Welp, I figured if Isaac wasn't the reveal, that it'd end up being Geno or Skull Kid or Bandana Dee. Some of the more obvious ballot picks, but seems like we'll all be waiting for the next Smash direct. At least this raises Felix's chances of being an echo a bit more, a Smash centered direct has more time for extra content like that.

So what did you get excited for? For me:

* Daemon x Machina (the Mecha design is sexy and there is input from the Macross director I believe)
* Xenoblade DLC makes me want to play it, curse my large Backlog
* Luigi's Mansion 3
* Town (Its cool when a developer gets to escape a typical series they're forced to do)
* The World Ends With You Remaster
* Pokemon... it looks so easy, but its art style tugs on me

I love Kirby too but I'm not sold on it. Also the Isabelle trailer, another issue I have is that it felt like Duck Hunt's trailer, just a notable lack of CG unlike the previous 3. Though I acknowledge she isn't a heavy weight like the Belmonts, Ridley, or K Rool.

Also thats a Smash edition Switch or did I read that wrong?

Isaac's trailer wasn't swapped out with Isabelle's. Her reveal ended with an Animal Crossing Switch teaser, and that obviously wouldn't fit in a Smash-specific direct. She was planned to be revealed here in their last general direct of the year from the start.

I loved the Direct until the end. There was a lot of great stuff in it (though I understand people would definitely be peeved about the online portion), it was just the trailer that was boring. Then they promptly announced Animal Crossing Switch finally, another really great reveal.

Yeah, there were some really good announcements, but a lot of stuff just didn't have enough weight to them, or at least i saw it like that. The amount of ports and remakes didn't help it either (even tho that katamari remake looks dope.)

I'm very happy for Isabelle (she is in my top 5) but not surprised at all that she is in. She has been everywhere lately. Is it odd that I'd rather her be fully unique or fully echo (to not "take up a slot")? I was expecting her as an echo, so semi-clone has definitely thrown me for a loop.

However, I'm definitely disappointed it wasn't Isaac. I had reeeeeally hoped the wait would be over. But alas - just gotta keep the faith and supporting the golden boy!

I'm looking at the positives here.
1- Isabelle's inclusion further cerements that Assist trophies can make for interesting new characters.

2- It also show's they're probably listening almost exclusively to Ballot because it's a safe bet she ranked highly, just based on that Mii Fighter Costume in Smash 4

3- Isaac is still in the running, Nothing has expressly de-confirmed him and we still have 3 months too go.

4- Gamexplain probably has to know some stuff. They called that Kirby's epic yarn would be on 3DS for whatever reason, and they called that all the PS1 final fantasy games would be on switch. In that same video they called for Isaac in smash. So they are probably privy to some information.

5- Isabelle is a character the -average- nintendo fan is familiar with. Isaac really isn't. So she fits for a general direct. A smash focused direct could easily serve as Isaac's debut stage. How many -casual- nintendo fans are super familiar with King K rool? Outside of the 90's kids and smash speculators. Not that many. So he made sense for a smash direct. The same sort of thing applies for Isaac.

Hey y’all, just popping in to say I’m still putting money on Isaac and Geno yet I did not expect either one to be revealed today, so I’m not really surprised. You have to remember that this is a NINTENDO Direct, not a SMASH Direct. I didn’t think they would reveal a super hyped character and Isabelle is a nice, middle of the road reveal that tied in with the Animal Crossing reveal, and many people were hoping for that game to be announced. What I’m saying is, I get Nintendo’s logic behind it and I still think your time is coming.

Final Fantasy 9 is the last classic in my eyes so it's a wonderful inclusion with the other FF being cool too.

It makes sense that her trailer is casual and slow-paced. That's literally what AC is all about, and it allowed for her cute personality to shine through her dialgoue. "They want me for Smash?!".

I’m not surprised Isabelle is in but I am surprised she’s a unique fighter. I’m an Animal Crossing fan so once I got over the disappointment of no Isaac I’ll be happy but I am officially concerned now...

The way they made her trailer plus the announcement at the end felt completely different from everyone else to the point where it reminded me of Smash 4 and how many of the newcomers were promotional additions. I hope I’m wrong but with this we now know for sure Vergeben can be trusted which means a new Pokémon and a Square Enix character (most likely Geno). Sadly none of those additions go against the possibility of no new stages as Geno is a Mario character and technically wouldn’t need a stage.

I don’t know, maybe it’s the current disappointment that is making me pessimistic right now. I just don’t want another Smash 4 situation.

Don't let your salt spin things. Sakurai didn't appear because it wasn't a Smash Direct. He didn't appear in Rosalina, Little Mac, or Shulk's reveals for the same reason. Don't be petty.

Luigi’s Mansion 3. I’m actually really hyped for this. It blindsided me.

Final Fantasy X. Aside from Golden Sun it’s one of the first tradition JRPGs I’ve ever played, but since I didn’t own a PlayStation I rarely got to play it. So yeah. I’ll finally get my chance to finish the game... gonna go ahead and avoid X2 like the plague tho...

Town. I kinda like the concept, we’ll see how I plays out.

Aaaaaaand that’s about it lol. But it is nice to know I have some things to look forward to. Especially FFX I’m actually stoked for that one.

Isabelle is so cute! Happy she’s in! But uhhh, that trailer really was a sleeper. She looks like she didn’t take much dev time because most of her animations seem to be reskinned/based off of previously existing ones. So she isn’t an echo but she’s definitely a Luigified Villager.

I think it’s funny how we have Isabelle, the biggest pacifist ever in a game with Cloud, Bayonetta, Ganondorf, and Ridley, a dragon who butchers people. Villager at least hits his neighbors in the head with a shovel until they move out of town, but Isabelle is beyond harmless. Happy she’s in though, sorry to everyone who wasn’t happy. Don’t believe this hurts Isaac’s chances because it doesn’t. We’re still in the same boat as we were before. They wouldn’t put a ballot winner in a general direct. If the next smash direct comes and goes and he isn’t there, then I would raise some alarms, but until then we wait knowing that this game is already fricking awesome.

I agree with you on the GameXplain point, but mainly I've noticed it's John who tends to make these crazy predictions, only for them to come true. He predicted Kirby, the Final Fantasy ports AND that Isabelle would be a non-echo Reveal. It's a lot of correct guesses that makes me wonder if he has insider info and just doesn't say it.

After thinking more about it, it wouldn't make much sense to reveal Isaac now in this kind of direct. He would HAVE to be revealed in a smash focused direct because a character like Isaac, whom isn't too mainstream anyway, would need some time dedicated to him and his potential moveset. So there would need to be WAY more time than what Isabelle got for his reveal; it makes a lot of sense to me. I just implore you all to please do not give up!

I think they wanted to keep the smash influence minimal with this direct because we already got E3 direct that focused heavily on smash and the august one that was dedicated to it.

Add the new animal crossing to advertise to that and she makes a lot of sens

It saddens me to see people so deflated after the direct. To be honest it wasn't very powerful, I like Square getting along with Nintendo but I am sad my favorite Ff didn't make it (FFVIII). Isabelle took me by surprise as her own fighter instead of an echo but I am happy she got in and that AC fans finally got out of the troll loop they were put in with the Wii U's amiibo festival.

I fully agree that Isaac is better suited for a full Smash direct specially considering there might be extra things to announce when he is in like an echo, a GS AT or stage so let's not lose hope!

Sometimes I feel like the only Nintendo fan that doesn't like Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley or any game without a challenge.

Eh, I suppose it's better to add a character with wider appeal in a general direct anyway. Plus, she looks semi-cloned like Falco and she doesn't hurt Isaac's changes at all, so I am whatever.

Still, no Bayo 3, no Metroid Prime 4, no FE: Three Houses, and certainly no awesome pie-in-the-sky surprises like Advance Wars. That was a lot of hype for not a lot of payoff. Wake me for the next Smash Direct.

Can we please stop saying there was no reason to drop a hype character in a general direct? There's never a reason to not drop a hype character. I mean exciting reveals are allowed to happen in general directs just as easily as in a Smash direct. Besides, there's no reason to not take every opportunity to make consumers excited about a product. Also I guess the big surprise wasn't Isabelle it was AC for Switch which people have been begging for. That's the only reason I can think of for such a bad trailer and so little else resembling a Smash reveal.

You know, I just thought of something. I don't know if anyone watched that recent predictions video by gameXplain, but a member of theirs, Jon, was accurate...scarily accurate. Accurate enough to make you wonder if he maybe had some info or that he knew more than he let on. He basically "predicted:"

-FFVII, FFIX, FFX, FFXII coming to Switch, and he also skipped out on FFVIII (which is hilarious to me BTW)
-Kirby Epic Yarn going to the 3DS (I think that was Jon)
-Isabelle being in Smash, and being unique

Know what else Jon brought up in that discussion? Isaac being in Smash and a Golden Sun remaster for the 3DS. And no one else really brought up Golden Sun before he did.

Granted, maybe I'm just getting tinhoil hat now over how much he predicted, or his comments on GS actually WERE just prediction of his and nothing else, but still...

Nah, dude, if the ballot wasn't enough a few conspiracies about a picture certainly aren't enough. If Isaac isn't on base we better hope that copyright renewal is for GS4 otherwise we will never see Isaac in Smash.
