I'm working on more, but the fact that your courses need to get a lot of stars for you to get your upload limit increased makes the work more difficult if no one ever stars your uploaded courses. And the thing is, I've had as many as 32 courses planned out during the wait for the game's release.

Well I just got Mario Maker... but I have no idea what to create :urg:. I guess I'll try recreating levels from other games and see how that goes.
Man, you just gotta start placing stuff and see where it takes you from there. Having all the items helps out a lot too. I didn't even want to start creating until I had everything unlocked.


Mario & Sonic ^, I'll def check out your stages. I didn't know you needed stars to get your upload limit to increase. I thought 10 courses was rather low.

As great as this game is, they made some stupid, easily fixable mistakes. I had absolutely zero patience for the 9-day limit; I immediately starting cranking that Wii U clock forward. I couldn't really figure out how the new patch wanted you to unlock things. I was spamming blocks to no avail.

This is my first castle course, and it has two halves. Bowser Jr. is fought at the end of the first half, while Bowser is the second half boss.

I've only made three stages so far, but I'd like to think they're pretty good. I beat them all multiple times, but the first two are something else. My first stage has 0/45 victors, and the second one has 1/25. I'm copying your format, M&SG!

Still waiting to unlock Super Mario World or even Super Mario Bros 3... The game says I have to wait a day to unlock things, but stuff arrives in less than 30 minutes while I'm actively creating stages.


EDIT: Playing your 1-3 stage right now, and I have to say, Super Mario World's physics feel... different than what is on the Super Nintendo. Don't know what it is, exactly.

EDIT2: I like your Bowser Stage the most out of all of them.

@ Kewkky Kewkky : As I continue making courses, I'll gradually add additional elements onto them. The world 1 courses are pretty straightforward, and they maintain a tolerable difficulty as well.

Basically, as I work on more courses, things will gradually get tougher, but I'll still do whatever I can to keep the difficulty fair.

BTW, how many courses you have to make to get more elements, and what are the first new elements unlocked?

You don't need to make courses, just make a stage and put as many blocks as you can, when you've hit the limit, reset and start over, eventually you'll unlock more items, that's just a way to cheat the system, I already got everything.

Also, use every item/feature at least once

You can also fast-forward the internal clock one day when it says a new shipment will arrive on the next day.
Yeah, thanks. I already managed to unlock everything with block spamming. Now I can start making my own levels.

Your level taught me that holding on to Beetle shells makes you float without the need to mash A! MindBLOWNN

It was a fun level too! - I starred it~ didn't finish it though, I'll come back to it later, there's always a lone Buzzy Beetle falling off from the roof and killing me

Well it took me about 3 hours but I finally made my first level:



Mario's Action (A81C-0000-0029-ACFF)


This level is inspired by the game Eryi's Action, and if you've played that game you'll know where this is going. I don't want to give it away which is why I think you should try it out.

There may be some parts that confuse you so if you want to know how to do them look in this spoiler (though use this as a last resort).
  • For the first part you need to move a bit to the left and then jump
  • To go across the first pit you'll need to use the blocks
  • To beat the level you'll need to bring the spring with you
  • There actually is a way to get through the underground pipe section, though you'll have to figure that out yourself
That's all I'll say. Give it a try but be warned that it's tough.

Only pipes can take you to sub-areas, but you have to unlock the sub-areas course set first.
Yeah, I unlocked them, but I wanted to make a ghost house type course, and I thought doors would fit better, awww well~

I was going to say this too, but can you put doors down the pipes? Methinks no.
Nah, that was the first thing I tried.

Got the day yesterday, created some courses :D though I tend to create hard ones :x

Zigzag garden (edit: 7F7D-0000-0080-F5FF)
A stage where you have to go from left to right, then from right to left, then from left to right again. Watch out for piranha plants! Style: SMB overworld. Difficulty: medium-hard.
Edit: removed my previous version to upload an improved one.
Edit 2: improved once again.

Urchin fortress
Urchins (represented by spikes) and other marine creatures have founded an underwater fortress. Beware when approaching walls! Style: NSMBU underwater. Difficulty: very hard.

Tricky airship (6FE8-0000-0030-15FA)
Invaded by Bowser Jr. and his army, this airship is very risky to explore. Don't run straightforward: thinking before doing anything is the key of success. Style: SMB3 airship. Difficulty: hard.

Skies of the underworld (8D63-0000-0033-2649)
Mario is borderline at the doors of death. If he falls, then there's no hope for him to ever see the light of his native world again.
Help him escaping a terrible fate, and don't let you fooled by illusions! Style: SMB3 ghost house. Difficulty: medium. I actually created it mostly for the sake of a spooky level

Alright I made a new level. I'm more proud of this one than the Mario's Action one.

Dr. Mario's Crazy Day (4166-0000-0033-80CC) :4drmario:



One day while walking to his job at the hospital, Dr. Mario notices a ton of Monty Moles running for their lives. It turns out that the hospital has been taken over by Bowser, and it's up to Dr. Mario to save the day.

This level is not too easy and not too hard (unlike my last level which was intentionally hard). If you don't feel like beating the level normally you can hop over the hospital by jumping on the clouds at the beginning, though I encourage you to try out the entire level since I put a lot of effort into it.

Wanted to do something Pikmin-themed for my first level.

Re-unite with the SS Drake before sundown. Red Koopas are used as Pikmin, you can use their shells to gain access to new areas. Exploration is key, and will be rewarded.

I just uploaded my first level to mario maker! It took me 2 days to make and test. Anyone want to try it and give feedback? It's fairly hard though so be warned. It does have two secret exists though. Here's the code:

What is sad is I haven't created any levels yet. I am having too much fun just trying to unlock the costumes by playing 100 Mario Challenge. Some of these levels in this topic look pretty good. I will have to load them up when I get a chance.

It's got 3 fights against Bowser and 2 fights against Bowser Jr

I've been working on my next castle course, and it involves avoiding the Grinders (the main hazard for the course). However, I did reach the limit with the blocks while designing the sub-area of the course, so I had to erase some of the block details. I still have to design the main area itself, so I'm only about halfway done after I do some additional tweaking for the sub-area.

Anyway, much like with my first castle, the second castle will be composed of two halves, with Bowser Jr. being the first half's boss, while Bowser is the second half boss. However, they'll both be given wings, just to make things different from the first castle bout; Bowser Jr. will throw hammers, while Bowser will levitate a bit whenever he jumps.

Edit: My second castle course is now available to play.

I ran into this problem too. It sucks for perfectionists who want to create levels the actual way Miyamoto does. The best solution I found is to use the scenery piece to cover those areas.
