresses to a degree. I am not advocating anything extreme, but in many of these cases, it is borderline abusive treatment.

Of course they always have ability to find alternative employment, so the notion is moot.

I kinda feel sorry because my curiosity started this whole debacle. I also see that Komic removed is signature? I found it annoying but I never asked him to take it off (also I still don't know who in the hell she was). What did I do? ç_ç

Why do people always suggest a new subject without making a concerted effort to actually change the topic? This isn't necessarily directed at you Phantom. I see it all the time, the more effective way to entice people to actually discuss something else might include... introducing something.

On a more serious note, listening to Super Mario 3D World's music makes me really excited for the music in Smash 4. Anyone else?

...Uhhh...so Project M is Smash related. Lets talk about that in relation to Smash 4.

We could have a depressing conversation about how Mewtwo and Roy if they return probably won't be as good as they are in PM. Sigh.

I think aside from characters, I AM most excited about the music. Particularly what's been chosen for the "Boxing" stage and Arena Ferox.

Project M sounds like a grand topic. Been really enjoying it during the days I am home from college with my brothers.

Please put your prejudice aside and read, in full, the text I have provided if you wish to understand my viewpoint. I guarantee you 100% that the existence of God is not a mystical thing, nor is Catholic doctrine, but a completely knowable through rational thought. If you read the section on Mysticism you would see that we outright condemn it, and if you read the Existence of God thing in full you would see that it is not mystical and takes zero leaps of faith, in fact, the Austrians do profess that Praxeology as a system has its roots in Scholasticism's philosophies. I have read both, please show me where exactly there are mystical claims, explain to me exactly how the words in those specific links are mystical.

As per the alternatives to a so-called "mystic source of morality", I stated those two because they're pretty darn common, and they seemed to have themes that run through the morality you professed. As for cigarettes and alcohol, I am not a moral theologian, but neither am I a Hedonist (I reject their system of morality, consequently utilitarianism which is the 'common good' system of morality), and have only so much knowledge, I cannot speak on those, but it does not discount the truth of the earlier arguments, as we are not internally inconsistent. It seems that harm is constituent, not antecedent, to evil, therefore harm that comes of evil is also evil, harm that does not come of evil is not evil. The role of the state as you have framed it is not contrary to the destruction of pornography as an industry, for it causes harm to the society at large, thus from external force, referring again to the links I had previously posted. I would not outlaw fornication in my ideal state, enforcement of which would be nigh impossible and all but irrelevant to the point of the state, granting that your view of the state is correct.

I was not referring to another's consent to the act of another upon them, I was referring to the consent of the individual to their own act. Also, nice signature.

Edit: Oh, all this talk of changing the subject, I'd better stop.

I just got back from doing my Private Voice I final. Here, I sing Panis Angelicus in F major: http://vocaroo.com/i/s1pA0G5B5ts5 one or two rhythm mistakes, being tense in the throat, shaky start ups, but otherwise yay! Also forgive the static, was too lazy to splice my voice together with the piano, so just played it through the speakers and put the mic next to it while I stood high above.

Foxtrot that jerk!
That was beautiful. (even tho you were shaky) but great job dude! nice voice

EDIT: Religion is a topic best left discussed in PM's, or in a thread if such exists on this forum. In the nicest way possible, I would suggest that you take your issue to said PMs or thread before warnings and bans happen due to flaming, because you guys are heading there pretty fast if you keep it up here (in my own opinion, of course).

Let's talk about retros. Mike Jones, Muddy Mole, Prince Sable, etc. - the ones who aren't as likely as the others.

Personally, I love Mike Jones, and he could feasibly be based around Ness because of the yo-yo, but never being released in Japan hurts his chances greatly. I don't know much about Muddy Mole or Prince Sable's games, but the characters themselves seem pretty sweet, though they aren't as likely as, say, Takamaru (duh), Lip and even Duck Hunt Dog.

Even though this place is usually pretty devoid of enforcement, direction, and discipline, I think it would be best if the religion talk didn't come up again. There are other better places for that.

Thanks.

I love how such a meager discussion could possibly entail bans. It is truly sad that we cannot discuss such matters without offending people. However; I digress, this site is for Smash. It is always entertaining to involve yourself with the community and discuss matters aside from the game that brought us together. I like to consider each and every member my friend, and sometimes it is ideal to discuss something irrelevant from Smash from time to time. I suppose it isn't the place for it.

Also, thank you Prince Komic.

Religion talk always leads to disaster, no matter where you are or with whom you talk about. I always avoid talking about it for two reasons: out of respect for other people's beliefs and because my opinion towards religion overall would probably make the discussion even more heated.

Considering I don't have much to say about Smash right now, I'll leave this thread for a while.

Religion talk didn't lead to disaster in my "comparative religions" class where everyone respected each other. It could do with the notion that we were all present, the internet turns people into monsters. I suppose it would be more accurate to assert that the internet brings out the "true" person.

I'm not all that interested in Project M. I think I'll give it a shot one day though.
I finally went out and got an SD card, but apparently I'm not doing something right since the game just crashes when I try to read the SD card. Any Project M savvy people know the problem? (I made sure to delete all custom stages)

Angie Varona's story is the precise reason why I recoil at pornography in all its forms, you have no idea who you're hurting. These are women who, in all likelihood, have no one that loves them, fortunately for Angie she had her loving and understanding parents. To be treated as an object for the physical satisfaction of millions is a crime against the dignity of the human person, especially the more beautiful they are. Sir, I would ask you to change your avatar, but I can't control you.

Which is why I have the most excellent vintage Smashboards avatar in all the land, that classic Kirby icon. I ain't givin' no disrespect.
I wasn't aware about how lonely this girl felt. Honestly, I thought she was some type of celebrity. Her picture is so pretty (I like her face. The cleavage is only complimentary and I say that as a gay prince). At this point, she is my age. And I like this particular picture. Not because I get aroused, but she is just a really pretty girl.

And respect to anyone who loves Kirby <3
Been using him as a main since 1999 and that isn't going to change come Smash 4 or ever.

EDIT: Damn. I didn't notice how this thread changed so dramatically over an avatar I'm using. And for a moment, I thought someone was posting under my username. Thanks Mor.
