It saddens me to see people so deflated after the direct. To be honest it wasn't very powerful, I like Square getting along with Nintendo but I am sad my favorite Ff didn't make it (FFVIII). Isabelle took me by surprise as her own fighter instead of an echo but I am happy she got in and that AC fans finally got out of the troll loop they were put in with the Wii U's amiibo festival.

I fully agree that Isaac is better suited for a full Smash direct specially considering there might be extra things to announce when he is in like an echo, a GS AT or stage so let's not lose hope!

I wonder why they skipped 8? It can’t have been a lot of trouble.

I’ll take 8 any day over the **** that is FFXII and XVPocket.

I think Sakurai saw the demand for Isaac and was 50/50 on him. With the famous "tweet" of his and the updated copyright shows that maybe, jjjjjjuuuuust maybe, Isaac is being worked on now for DLC same way Mewtwo was.

So what does this mean?

Well I'm kinda disappointed that we only had one newcomer, but I'm not mad.
I like Isabelle, Animal Crossing is one of my series. I just really wanted Isaac...

There's a lot games I'm looking forward to though.
- Daemon x Machina looks great
- Super Mario Party has been on my list (It also has online play)
- Super Mario Tennis is a game I need to try out (Also updates for the game interested me)
- Splatoon 2 has a new update coming soon
- Animal Crossing (I've been waiting for this for awhile)
- Yoshi Crafted World looks cute

No Isaac but Smash was barely a mention in this Direct so it's not a deconfirmation yet. I'm sure we'll get way more info in the next two months.

Seeing as Jon from Gamexplain made a random prediction Kirby Epic Yarn (which was true) and Golden Sun for 3DS would be announced I was pretty nervous as i want any GS release to be on Switch.

I'm happy for Isabelle fans, she was always a shoe in but definitely shocked she's not an echo. Her trailer was not the best but she deserves the spot.

I don't get this logic. Who says it still couldn't show up on his page after his confirmation, just with Isaac included in the screenshot? Who says that specific pic has to even show up on Isaac's page at all? Sure, it's fitting to include on his page but it could've just been put together to hint beforehand.

People are jumping the gun on worst-case scenarios. There will still be more opportunities for reveals. Can't we be at ease knowing that this is the third time Isaac wasn't shown as an AT?

Relax and get a cup of water or something. Trust me, I understand the disappointment as I am also feeling pessimistic right now but Isaac still has a good shot to be in. Vergeben has proven himself correct and reliable but he doesn’t know everything since he missed King K Rool, Daisy, Chrom, Richter and Dark Samus! There is still hope, you just need to allow the current disappointment you’re feeling to subside.

Alright, let’s say you’re right. Fine. It was simply an homage. An homage that stirred both the fan base and those outside the fan base to the point of believing he’s in the game. Great! Isaac’s popularity has exploded. This means if he’s not in the base game then along with his presence during the Ballot and current franchise intrigue DLC is his next best shot.

So what is the logic behind Isaac being DLC or not in the game, all of a sudden. Isabelle's reveal changes literally nothing. In hindsight, she was the most obvious character for the Direct since they used her intro to cross promote Animal Crossing for 2019.

We have three months and more characters, no doubt, before Ultimate releases. Honestly, I understand some people are upset that Isaac isn't in, but being pessimistic at a time like this isn't going to help anyone. We've got to stay positive and keep up the good work we've already been doing for Isaac these past few years.

Sometimes I feel like the only Nintendo fan that doesn't like Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley or any game without a challenge.

Eh, I suppose it's better to add a character with wider appeal in a general direct anyway. Plus, she looks semi-cloned like Falco and she doesn't hurt Isaac's changes at all, so I am whatever.

Still, no Bayo 3, no Metroid Prime 4, no FE: Three Houses, and certainly no awesome pie-in-the-sky surprises like Advance Wars. That was a lot of hype for not a lot of payoff. Wake me for the next Smash Direct.

You know, I just thought of something. I don't know if anyone watched that recent predictions video by gameXplain, but a member of theirs, Jon, was accurate...scarily accurate. Accurate enough to make you wonder if he maybe had some info or that he knew more than he let on. He basically "predicted:"

-FFVII, FFIX, FFX, FFXII coming to Switch, and he also skipped out on FFVIII (which is hilarious to me BTW)
-Kirby Epic Yarn going to the 3DS (I think that was Jon)
-Isabelle being in Smash, and being unique

Know what else Jon brought up in that discussion? Isaac being in Smash and a Golden Sun remaster for the 3DS. And no one else really brought up Golden Sun before he did.

Granted, maybe I'm just getting tinhoil hat now over how much he predicted, or his comments on GS actually WERE just prediction of his and nothing else, but still...

Oh wait, I went back and watched it and I guess someone else was the one to bring up the idea of Isaac in Smash. Whoops. Jon still brought up a Golden SUn remaster though.

You're right it's too early to give up but once all the characters are in and we couldn't even get an AT there's literally no reason to hope anymore. Nothing means nothing in Ultimate period.

At most we will have 2 more directs, one for online and one for spirits, one in October and another on November.

They could very easily run a second fighter ballot you know? And if that's the case we could very easily jut rock the votes to hell and back. Campaign even harder then back on Smash 4's ballot. Raise some noise. Get some eyes on the character. Let's be for real here. Not many huge smash youtuber's are giving the character or his fans any attention. Creating the perception that he's a niche choice. When in all actuality, getting into the Nitty gritty, he's not.

I don't see how Isabelle really changes anything. I think this topic had gotten too high on things that are not silver bullets (like the trademark) and thought Isaac absolutely guaranteed and that it had to be today. Come on, you all. Isaac has never been guaranteed. He has always been in a precarious situation. Even if he did well on the ballot, Sakurai has never said that this game is about pleasing ballot fans in its entirety. People ran off with the inclusion of Ridley and K Rool, thinking that the whole roster would be to please fans, but Sakurai has never said that!

My hope that Isaac could be in hasn't been changed by this inclusion aside from the fact that Isabelle is taking up a precious slot. It could have been any other number of characters. It being Isabelle makes no difference.

I honestly think we can expect 1 - 2 more smash directs. We still know nothing about spirits which would take up a good chunk of time. They have yet to explain stuff like all star, break the targets, etc. we still have more to learn about online.

Don’t be so fatalistic, with 1-2 smash directs, a November Nintendo direct, and a possible website reveal like Robin, there’s still plenty of room.

Strap in everyone. We currently have 68 unique fighters and (imo) they will probably stop at 70 characters for the base roster. They might add 6 more echoes to make the game have exactly 80 characters if you include echoes. I honestly will be surprised if we get newcomers in October. They will probably save a smash direct for November and add the last two unique newcomers there.

What does this mean for Isaac?

Isaac will most likely be post launch DLC. I'm still very confident that Isaac will be in this game, but looking at his competition he might not make the base roster. There was someone on smashboards that said Issac would be post launch DLC. I didn't want to believe him but i'm starting to.

Eh, I'm not going to give on Isaac yet, but I will say I'm markedly more nervous than before the direct.

Post direct I feel more and more that Dixie as a semi-clone is a lock at this point. I could be wrong, but that is my feeling right now (and I'm actually pumped about that on its own). But that combined with Isabelle being in as a non-echo just makes the competition for the remaining slots very stiff. I'm still holding out hope that Isaac makes it, but with Verge talking about Microsoft content (possible Banjo), Ken (if Isabelle isn't an echo, and Verge hasn't known about any non-echo characters, he may not be a full echo either), and the as yet unnamed Pokemon rep, I'm becoming more and more nervous.

Also have to consider that Bandana Dee, Elma, Geno, and Skull Kid also represent fierce competition. I'm not saying hope is lost, but I'll be waiting with bated breath at this point. Hopefully it all works out for our boy!

As a side note though, I'm very happy about Dixie's and Banjo's chances right now. For that matter I could even see Impa happening as a semi-clone. Another addition I'd be pumped about.

How? The rathalos pic can still be a tease for Isaac. If this was a smash direct and we still didn’t see Isaac, then I’d agree. But it’s not, it’s a Nintendo Direct. Isabelle was probably just there to show off the new animal crossing, so they picked this as the time to show her off.
